My grandma has the biggest and prettiest baby pink and lilac hydrangeas I have ever seen in her garden on the island. She gave a tree to my mom so she could start her own line, but since my mom has no green thumb whatsoever, the didn’t make it long…

We call them hortenzije here:) But the english name is very fitting since they require a lot of water to survive!

Yep, all the tourist always ask her if they can have their photos taken in her gardens! She just recently got some weird tree with leaves that smell like lemon when they crushed in between fingers. We have no idea how’s it called, but I’d use it as a perfume if I could, how good it smells!

How intriguing! I would probably spend all day just crushing the leaves and smelling them, LOL! El Hub makes fun of me because my sense of smell is so “ON” (he says I have the nose of a basset hound).

Love them! We planted a bunch last spring then they all promptly died. 🙁 I think the hubbie over watered them…

I think they’re very picky about water and sunlight. When I usually see them they’re in a shady spot…

Yeah ours were in mostly sun and the hubbie drenched them with water every day. I warned him! 🙂

I love Periwinkle! Here are a few fun facts about the color from the Crayola website, if you’re interested:

Love em so much I have them planted in my yard! Fun fact, you can change the color to a certain extent by futzing with the PH levels of the soil. The more acidic the soil the pinker the hydrangeas.

Love them! Just planted a miniature hydrangea bush last summer. It’s supposed to be a deep pink (won’t change with soil ph levels). Can’t wait to see if it comes back and blooms this summer!

Just remembered my neighbor’s white hydrangea bushes from when I was little…we used to always call them the “snowball bushes” because we thought they looked like giant snowballs while they were in bloom 🙂

Did you ever pick any? When I was a kid I was always tempted to go into yards and go to town on the flowers!

Have you seen lacy hydrangeas? They are so delicate and pretty. My mom has gone hydrangea crazy. She dries a bunch each year and now has vases of them all over the house.
