Olay In-Shower Body Lotion Is Cutting Out the Middle Man

December 2nd, 2009 by Karen 37 Comments

Thank you, Olay In-Shower Age Defying Body Lotion ($7), for turning me into a well-oiled, lotion-applying machine.

A little beauty backstory

I have alligator skin. Consequently, I spend copious amounts of time applying body lotion. Once, I tried to figure out how much time I’ve spent at it over the course of my life, and it worked out to something like 52 days.

52 DAYS! That’s time I could’ve spent learning how to play the lute or drooling over Ry-Ry. 🙂

ryan-on-table-saying-haaay

Depending on how long I stick with creamy Olay In-Shower Body Lotion (I’m fickle when it comes to lotions), I could save hours over the rest of my life because it basically eliminates the five minutes I’d otherwise spend applying lotion after every shower.

Instead, after washing and rinsing off my regular body wash, I just rub it on (taking in the light apple-floral scent) while the water’s still running. The heat and humidity in the shower activate its moisturizing mojo.

Then, after all of my dry skin areas are sufficiently coated, I rinse and pat down with a towel.

SHAZAM!

Moisturized from head to toe in two minutes flat. 🙂

In-Shower Body Lotion also comes in two versions I haven’t tried, Quench and Ultra Moisture with Shea Butter.

If it were just fast but didn’t moisturize well, I’d say forget it, but my skin just loves this stuff. It delivers heavy duty hydration. Even the ashiest parts of my legs, knees and elbows feel smoother and softer, and they feel that way from the start of my work day until quitting time in the afternoon.

I’m sure I’ll keep reaching for it at the end of long days, like when I’m extra tired and lazy (read: often). Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

It’s about frickin’ time!

PRAISE YE GODS, I’m finally getting my hair did!

My appointment’s for a cut and color. I can’t wait! I’ll be back in a few (wish me luck). 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I used to love this stuff as well! I still love it actually, but the one drawback I find is that it makes my shower floor reeeally slippery. So it’s a bit of a hazard for me, haha! But I do think it’s a genius idea cause I feel like I waste so much time putting on lotion as well 🙂

      Hi Ellamarie84,

I was afraid it would make my shower floor slippery too, but it wasn’t too bad.

Anyway, isn’t it crazy how much time it saves?

Me likey! I tried Dove’s Cream Oil Shower, and let me just say it changed my life. I’m a scaly alligator too, but I carry my scales around with me (read: too lazy to put on cream). Until I found this! I just lather up, rinse, and voilá! Now we can have normal, soft skin…oh yeeaaah. 😀

      Hey Marce,

So is it like a lotion? Or a body wash combined with a lotion?

Sounds *perfect*! It gets so cold and dry here during the winter, I usually just give up on body moisturizers, mainly because I’m freezing post-shower and just want to jump into bed as quickly as possible. But anything that gives me an excuse to stay in the shower longer (mmm… warm) *and* has the added benefits of keeping away scales is muchly appreciated 😀

It went well! My roots have returned to a happy place, LOL!

My stylist cut off about five inches and gave me bangs, too. You can see a pic here.

      Hi Marisol,

Yah, it was a spur of a moment thing. It’s a little short for now, but I figured this way the cut will last a while.

I have yet to commit to Ry-Ry, LOL! But I don’t mind looking at him. 😉

This must be haircut day. Got mine done too — was badly in need of some cleanup shaping. So love my magic stylist.

I’m curious about this lotion. My skin does not like winter and is producing major scales right now. Does it make your shower floor slippery? How much residue does it leave on your towel?

      Hi Steph B,

So true! Stylists make miracles happen. 🙂 What does your hair look like now?

I think for some people the slipperiness might be an issue, but for some reason it really isn’t for me. I dunno… maybe my bathtub has good traction or something, but I don’t have that problem.

As for residue on the towel, I don’t really get any!

My hair was shoulder length and now it is just above. Seems like such a simple change but it makes a big difference somehow. I have golden brown hair that is wavy/curly on its own but lately I’ve been blowing it out. Not super straight — too thick for that. I still do a double take when I see that straight-haired chick in the mirror!

That looks perfect for me! My skin, especially my legs, is really dry but i’m too lazy to put on lotion. This looks awesome!! If i can do it in the shower, I can have smooth legs! 😀 thanks for the idea karen!

    btw, what stores sell this?

You can pick it up at any drugstore. They have several “flavors,” so give the other ones a sniff too!

i’ve been using this for over a year now, and i love it. it’s especially convenient when you’ve just done sports, when you’re still warm and sweating even after a shower. just rinse with this and you’ll not need to slap on lotion.

I have tried various versions of this type of product and I do like it, but sometimes I worry that I rinse it all away and so its useless to use. I love being in the shower and standing under the hot water, so even a couple extra minutes in the shower makes me feel like I am rinsing all the moisture away. Am I silly or just paranoid?

    Karen,
I used this awhile back and I LOVED it too! Isn’t the smell delish? I find that in winter I do still need lotion but in the spring/summer it was lotion optional when I used this. A winter must have: Aveeno Intense Relief Repair Cream. Christine from temptalia recommended this a while back. The texture of it is light but do not be fooled. It’s amazing! Oh and regular exfoliating will help with the scales.

I love Olay In Shower Body Lotion. I hope Olay keeps making this stuff because I love not having to dry off and then put lotion on and then wait for the lotion to absorb to put my clothes on. The Shea Butter formula is the best at moisturizing and has a nice scent. The Quench formula is really nice to use in the summer time because literally leaves your skin glowing because of the mica in the lotion.

I looove this stuff. I just miss the big bottles they used to sell! It seems like the bottle now is 1/2 as big for the same price. ($7ish) I hate putting lotion on, hate feeling greasy, so this is perfect for me. And it’s great in the winter because you don’t have to stand around freezing while your lotion is drying.
