What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

February 28th, 2010 by Karen 58 Comments

MY BEST:

Couple of good ones this week, which is great because they offset the doozies I have for the “Worst” list below… I’ve had a series of really good hair days, and the pimples on my chin are in full retreat, huzzah!

MY WORST:

I haven’t been taking care of my feet, and now the skin on the tops of my tootsies resembles worn leather. 🙁 Most of the last polish I used has chipped away, and even my cuticles look like shredded carrots. I plan to rectify the situation tonight. Also, I haven’t been having good luck with mascara lately — ya know, when you finish your eye makeup, blink and get mascara all over the place? That’s SO ANNOYING!

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Best: its not really a good thing, but i had to be hospitalized this week but i swear the morphine they gave me cleared up my acne LOL. i guess thats the bright side of things that i now get to enjoy velvety smooth skin while i drag my butt back to school. Also i’ve been playing around with my old friend neutral shimmery eyeshadows, and i have to say i’ve missed the way these things brighten up my face.

Worst: i’ve been having some serious trouple with nail polishes these days. it seems like no matter what i do, it doesn’t want to stay chip free for more than a few hours. Arg. Also my hair has been doing so pretty funky things this week. Think medusa, but with dead snakes XD

Worst: A large pimple at the corner of my mouth right next to my lip…touching my lip! I treated it with Neutrogena Rapid Clear gel and really overdid it. It dried my skin out way too much leaving the area red and scaly and me in a “don’t want to leave my house” mood. After three days it is finally settling down.

Best: I came up with a new look for my eyes using Benefit Creaseless Creams. Sambad-y Loves Me, Bunny Hop or Sippin N’ Dippin’ on the eyelid up to the browbone and then Skinny Jeans in the corner V. Got a few compliments that my eyes looked great, which made my day! Hopefully the eyes diverted attention from the gigantic zit! Also had a good week with my nails, getting the cuticles under control- Barielle Intensive Nail Renewal Oil ($3 at Marshall’s).

My best and worst beauty moments came in the same package this week. I have long been looking for a concealer that would counteract my dark under-eye area. Haven’t gotten good coverage in years! So i made a visit to my local theater make up company where a MA glanced at me and told me i was olive. I guess i had been fighting it all these years continuing to buy make up for warm tones. Well, just as he applied the concealer, achieving the most spectacular results… all those icy pink lipglosses i had been saving in hopes of finding that perfect liner on which to top it, all flew out the window.
It was bittersweet. But i’m totally loving my new concealer. Shout out to Kryolan!

Best: I bought a flat iron and damn if my wavy hair doesn’t feel silky with it. I figured it would look sleeker than when I blow it straight but feel about the same. Nuh uh. Now I just have to fight the urge to straighten every day because I don’t want to damage my hair and my cut just isn’t suited to it.

Worst: I can’t believe I’m saying this but Chanel’s Coco Rouge. This was my first ever Chanel purchase. Maybe because of all of the hype I feel especially let down. But after wearing it for two days with and without some sort of prep product, I find it clumps together in the natural lines of my lips (which aren’t that pronounced) and it dries my lips. It is going back to Nordstrom.

Best: Bought a Remington Sleek & Curl and mastered the art of making pretty doll-curls with it. It also straightens very well!

Worst: Have suddenly gotten these tiny red bumps on my face, both on the forehead and chin. And ridges have appeared on my nails!

Best: I found my new favourite lipstick – Barry M Punky Pink! And also realised my fringe/bangs are grown out now. Plus the little flaky patch of skin I have just above my eye (how sexy do I sound!) is going. Yeah!

Worst: I bought some Seche Vite and I don’t think I really like?

I’ve tried two skin products — a BB cream and foundation — from two different Korean brands. So far so good, no breakouts. 😀 The worst is my trusted mascara is starting to fail me. -_- Other than huge solid bits would sometimes stick to my lashes, my lashes even feel heavy. I need to find a trusted, for-everyday mascara to replace it.

Best: My Aussie leave-in conditioner spray smells so good and makes my hair ridonk soft and wavy when i spray it on before i go to bed. also…5 of my girlfriends asked me to do henna tramp stamps on them while we had a movie night and they all turned out bada*ss haha. not exactly a beauty experience…but close enough. =D

Hmm… worst was Tuesday when I woke up with my face so puffy I had trouble opening my eyes! That was a horrible day… Its hard having a mild cat allergy with four cats, it tends to get bad. Then I took a ton of allergy medications and ended up taking too many and feeling like a zombie for a couple days.

Best? My hair has apparently been looking nice lately? Although I think they said that in an attempt to stop my from french braiding it back again (it kind of makes me look 12, but its so easy! and then I don’t have to think about it for the rest of the day!)

Wow. I hope this week goes better…

My worst included super fast chipping of my STUDDED nails …they lasted about 36 hours. I am also having hair-issues with my bangs (which need a major overhaul) and a pimple starting just at the inner corner of my right eyebrow…..HOW ANNOYING!!!

Best: Two Words–ULTA HAUL. I think I’m becoming addicted. Mine has Benefit, Cargo, Urban Decay, Smashbox, Stila….lots of the same brands as Sephora and lots cheaper as I’m not paying s&h! I had daydreams of splaying over the Urban Decay, Benefit, Smashbox and Stila counters. I was in Make-up Heaven.

My mom bought me Benefit creaseless eye liner/shadow in Strut and a brand new full-size bottle of UDPP original. I have Eden but my dry eyelids don’t like Eden at the moment. My mom got a set of Ecotools brushes, Eucerin lotion, Cargo palette in Baja (I helped her pick that one out just so I can use it too!) and Benefit lipstick in Jing-a-ling. We spent soooooo much money. I about died when I saw the price. We justified it by saying, “Higher-priced make-up is made with higher grade materials meaning better quality. For our sensitive skin, this means a less chance of reacting to it.” We just won’t tell Dad the exact price. We fudged it….by nearly forty dollars (oh yea, I’ll be doing the kitchen for a looooooooong while).

I tried out a few UD lipsticks but I didn’t go home with any as I wasn’t feeling lipsticky and couldn’t justify spending $22 on a lipstick for some reason. I might have to go back and purchase Perversion or Naked. I’m having buyer’s remorse about not bringing one home!

I found a bunch of Smashbox brushes and two Stila lip glazes from somewhere last night. I was like, “When and where did I get these?” I think Zena’s been e-shopping for me because I don’t remember ever purchasing them!

My best and worst this week are the same thing: not using make-up at all. I’m Catholic, and for Lent this year I opted to give up using make-up (except for chapstick, cause my lips get so dry lol). It’s the best because now I have a little more time in the morning to sleep in, so I get a little extra beauty sleep. It’s the worst because I’m only just coming out of a bad break-out, so my skin still has marks which I can’t put concealer on now. But overall, I’m feeling good so far about giving it up. 🙂
