Live Nude Gloss! Nars Supervixen Lipgloss

July 25th, 2008 by Karen 32 Comments

Anyone else like the phrase “nude lips”? It gets thrown around a lot in beauty circles and refers to shades of lipstick or lipgloss that produce a pale or natural look, which is ironic considering how a truly nude lip would be one not wearing anything at all!

But where’s the fun in that?

I can’t tell you how many times I fell in love with lip products based on how they looked in the tube, only to find them failing miserably on my lips. The wrong pale lip can leave you looking like an undead graveyard extra on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so when I do find nude shades that I feel actually work well for me, it’s my beauty duty to shout it from the rafters! My newest find — Nars Supervixen Lipgloss ($24).

nars-supervixen

A single coat applied directly with the included doe-foot applicator intensifies my natural lip color. If I were starring in a movie, this is how I’d want my lips to look in my closeups, with hair perfectly tousled, of course, and C. Bale feeding me croissants and coffee in bed (assuming he wasn’t being mean to his mum, oh gawd).

nars-supervixen-closeup

Not as sticky as MAC Lipglasses or Chanel Glossimers, Supervixen feels light on the lips and doesn’t have a noticeable flavor or smell. It lasts about three hours on my lips, which is a pretty average wear time for a thin gloss.

Because it looks and feels so natural, I can see myself wearing it a lot when I’m just lounging around the house or running late for work. Oh, and I’m also thinking it’d work well for single gals shooting for natural date makeup looks. 🙂

Speaking of dates, I’m meeting my girl Cindy tonight to watch Sex and the City again. I wonder how it’ll hold up the second time around.

What’s on your agenda tonight? If I weren’t going to the movie, I’d stay home and play with makeup. Ain’t no shame in that game!

What do you think about nude lips? Do you wear them often?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Yay!Nudes!
For my uni lessons I have to choose carefully my lippies, so I’m always on the hunt of the perfect nude! Lately I’ve been more into matte lippies but a nice, thin gloss sounds great! I’ll check this out. It looks so pretty on you! 😀
    Hugs!

I only wear nude lippies, they’re the best! This one looks promising and nonsticky is wonderful! Batman is still on my agenda, not sure what day I’m going. I read somewhere that Christian Bale’s mom was being mean to him and said something bad about his wife. He was stressed out from his movies and the loss of his friend Heath Ledger so he snapped. But it was cruel of his mom to report him to the police though, people suspected since C. Bale’s dad is his manager and they’ve been doing so well, his mom is jealous. Anyways, that’s the gossip on the streets.

    Have fun with SATC!

I love nude lips – especially pinky nudes. I’ve never tried Supervixen, but it looks great on you! I’m a huge NARS fan overall. I just tried Female Trouble from the Fall line and I think I’m going to get it. It’s a light mauve, straddling the line between warm and cool. I love it!

This is a great look. My boyfriend, Robert, thinks my lips are my best feature. He’s always talking about how pretty my mouth is. –Iaats

I love nude lips – dark colors suit me very well. I have not found my favorite tint yet though. Right now I’m just wearing Smith’s Rosebud Salve to nourish and soften!

I thought one of the best scenes in the SATC movie was when Charlotte shoots Big that deadly look out in the street – you know? She was on fire! Do you have a favorite scene?

Pretty! Is this a new color? I haven’t noticed it before. I’m an “equal opportunity” makeup trend-er. I’ll try it all! so yeah, I’ve got some nudes. 🙂 I did a semi-nude today-mac hug me lipstick. Other faves are mac fashion pack and Viva glam V lipgloss, and up-note (LE) and deceptive l/s. Oh, and fresh sugar kiss gloss….I need to pull this one out again!

    Hi Eru,

I’ve been liking mattes and the semi-mattes that seem to be popping up, too.

I think the hunt for the perfect nude is an ongoing thing! You just never know when you’re gonna find “the one.” I hope Supervixen works for ya. 🙂

    Hi Dao,

Nudes lipsticks and glosses are fab! What’s your fave these days?

Yeah, I heard the same things about C. Bale… I would be happy to comfort him in his time of need, I can’t lie.

I’m hoping you make it to the movies tonight, too!

    Hi Karen Too,

Oh I remember that! I think I liked the scene where Carrie did the photo shoot with all the wedding dresses. I also like the montage when she tried on her clothes as she cleaned out her closet.

    Hi Amanda,

Nah, it’s been around for a while, I think!

Hug Me is a good one! Hmm, that might be really pretty underneath Supervixen, now that I think about it…

Oh, I’ve decided that I’m going to have to break down and get your Fresh Supernova Mascara. 🙂

I love NARS makeup and I love their glosses. This color is really gorgeous.

BTW, I’ve seen SATC 3x and I’ve loved it each time. Noticed things I didn’t notice the time before too. Enjoy your girlie date night!

I’m loving that lip gloss. Your blog seriously makes me want to go blow an entire paycheck on makeup! lol! I especially like this color because it’s not too pale. Sometimes I look a little crazy with pale lips. I generally don’t go too crazy with lip colors, I like them subtle for most days.

Tonight I’m running to the grocery store and grabbing stuff for a picnic. My fiance and our friends are heading to the shore tomorrow. I’m excited! 😀

To be honest, I think that $24 is ridiculously overpriced for a lip gloss. However, I do think this looks really beautiful and natural and the fact that it isn’t sticky and does feel light makes it much more attractive. Natural Color + Light + Not Sticky = Date-worthy Lip Gloss, as you said 🙂 I just might have to buy it.

One more thing, would you say that a nude lip is classic? I think that also makes me feel better about the price because it’s not just the newest trend or just a seasonal look (like the super dark colors for fall). Maybe I’m just trying to talk myself into buying it!

I like the nude lip idea a lot lately. I have been using my MAC Tendertone in E-Z Baby and Honey Bare a lot. I like their scent and texture.

I respect the concept of nude lips, and I like them for some looks, but I’m all for colour in makeup! My nude lip gloss is a store brand in a pearly peach shade (I forget the name). It works well for a nude lip, though I use it more to add shimmer to darker lip shades.

yes! love me some nude lips! since i’m of the swarthier persuasion -dark skin pinay (haaaay!!!) it is a challenge to find a neutral i can wear without lipliner – let alone applying without a mirror and being able to leave my house without looking like a corpse!!! this is why i love Nars lip colors – i have a feeling he creates colors for us darker skinned honeys! thanks Karen – cuz you must know when i have $24 in my wallet that I’m just dying to spend! HA!

I MUST FIND THIS GLOSS! I’ll add it to my rotation of Laura Mercier’s Bellini lip glace and Nars lip laquer Hellfire. I had to give the MAC glosses a rest – they get a bit too gloppy after awhile!

    Hi Shefali,

I am falling into the Nars camp, big time. What’s your favorite gloss?

I think I might have to catch SATC one more time. The love and the friendship between the characters is just so amazing. Last night both Cindy and I busted into tears during the scene when Samantha came into Carrie’s darkened room in Mexico and fed her the cafe au lait (at least that’s what I think it was). It was such a small gesture, but one filled with real love.

    Hi Brittany,

🙂 Sometimes I look a little crazy with pale lips, too, especially if there are certain cool tones that wash me out.

Hope you had fun at the shore today. What did you guys bring for the picnic?

    Hi Okyanus,

It’s pricy, but I like to think of it in terms of how much use one can get out of it. I can totally see myself finishing off this tube. 🙂

I think nude lips are totally classic! When I think of season-less style I always go back to one of my icon, Audrey Hepburn. She totally rocked the nudes back in the day!

    Hi Marisol,

Thanks! We had a wonderful time catching up and just chillin’.

I like the Tendertones, too, but I get weird sometimes about putting my finger into the pot. And I’m usually too lazy to bust out a lipbrush, LOL.

It’s really pretty in person. I’m thinking, too, that you can layer it over darker shades to switch them up or add sparkle.

    Hi Lexi,

Girl, then seriously, you can totally pull of this gloss. I get really dark when I’m out in the sun and think this would look great with my “tanned” self.

What other NARS colors do you like? We can probably wear the same shades! *wallet starts to tremble*

yes girl that’s why i buy all the lip/eye colors you reccomend because our skin tone is pretty close (i wear NC42 stsudio fix/concealer. i only have 2 – hellfire lip laquer and the duo gloss – rose birman (a wine color) and on the other end – chihuahua (a neutral rose). I did own a Nars lipstick – Spanish Red (a brown based neutral red.

PS. I bought MAC ‘love connection’ cuz of your last blog entry!

No liner. I usually go with MAC in Siss…which is a SUPER nude grey undertone matte lipstick with the lustreglass on top.

it doesn’t work for everyone, but it’s the combo i’ve managed to pull off for years and i will never abandon it. so long as MAC keeps making these products for me. hahaha.
