A Healing Drugstore Haul: Can I Get an Amen?

February 9th, 2010 by Karen 40 Comments

Nothing hits the spot like a drugstore haul, and since I was a little cranky this afternoon, I decided to stop by Target to cheer myself up.

I started with anti-cranky essentials like candy (see above) and magazines (see below).

But I found the REAL hard core healing in the beauty aisle. That’s where it usually happens for me, ha!

Physicians Formula, Sonia Kashuk and Sally Hansen? Check, check and check. 🙂

Doesn’t that can of makeup remover pads look neat? I can’t wait to put ’em to work (I’ll let you know how they are).

I was feeling a little better after Target but still wasn’t 100%, which brings me to Marshalls.

That’s where I found this work of fantastic literature for $4…

LOL! A Pocket Guide to Cats? Someone must have seen me coming. It was like the cherry on a sundae, I swear! 😀

What’s the last best thing you found at a drugstore? I’ll make a note to remember it for a future haul.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I am really liking the Maybelline Eye Studio quads right now; to the point that I have 11/12 of the colours… *sheepish*. The pigmentation is pretty decent and the shadows are nice and soft, and I really like the color combinations – they’re very different for drugstore quints!

I also am loving GOSH Lip balms; they’re super pigmented but really light! Definitely picking some more up when they go on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart again 🙂

Can’t wait to hear what you have to say about the makeup remover lotion! After seeing lollipop26’s review of the neutrogena one I’ve been wanting to try out a lotion, especially since I have VERY VERY dry skin.

The best thing found in the drugstore (especially Target) is the clearance aisle at the end of each aisle. I seem to spend a lot of time browsing the items with the red tags.

Sorry you had a bad day

I’m interested in the makeup remover too! I’m almost through a jar of Almay pads, and wondering about other options….

The last great thing I found at the drugstore was the Catrice eye-matic liner. Packaging-wise it is exactly like MAC’s technakohl. The formula isn’t as good and smooth but it’s okay until I get my hands on some MAC 🙂

Unluckily our drugstores are not as the ones you know – almost no cosmetics! But still, going there and browsing through products still is a grat way to cheer up on not-so-good days!

Lately I’m loving the Revlon Natural Honey body lotion, works great on my dry skin! On my bad days, things that make me feel soft and smell good are always welcome 😀 and another good find is the Montagne Jeunesse Chocolate Mud Masque, it makes my skin hydrated and glowy and it feels like spreading a chocolate mousse on your face, LOL!

probably not available at US markets but the best eyeshadow duos i’ve encountered in my local Watson’s (a popular drugstore in my country) was 4U2’s Glitz eyeshadow duos—some are shimmery (just the right amount, i swear!) while some are satin-y, *super* pigmented and goes on nicely on lids (not powdery at all!) 😀

The best thing I found at the drugstore (or in this case, Target) is the Sonia Kashuk bent eyeliner brush — I LOVE THAT BRUSH! The price is right and it works!

When im feeling down or tired or just in need of cheering up, I haul myself down to Target and just walk the aisles. Sometimes I dont buy anything, sometimes I do … but there is something relaxing and therapeutic about browsing Target.

That book is a gem … might need to check it out @ my Marshalls.

Have a great day Karen … humpday today … countdown to the weekend begins!!!

I agree. The SK Bent Eyeliner brush is my favorite brush of all, I use it every single day for applying my gel/cream eyeliner, it is AWESOME. I never used to wear eyeliner much at all until I came across it.

Seeing as how most of my stuff is from the drugstore/Target, I’d say the last best thing I found was all my clearance stuff from CVS. Major score!

I completely agree – shopping sprees at Target are good for the soul. Especially when they involve makeup.
I bought a Soap & Glory face mask & hair mask on Monday… I haven’t really tried them out yet, so I don’t know if they’re even any good, but I *love* the packaging so much I’m just gonna go ahead and say they’re the last best thing I bought 😀

I’ve been really impressed with the Soap and Glory line at Target – especially the deodorant! I am actually allergic to the aluminum stuff in pretty much every deodorant out there, but the Soap and Glory one doesn’t have that stuff in it – and it smells ahhhmazing!!! 🙂

OMG – you are so cute! Okay here’s my Walgreen’s haul from Monday:
Emergency “lady” products – cuz you never know when you need it – esp. at your work desk
    trident layered gum…strawberry citrus…mmm….yummy!
Maybelline Melon gloss in a tube – It’s way too sheer and frankly don’t know if I’m really going to use it but it was 40% off. It was cheaper than the $9 sandwich I bought for lunch last week!

SOUR PATCH KIDS!!! That got me through my pregnancy – seriously! You think – “gross, won’t that make you puke?” well the sour acid actually counter attacks the queasiness – I know that’s subjective but it really did work for me!

I bought the Feb Glamour w/V. Beckham on it just because it was pink and supergirly looking – it automatically lifted my spirts just flipping through it!

I still need to try the Sonia Kashuk brushes – I was very obsessed with her in the 90’s because I remember seeing her do a “model look” on some chic on House of Style w/Cindy Crawford. HA – remember that show? I tried to catch every dang episode!!

I love this post! I have used almost all of those products. The makeup remover pads take some getting used to. I found that if I start at the outside of my eye and wipe the pad going in towards my nose (backwards the way you would normally apply eyeliner) it takes off a little more makeup a little faster. They’re not the greatest makeup removers in the world but I love them because they are natural. I realized a few months ago that everything I use has way too many chemicals in it. I have tried using natural soaps, shampoos, conditioners and etc. and have found that I love natural products. I especially love natural cleaners for my house cause they don’t have a chemically smell to em.

The cuticle pen is awesome too. I find that sometimes I forget to actually use it though. It does work pretty well for a decent price but unfortunately for me it ended up in the bottom of a makeup drawer and hasn’t come out since (I own way too many cosmetic products that I forget about and this was one of em). This post made me dig it out though. Hopefully I don’t forget about it again.

And I LOVE my magazines. Although I hate when I see a gorgeous coat or bag or something and then it says “Price Upon Request”! Obviously more than half the people reading the magazine can’t afford that. In that issue of Marie Claire I love the whole wonderland themed fashions! AHHHHH I wanna be rich so I can spend money without even thinking about it!

Oh, I love the Sally Hansen cuticle oil pen! It used to be a permanent handbag fixture– doesn’t leak, dispenses the right amount, and has a really nice almond oil scent. And I’m really curious about the bent eyeliner brush! I’ve been meaning to get one, and I love SK brushes, but the angle looks a little off to me.

When I feel cranky and go to the drugstore, I usually get a new shampoo/conditioner combo or body wash; smelling something nice always improves my bad mood, so it’s always the go-to. Needless to say, there are more bottles in my shower than I know what to do with!

And, OMG, A Pocket Guide to Cats!?!? Marshall’s always has something cheerful, too. That’s too cute.

    Karen,
I totally hit up the drugstore or target when I’m having a bad day.
Fav Thing from Target: the accessories clearance aisle. I have several bags from Tar-jay that were on the clearance. I also LOVE the Method Cleaning products including the handsoap, glass cleaner, bathroom wipes, and multipurpose spray.

Drugstore Favs: 5th Avenue Candybar, Arizona Red Apple Tea in a huge can, and lipgloss. My favs are CG Amazemint, CG Fruitspritzers, and Neutrogena Moistureshine. I have my lipstuff in a gallon sized bag! Unreal!
