Bobbi Brown Chrome Palette: Shimmery, Subtle Colors

Bobbi Brown Chrome Palette Swatches Review closed

Bobbi Brown’s new Chrome Palette for lips and eyes costs a pretty penny at $75 (yikes), but, hey, at least BB & Co stuffed a *lot* into this limited-edition cutie.

Chrome packs a whopping ten eyeshadows in shades of shimmery and matte gray, taupe, mauve, white and black.

Top row: White, Polar Ice, Storm Cloud, Iron, Thunder; Bottom row: Moonlight, Cyber Grey, Foil, Chrome, Charcoal Haze

Also up in the mix: four large pans of lipgloss in neutral colors and two mini brushes. A sleek, minimalist chrome case keeps everything warm and safe at night. 😉

Chrome arrived yesterday so we’re still getting to know each other, but from what I’ve seen so far, the textures and shimmer are fab. The variation in colors, though, are very subtle on my skin, so I’m guessing this palette might look better on lighter beauties.

A few initial thoughts:

Eyeshadows

  • Textures feel smooth, and colors apply with medium pigmentation
  • Several of the shimmery mauve and gray shades look very similar on my skin; the differences are almost *too* subtle
  • Light-to-medium skinned babes who wear cool tones well will probably look smokin’ hawt in these shades
  • Medium-to-dark cuties looking for colors with more obvious variation might want to think twice about this palette

Lipglosses

  • Texture feels non-sticky on the lips
  • Glosses are taste- and scent- free
  • Pigmentation differs depending on the color: Winter Bronze offers pigmentation, and the other three shades apply sheer

Packaging

  • Shiny chrome case picks up fingerprints easily
  • Medium-sized mirror is a nice touch
  • Palette is fairly compact and should fit into a medium-sized makeup bag

You might like this palette if…

  • You have light skin and you wear grays colors and cool tones well
  • You travel often or take your makeup with you on the go
  • You like having all of your eyeshadows/lip products in one place

It’s those shadows are so pretty! But seventy five dollars? Gah! That’s not much less than I make in a week! Still, I might be swayed…

      Hi Rebecca,

Maybe try it out… if you think the colors are ones you could wear every day, then it might be worth it!

You know, I’ve become a bit “addicted” to palettes, but for some reason when lip product is thrown into one, I immediately cross it off my list. I cannot stand it when the eye shadow falls into the lip color. Drives me nuts. Great review, thanks!!

      Hi Houstonblogger,

The good thing about this is the lip products are a good distance away… I feel there’s enough room between them to prevent cross makeup contamination! 🙂

I wish Bobbi would stop making incredible palettes that are unjustifiably expensive. Her Shimmer Body for Body compact had the most amazing fine shimmer in the powder, and it too cost $75. With the holidays approaching, I can’t justify dropping so much cash on one product (although there is a LOT jammed in that palette!).

I do love it, though…so pretty.

    GO TEAM BOBBI.

although i hate her lip glosses. they’re truly horrible.

my favorite things are probably her blushes/eyeshadows (because they’re nice and silky and click into large palettes – i’m a neat freak) and the gel eyeliners 😀

Thunder and Chrome are such nice colors. I think the whole palette has some really gorgeous e/s colors…. and 10 colors is a lot…compared to last year’s 4 e/s and 4 lipglosses…..but the price…whoooppss…

I like the shadows, but I’ve really developed a strong aversion to lippies in pan form! I might shell out $50 for the eyeshadows (hello gorgeouses! 😉 ) but I wouldn’t pay $75 for the shadows +lippies!

karen, for your medium/tan skin tone, i would totally recommend:

nectar matte powder blush (even i can pull this off even though it’s freaking bright in the pan) – a true coral-pink

flame & plum wine shimmer blushes – a shimmery red-brown and medium wine-pink

and lastly, pot rouge for lips and cheeks in raspberry (a raspberryish medium pink) or pink truffle (a reddish pink).

(little devil that looks like ines on left shoulder says:) these all last fantastically and give you a really flattering glow! go ahead… try them…. you could get all the three powder blushes and put them in a three-pan palette…

Inés, I couldn’t help but LOLing at your comment. I can imagine you dressed up as a little devil, making people suddenly want to buy makeup! I like the sound of Nectar 😀
I wish Bobbi would make these palettes in different colours, like gold, or purple, or green variations, oh my! Though I wouldn’t be able to buy them, at least I could see you guys having fun with them!

Karen, this is SPECTACULAR-looking, in my opinion. Of course, I’m fair with cool undertones, so it’s like Bobbi made it for me! I can’t believe I’m going to say this (because of the price) but I’m going to check this out!

Nice palette, but they look like a lot of colors I have already. Plus I don’t like lip palettes. I hate how gucky they can get and I’m lazy to use a lip brush.

Wow, that is really gorgeous! But I hate it when sparkly eyeshadows and lip glosses are placed together in one palette. The sparkle from the shadows always get to the glosses and then you ingest some of that shimmer that may or may not be safe to ingest… =(

      Hi Sheila,

The good thing is they aren’t placed too close together. I think if tilting the pans should avoid any cross shadow pollination!

I love the pallette and the colors would work well (blond hair blue eyes pale skin) -the only thing giving me pause is the price

I think I’m going to be picking this one up, price be damned. I really hate how the lip palettes work but it might be okay if I use a lip brush and use them quick (I can’t tell the difference between the last two but winter bronze is gorgeous). Also, Karen, is iron lacking pigmentation compared to the other colors or is it just the way you swatched it?

the colors in this palette seem to look different in every picture I see of them, sometimes they seem more purple and sometimes more blue. some shades are pretty but it seems like the overall effect it creates is not worth the price tag.

Thanks for this review, I have the palette but haven’t used it yet because I can’t decide if I really like all these colors. I’m going to take it back and look for something else after reading your review.
