Smile, You’re Glowing with Philosophy Lit From Within Cream Blush

September 15th, 2009 by Karen 93 Comments

philosophy supernatural lit from within review 0

Yes, my Fangtasia Barrinos, even though I lurves me a super bright blush (hello, NARS Mounia), there are times when I need prefer a more natural cheek look.

philosophy supernatural lit from within review 1

That’s why I’m fawning over Philosophy Lit From Within cream blush in Bare Your Soul ($23).

With just the faintest touch of shimmer, it’s like a smile on my cheeks. 🙂

Not only does it apply and blend like a dream (I use my fingers), it stays put for hours, too, on either bare skin or atop foundation.

philosophy supernatural lit from within review 2

And the color? Perfect! Like pinched cheeks, and probably one of the most natural-looking blush colors I’ve seen in a really long time.

Bare Your Soul joins two other creatively named shades in the Lit From Within line of cream blushes — Feel Warm All Over (a shimmery coral) and Look on the Bright Side (a sheer pink).

They’re part of Philosophy’s new Supernatural line of natural makeup in sheer colors for face, cheeks, eyes and lips. All are free of parabens, phthalates (plasticizers used in everything from children’s toys to eyeshadows and nail polish), mineral oil, talc, sulfates, propylene glycol and fragrance.

I’ll use it for low-maintenance looks or whenever I don’t want my cheeks to compete with any bright pops o’ color on my lips or eyes. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Home sweet home

condo-entry-way

It looks like Tabs will be moving soon. 🙂 Yup, we picked up keys to the condo a little while ago and will be moving toward the end of this month.

We met one of his new neighbors, a Siamese kitteh, and noted all of the broken stuff that needs to be fixed.

Although there’s still plenty of work to do, it feels like the hardest part is finally over.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. New York Fashion Week is still in full swing! Did ya catch the graphic black and white eye NARS did for the Marc Jacobs show?

I guess now I know what to do with that pan of white eyeshadow. 🙂

    Congrats on the condo, Karen!

I was wondering if you could tell me the pros and cons of liquid eyeliner vs. pencil liners? When should you use each?

      Hi Pinksoysauce,

Both are great — it just depends on what you want and how steady your hand is.

I like liquid for very crisp lines and long-wearing color. I find most liquid liners very challening, but Lorac has a new pen that’s super easy to use called Front of the Line Pro. If you’ve ever had trubs with cat eye looks this is the answer!

Pencils are good for lining the waterline, layering beneath shadows and for smudgier looks (like smokey eyes). A few I like: Cargo Plant Love, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencils and the MAC Technakohls. Hope this helps… hit me up if you have any more questions!

    Hi Rae,

Thanks! I keep hoping that all the crap I’ve piled into this little apartment over the last eight years might magically teleport to the new place… maybe I’ve been watching too much Sci-Fi (aka SyFy).

Anyhoo, you won’t be disappointed by this blush, as it’s fab. I think the other two colors are gonna find a home in my makeup kit very soon. 🙂

    How’s your Tuesday going otherwise?

You know what the Marc Jacobs eye makeup reminds me of? What Lady Gaga wore to the VMAs, she had a similar (if not more intense) version. And she was at the show, so maybe it was done purposefully?

But back to the blush. This one is a little on the pricey side, but you get a decent amount. The pan fills up my palm, which is a decent size. Plus, you could easily wear it every day since the color is so natural. 🙂

9 times total with moving?!? You’re a pro then! LOL You don’t need any tips from me then, I’ve only done it four. My friendly advice, remember to just breathe, and don’t get too caught up in the overwhelmingness of it. One step at a time, and we certainly won’t judge you if you still have boxes to unpack a year from now! 🙂 Maybe you can enlist the help of your local friends and family to help with the move (more bodies, the fast the haul), or maybe make some meals for you the first few days…

I see many happy romps up and down those stairs for Tabs! Congratulations. I’m a frequent mover and my advice is to number your boxes, label them by room, and keep a list of contents. This way you can park them in the right place and open the important stuff first. The less important stuff can wait out of the way.

Congratulations on getting the house! I’m sure you did a few happy dances.

I’m sure Tabs will adjust to his new quarters. If he’s anything like Zena though, you might want to prepare for a Hunger Strike. Zena went on a Hunger Strike for the first three weeks she lived with us. She ate food all right….but only if it was in your hand. It was so frustrating!! I about died trying to a combo that worked.

My seven month mission to trim the excess weight off Zena is finally complete! She went from 38 pounds to a svelte 31 pounds. :mad scientist cackling: Success at last!!! She is much happier thinner.

Now, keeping that weight off is the real challenge.

      Hi Kate & Zena,

Thanks! I went to Home Depot last night and finally picked out some paint. I’m gonna go with a very subtle neutral for the walls. While I love color, I figure I can inject it via textiles and accessories. I’ve been watching a LOT of HGTV, and even though I’m still pretty clueless I have a better idea of what I want. My ultimate plan is for the colors to mimic the colors of the beach — not necessarily a beach-theme, but natural beachy colors like tan, green, blue and grays. I saw this picture of a beach on Kelly (Vampy Varnish’s) site and just knew that this color palette was IT. Also, I think my style is West Elm with a little touch of Pottery Barn. LOL, sorry for rambling on so… I know you are into design stuff!

Hope you and Zena are having a good Wednesday. Give her a pet for me. Tabs sends you a kitty hug…

Karen, we moved about 25 miles NE from our old home to our new home. We moved so that we could be closer to my daughter’s school, but we’re homeschooling her now. The house we’re in now is larger, which is good since hubby works from home when he’s not travelling and it gives everyone a space of their own. My husband was great about packing up our stuff, because I hate going through things and trying to decide what to keep and what to get rid of!

    Good luck with the move!

      Hi Stef,

I feel very relieved. Now I just gotta find a way to get everything done before the first of next month. If only there was such a thing as magical moving elves!

I love your photo Karen, it’s a good example of how this blush is glowing. I think it’s also very natural and can be used in a natural day makeup. I hope you get to post more photos of you new home.

I like the blush on you!

Congratulations on the new move. I’m glad Tabs was able to meet his new neighbors. I foresee some playdates for Tabs in the near future. Maybe they’ll be featured on the blog? lol

    Karen,

I saw that picture too and thought of you. Doing neutral walls (whether they be blues, khakis or what not) definitely allow you to play with trends or bright pops of color like coral.

When I get some time (like after I finish my essay), I’ll do a blog post on my OnSugar blog for you for some products inspired from the photo. I was thinking about doing that and completely forgot in the Land of Schooldom. 🙂

Zena sends a big roll over (her new trick) for you and a curious head tilt and sniff for Tabs.

      Hi Amanda,

Good to hear from you! 🙂

I really hope that he doesn’t get too depressed about being inside. He’s always been a wanderer, so it’ll be a big change for him.

      How have you been?

WAH! Super congrats on the condo Karen! I wish you all the best of luck as you settle in and get everything fixed up. You deserve all these blessings coming your way.

Marc Jacobs always has some swinging makeup for Fashion Week. I would love to see a post where you rock some of the more interesting eye looks we’ve been seeing on the runway!

      Hi Stephie,

🙂 Awww, a big hug from both me and Tabs back to ya!

I think I’m gonna try my hand at this one… I have a feeling it’s gonna be disastrous, but hey, at least it washes off.

How’s your week going? Did you make it to Statistics today?

BTW, I saw some new Coach bags for fall and thought of you!

Congrats Karen on the new place.Hope you are all very happy there 🙂 My advice is to have a big sort out. My son chucked loads of stuff out when we moved here.Obviously pack the stuff you dont use so often first. And if you can get some boxes to the new place before moving day. Its less to stress out about. I moved in june, and i still have boxes left to unpack lol. Good luck 🙂
