The Chanel Jade Collection: A Softer Alternative to Fall’s Dark Nail Polishes

September 20th, 2009 by Karen 41 Comments

chanel jade

What’s up, Jade-a-kisses?

Ever since I saw pictures of the Chanel runway models rocking jade green nails earlier this year, I’ve been dying, DYING to get my hands on the Chanel Jade Collection polishes.

This month the two limited edition shades, Jade and Jade Rose ($25 each), finally hit Chanel Makeup Studio and boutiques shelves. I ordered mine online last week from Chanel.com, and both pastel cuties finally arrived on my doorstep last Friday.

Chanel Jade background

Beauty junkies first got a glimpse of the colors in Paris last March during the Chanel Ready-to-Wear Fall 2009-2010 show, when Monsieur Karl sent a collection of black clothes punctuated with pale pink and jade green accents down the runway.

Peter Philips, the Global Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, also worked his beauty mojo to transform these gem-inspired colors into Jade Collection polishes.

A softer alternative

The colors break away from the dark blues, grays and greens that have dominated fingertips and toes this fall.

If harder-edged shades aren’t really your thang, consider the Jade Collection’s pastel colors for a softer, girlier look.

Jade, a refreshing minty green with subtle shimmer, looks exactly like my favorite jadite bowl (the one I always grab when I’m in the mood for ice cream).

Her sister, Jade Rose, a pearlescent, rosy pink, reminds me of the pink jade jewelry my mom (a gem and jewelry hound) loves.

Pastel polishes, especially greens, can be a little tricky. If handled incorrectly, they can quickly venture into cheesy Claire’s/Hot Topic territory. I think both the Jade and Jade Rose shades are sophisticated, though, and not at all teenagery. The colors look elegant and modern, especially on short nails.

A single coat yields sheer color. For an opaque finish without any streaks, like in the swatches above, I’d recommend three coats. Though the formula’s a little on the thick side, it’s not so thick that it’s difficult to work with.

Chanel luxury within reach

There’s no denying the Chanel Jade Collection colors cost quite a bit for polish, but I think they’re a nice way for the everyday gal to have a relatively affordable Chanel fashionista moment without having to spend major moolah.

Even though I might not have the funds for the latest Chanel clothes or accessories, these bottles are a luxury that are still within my reach. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

They’re both gorgeous! I’ve never before seen a green polish that I wanted to wear (and thought I could actually pull off).

Which one did you decide to wear after taking the pictures?

i absoultely love the green jade nailpolish! i think i’m in such deep obsession with it i’ll paint my room that color. I’m turning 15 this comming december (yay!) and i’d love to be rocking this color the day of. Unfortunately, this liquid awesomeness is a bit out of my price range, unless its a birthday suprise from mommy and daddy theres no way i’m getting my hands on it.

Is there a cheaper alternative that packs just as much pow?

These colors are gorgeous. I am tempted b/c of how much I love chanel as a brand, but I’ll pass. Opi by sephora has a great alternative called ocean love potion. I’ve been wearing it all summer.

OH GOSH! They are gorgeous! I am very very VERY tempted. But it’ll burn a hole in my wallet! 🙁

Jade Rose is so pretty–I lurve nude polishes. But then Jade is such a unique color! What to do…what to do…

I love the colours, especialy the jade rose, im in love woth the natural, peachy- colours, but lots of them tends to turn into pink on me. I just wonder, is is similar to MAC’s Seasonal Peach colour form the Sugarsweet collection? There was also a minty green color, peppermint patty.
I love the seasonal peaches colour in the bottle, but on my hand, it looks more of a pink, and it’s had to work woth – I ave to use 4-5 coats to be how I want it. Is it the same with the chanel colors?

I agree with the previous posters: those are gorgeous colors 🙂

I also agree with Maggie and Kaelin . . . can you think of any dupes for these? I want so much from the UD Holiday collection that I can’t think of spending this much on two nail polishes . . .

Hi Karen! Love that green polish…don’t know, but me-thinks that I may splurge for that color. IT’S SO PRITY! 🙂 Not much today, gray day out, but enjoying the last day of the weekend before getting back into the classroom on Monday. I’ve got a question tho: have you ever tried any of those electronic exfoliating systems, such as the Clarisonic? So much positive hype, I’m thinking about one…I went back into your archives, and didn’t really find much. Temptalia.com swears by it. What do you think, or have you tried any of the drugstore versions?

I like both of those colors, but if I had to choose, I pick the Jade Rose. I like the Jade, but I think I would get tired of it pretty quickly. Now, if the place where I get my nails done had the Jade, I would be all over it!

The green shade is beautiful, is soft and I like it. I dunno what’s wrong with me, recently I’ve been using so much green, on my eyes makeup on my nails and I use to hate this color although my eyes are green.

The green is so beautiful! I want it! I can’t seem to find it on the Chanel website. Maybe it is sold out already? Does any Canadian ladies know of any e-retailers that would ship to Canada? The prices on ebay are ridiculous!

I love Jade! I only splurge on Chanel polishes when they seem really unique, and I think this one fits the bill! I didn’t think Pink Jade looked as unique, so I took a pass on it. It’s pretty, but a little TOO understated for me! 😛 As far as pinks go, I was ogling Chanel’s Ming polish released with the new Lip Lacquers!

I’ve been wondering about that green ever since I heard about it. I love the shade, it is truly beautiful, just it’s so…green, you know? I might be a coward but I just don’t know how to fit bright green nail polish in everyday life. Red yes, dark yes, shimmery green, I don’t think so.

I love Jade but the price is so steep. I’m wearing Essie’s Greenport at the moment. Makes me feel a little better about the rain. Zena is positively avoiding the outdoors due to the weather. She’s being stubborn.

Huh, I was thinking I’d dig the green, but I’m not really lovin’ it. The pink, however, might actually be worth the $25… which is weird for me because I’m not a very pink girl, if you know what I mean 😉

Jade is drop dead gorgeous but even if I could bring myself to spend $25 on one tiny bottle of polish, I doubt I’d wear this color in the fall. I’d save it until spring, by which time I’m hoping a few dupes will pop up. It kind of looks like Go on Green from OPI’s Brights by OPI line (but I think that one may be be less shimmery). Either way, they are both great colors. 🙂

I used to collect Chanel nail polishes, but I quit. hahaha…It was $18 back then. I’m still debating of getting the jade green or Illamasqua minty green, they both looking similar.

I am not sure if I will be able to splurge in these polishes, but I do know that they are really well done. These are not your ordinary pastel colours (most of which are not very flattering on my olive-undertoned skin). These are beautiful complex colours… and if they were a bit cheaper I would already have bought them.

Of course, if someone knows of a good dupe for any of the two colours, go ahead and tell us!

      Hi Knit_tgz,

I’ve been asking around for a Jade dupe; the closest recommendation is MAC’s Peppermint Patti, which was released with the Sugarsweet collection earlier this year. Unfortch it was limited edition. I’ll keep looking and let you know if I find anything.

I tried a local brand (Andreia) mint green, but it’s way too light and pastel 🙁 I am thinking about buying their darker green and trying to mix it myself, though I am still gathering courage (and looking for empty nail polish bottles!).

Anyway: I also like the Jade Rose very much. Does anyone know of a (cheaper) dupe of that one, at least?
