Chanel Noirs Obscurs Collection: Swatches and a Quick Look

October 3rd, 2009 by Karen 23 Comments

chanel noirs obscurs collection

Back in high school, one of my BFFs was a total goth girl. Dressed in black from head to toe, she would have squealed with delight over next month’s Noirs Obscurs collection from Chanel.

I bet the nine-piece release of dark shades for eyes, lips and nails is something The Cure (circa 1990) would have liked, too, LOL!

Here’s a quick look at some of release. Let me know what you think!

Operation Crabby Tabby

Tabs doesn’t know it yet (or perhaps he does), but his minutes here in Mill Valley are numbered. We’re just a couple of hours away from whisking him away to spend his first night in the new place.

But he loathes being in the car… so much so that he usually loses control of his bodily functions on the road. Poor guy is going to be crying his heart out on the 30-minute drive.

Today marks a new chapter in Tabs’ life, titled “The Adventures of an Indoor Kitty.” Now, I just have to figure out how to come to grips with this cat mom guilt I’m feeling for stealing his freedom.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hey Karen,

The chanel lover in me thanks you for this post. I want the Maniac lippie and the mascara. I am a little underwhelmed by the shadows, but that’s ok b/c I have enough shadows. I might cave and get hysteria, too but we’ll see.

Poor Tabs, he’ll survive, though. You’re doing what’s best for him. He’ll adjust :).

Poor Tabs! Our greatly missed cat Mittens also had the same fear of car rides. To make it easier, have you tried…
    1) Comfort Zone Spray with Feliway? Its a product to help keep cats calm during vet visits, car rides, new home ect. Comes from PetSmart in diffuser and spray form.
    2) Talk to your vet! They have gentle medicines to make the trip less fearful.

I’m also liking the nail trends for this fall. Oh yes!

I own two of those lipsticks and I love love love them! I also think that the colours are more complex than those of MAC Style Black products (which is why I skipped the latter).

I think I am liking Diabolic nailpolish because I am in the mood for dark vampy nails right now. In general I really like Chanel quads, but I am not so sure about the Noirs Obsurs quad the colours individually look beautiful, but the quad colours together look a bit muddy and I am not sure they would work well together. There is just not enough contrast.

I am sure Tabs would be a happy indoor kitty in no time, I think it might be safer for kitties to live indoors anyway. There are so many things to do inside that he will never be bored. Just think about all the boxes, strings and bubble wrap he gets to play with once you moved in! I don’t know too many cats that like car rides, mine gets very traumatized every time she goes to the vet.

Wonder if a new cat DVD would help? Tabs may settle in to some new visuals and associate them with his fresh pad of happiness.
As for the car ride, surround Tabs with pictures of the new Chanel lipsticks, and, drive fast.

Poor tabs! i have a dog that gets car sick, shes miserable, but if she’s gotta go to the vet, shes gotta get in the car.
Im sure once tabs gets used to being indoors he will be ok with being an indoor kitty, its much safer in doors, plus he’ll have you there to spoil him rotten all day!

Poor Tabs! If he gets so stressed that he loses control of bodily functions, you really should take him to the vet and talk about getting some anti-anxiety meds (read: tranquilizer) for the road next time you see them. That’s just far too much stress and anxiety for a kitty to handle. We pay about $15 for Zena’s anti-anxiety pills.

Zena has the lowest dose of ACE (aka doggy anti-anxiety pills) for thunderstorms and it really helps. It’s like night and day. She goes from super super stressed and nervous to relaxed. Definitely something to think about.

Oh, I’m lemming Diabolic. All the nail polishes sound really good. Well, except for Forbidden. Reddish browns just don’t look right on my pale skin. It just looks wrong for some reason.

tabs will be fine. most kittehs adopt to indoor life readily. my friend’s cat, emmy (he’s a tux kitty, looks like he’s dressed for the emmys all the time), used to be a FERAL, i repeat, FERAL cat. after some gentle coaxing and some tuna later, he’s a well-behaved, gentlemanly indoor kitty :). it’s all about consistency, and keeping his interest towards things INDOORS (food, toys, wuvs, petting).

just make sure he knows where the litter box and food is, and buy him loads of toys/a tall cat tower for him to play on! you can also buy some videos that have birds and stuf in them for cats (cha cha goes bonkers for squirrels and birdies)!

if you feel truly guilty and your place has a balcony/back porch or something, you can let him out (supervised), on a harness & long rope thing you can buy for this purpose. this is how we let cha cha on the balcony of our 7th floor condo without him jumping off after squirrels and birds. we let cha cha out (if it’s not rainy or something), for about 15-30 minutes and he seems pretty happy 🙂

I got the palette, I don’t like it much without a black base. I just found them kinda ashy looking without. Makes me sad, but makes me want more bases to see if they’ll look better. Also, the black shadow is actually midnight blue….it’s hard to differentiate among them truly!

I do love Vendetta from this collection. Plus now I’m lemming Obscur. 😉

Chanel heaven first thing on a sunday morning! This collection has been released here for a while and I’ve been lemming diabolic nail polish, I will have to get it before it’s sold out. I’ve been wanting to try the lippies especially hysteria but think it will look too goth with my super pale complexion. Maybe I should get it and wear it during my towns goth weekend over halloween!

Karen, maybe you should take Tabs out for some walks with you because my vet told me that cats don’t like to move. And becaues he used to walk he may feel bad.Write us how he feels himself in the new house. I hope everything will be just great for both of you!

As for the collection, it was so beautiful on the promo photos and when I went out to check it, I didn’t like it 🙁

The quad’s pretty, but it’s a little dark for me. The lipstick, however, I love… not that I’d ever have any place to wear it to, but I could always just wear it around the house, like I do with all my other formal makeup 😀

Aww, poor Tabs. My kitty *hates* it in the car as well – it’s almost impossible to get him into his little cat-cage, because he knows the cat-cage goes in the car. I think if I ever had to drive a half-hour with him, I’d probably go with Kate & Zena’s idea and get him a tranquilizer… I think that’s make it easier on both of us.

Mmmmm, all this Chanel, want or not, is making my toes curl (in a good way)! I looooove looking at this lot, but probably I wouldn’t actually cave on it! I still kinda want the original Vamp lipstick, but sadly, I don’t have that many opportunities to channel my inner goth to such a dramatic degree!

Aww, poor Tabs! If he’s anything like my kittehs, he’ll soon be all wrapped up in exploring a bigger new space and looking out windows! I recommend getting a tub of catnip and storing some toys in it for him! 🙂

I don’t like lipsticks from this collection. :/ And e/s are so-so. Only those in the middle are something I would like to have. The other two on the edge – not so much. 🙂

My three cats became indoor kitties almost a year ago. Two of them could care less–all they want to do is flop around the house anyway–but my tabby guy is constantly trying to sneak out. I’ve tried distracting him with laser pointers, toys, and catnip, but he wants to be free! Tough, Mr. Kitty. I intend to keep you around for a while.

I’m 52, was NEVER goth – love these! I have every piece, except for the Demoniac eye pencil which has been sold out everywhere from the start. Finally found it at Saks online last week. The lipsticks are great muted a bit with the gloss. The shadows are good either dramatic with one shade on the lid, in the crease & below lower lashes or with a light shimmer base all over & a dark from this pallette in the crease & below lower lashes. LOTS of mascara. The polishes wear better than any darks I’ve used. My manicure survived housecleaning, working out & writing on the computer for 6 hours the past 2 days.
New shadow duo out – sorry, I’m hobbled w/sprained ankle & can’t go get it – Celadon wet/dry – looks great with the green from this pallette.
