NARS Sin Blush: BFF to Purple Glosses Everywhere

April 21st, 2010 by Karen 59 Comments

I’ve had my share of flings with purple glosses 🙂 (still lovin’ ya, MAC Lavender Whip!), but I’ve never found the right blush to go with ’em.

(until now)

Shimmery golden berry NARS Blush in Sin ($26) just may be the perfect partner for purple gloss. It’s been part of the NARS family (permanent) for some time now, but I just recently gave it a try.

Speaking of purple, has anyone else been crushing hard on purple lipgloss lately? I’ve been working my way through a phase triggered by the new purple glosses from Benefit and Too Faced (but I digress…).

Sin kinda intimidated me at first, sitting all dark and scary in the pan, but applied gingerly with a large, fluffy brush head, I think it lends a faint violet flush to my cheeks (or try a fan brush for even sheerer application).

I didn’t think a purple blush could look natural, but I really think Sin does. Like other NARS blushes I’ve tried, Sin packs a fine powder texture that blends easily, but doesn’t hang around as long on the skin. When I’ve put it on at 8, it’s been straight-up gone by 3, so I’ve bringing along a travel brush for touchups on the go.

It’s not a bargain blush at $26 (and I’d rather not have to reapply), but I’m sold on the color of NARS Sin. If you’ve got a tube of purple lipglosses looking for a friend, snag a swatch on your next trip to a NARS counter. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

L.A. Candy: My world has changed forever!!

Okay, not really. 🙂 I finished the book last night, and I’m almost too embarrassed to admit this: I kinda liked it! Sure, it’s nothing revolutionary; I wanted something fluffy and fast, and that’s just what it delivered.

I gotta hand it to L.C. The girl’s got a New York Times bestseller now, and how many ex-reality TV stars can say that? A big YAY for cheesy, mind-melting teen lit!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day to us all!

That’s a really good pic of LC! She looks flawless and gorgeous!

The blush looks wonderful on your skin, sheer, subtle, beautiful! I think it’s cute that you’re on a purple gloss kick, I would never even think to try purple glosses on my olive tone skin, I might have to give it a go, cos they look fab on you Karen!

Hope you have a great day!

      Hi Van,

Yah, her makeup looks really great in that pic, yah?

You’ve gotta try purple gloss. I would’ve never thought it would work with my skin, either. I’m glad I gave it a chance. 🙂

Hey Karen, you should try violet shimmer sunrise from lancome; it came in one of the holday palettes but its a permanent color. my skintone is similar, so i thought i would recommend. now i’m going to have to buy a purple lipgloss……

thanks girl! I was surprised with a dozen roses from my bosses. I didn’t think I was going to get anything. They will be taking me out to lunch next week – my choice. If that’s the case – lunch will be either at Slanted Door or Osha Thai hahaha – I don’t mess around!

I may have to pick up Sex Pot gloss. How can I not, with that name??

Wow, Karen great minds think alike! SIn of one of my favs for plummy blushes. It looks more mauve on me though. As far as LC’s book, sometimes we all need a little gossip or just plain fun in our reading repertoire. Hey, I’m reading Kathy Griffin’s book right now!

I have found myself obsessing over purple glosses lately too. I really loved the purple one from the Liberty of London collection (why is the name escaping me??). But I want some shimmery ones for summer. Let me know if you find more fab ones! I really love that blush. Adding to list . . . .

Karen, have you tried the Love & Beauty cosmetics? It's Forever 21's realllly low priced make up brand. I'm afraid to buy from it, because it's dirt cheap, but I've heard some good review on it. They have mascaras for 2.80 and highlighter-bronzer-blush-lipgloss-mascara sets for 6 dollars! Have you tried any of it?

The sales associate at Sephora suggested Sin for me when I was there the other night, but it looked so scary in the pan for my pale skin. Wish I would have tried it out now. I settled for Smashbox Soft Lights in Shimmer, because my rosacea is acting up lately and I don’t need added color – just some highlight.
