I Took a Shine to Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Electrify

May 25th, 2010 by Karen 39 Comments

illamasqua electrify lipgloss review

Perhaps you survived Monday without losing any teeth; maybe you made it out of the door this morning wearing two matching shoes, or you managed to avoid flashing anyone in the grocery store — no matter how small the accomplishment, I believe with the utmost conviction that a tube of pretty pink lipgloss always, ALWAYS makes a fine reward.

Allow me to introduce Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Electrify ($19). 🙂

One of 10 colors in the company’s permanent line, Electrify kisses lips with just a hint of cool baby pink color.

Unlike some sheer glosses that shall remain nameless (ahem, Benefit Lipgloss!), it doesn’t disappear in a flash. It’s sheer, but not so sheer that it’s invisible. As for the shine? Oh, the shine… Mr. Clean wishes his bald head was HALF as shiny as Electrify.

illamasqua electrify lipgloss review

I’d love to shine a light on Illamasqua and ask them to reduce the price a few dollars ($19 is a little spendy), but it feels like a great deal. You get a texture that doesn’t stick, wonderful wear time for a non-sticky gloss (about four hours), and you don’t get any funky-a*# flavor or scent.

illamasqua electrify lipgloss review

The smoochable pink stain Electrify leaves on my lips after the bulk of the color disappears is like a gift that keeps on giving.

I think it’s SO PRETTY!

When I did some surfing to see what others have said about it, I noticed a couple complaints that called it drying. I didn’t feel that way about , but if it’s a problem a moisturizing balm applied before bedtime should help (Clinique makes one I really like called Super Balm).

Pink lipgloss? Small victories? I say go for it. 🙂 Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

You might like Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Electrify if…

  • You like how you look in cool pinks
  • You favor glosses that don’t feel sticky
  • You like sheer lips but still want some color

Congrats, class of 2010!

Graduations are one of my favorite rites of passage, and I thought the one I went to on Sunday for my bro’s girlfriend was really inspiring, and hella entertaining, too. There were a series of cultural performances put on by the Filipino-American student union on campus, and I left the gym feeling energized and happy.

My bro!

His girlfriend waving to us from the crowd!

To everyone who walked across the stage this year, a big congrats to you. Count me in as someone who’s proud of what you’ve accomplished. Way to go!

Karen

    Yay – congrats!!
It’s great to see pics of your brother/and his girl (I know them both but you already knew that!)

It’s a lovely gloss but I have a feeling that it will be drying on me. Boo!

I just graduated yesterday too (from law school). Even though I already own more makeup than one person should ever have, maybe I’ll pick up some gloss as a graduation present to myself!

The bar exam (blech). After that….unemployment, ha. It’s an awful time to be looking for a job. I’m hoping something comes thru over the summer.

I’ve been playing with those Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks that you recommended, and WOW are they fabulous!! I wore Spotlight Beige to my graduation yesterday – put it on at 9AM and it stayed put until I got my diploma at 1:30. Amazing stuff.

AWESOME! I’m so glad you like the Rimmel lippies. 🙂 They are great for the price, right?

As for the bar, are you taking it soon?

It’s a rough market right now, but with your law degree you still have a lot of options. I worked in legal for several years and knew a lot of fresh-out-of-school folks. You can always get in somewhere as a legal assistant to tide you over… I knew a lot of people who did that. It allowed them to get a foot into the door (and access to the firm’s internal job listings).

Yeah, they’re fantastic. Definitely my new favorite lipstick (I also love Rimmel’s Lasting Finish – super creamy and they last forever too).

I’m taking the bar at the end of July, and I have the next two months of bar prep classes to look forward to. Not fun.

Thanks for the tip – I’ll keep that in mind. Right now I’m just keeping my head down and studying. Jobs will be much harder to come by if I fail the bar!

I showed my mom your website yesterday when she came for a visit…aaaaaaand she wanted to know if you’re Fliipino! She reminds me of the dad off of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. “Everybody is Greek or wants to be Greek!” (filipino, of course!) 🙂

Is your mom into makeup? Mine totally isn’t… she likes nail polish and lipstick, but that’s as far as she’ll go.

Can I just say that your brother’s girlfriend is SO PRETTY? And I love how Pinoy everything is about this graduation.

On topic: That lipgloss is gorgeous AND shiny! Looks like the lasting power is pretty good, too.

Also, I need to know who I should bribe to bring Illamasqua to the P.I., especially if they’re willing to bring their prices down a bit. I know that there are a few “online shopping” sites that re-sell American cosmetics here (mostly on Multiply)… but I want a counter in Rustan’s!

As for the lipgloss, do you know anybody over in the UK? It might be cheaper to get it there.

Glad to know about your brother’s GF! Such a sweetheart. 🙂

No friends yet in the UK (or at least friends who are close enough to trust with a massive haul like that… mostly classmates that I’ve only gotten in touch with recently on Facebook), but I think I could ask around if anybody has time to visit the Sephora in Hong Kong any time soon 😉

Also, I’m keeping an eye out for dupes from any of the legitimate Japanese or Korean cosmetics boutiques out here – usually they’re pretty good in terms of quality, and some of them are pretty long-lasting for the price. It’ll be an adventure, for sure!

Sounds like a neat ceremony. Your brother’s girlfriend is a cutie!

I love what Sephora has done for the accessibility of beauty products but I kind of hate how $19 is a ‘normal’ lip gloss price anymore. Even a MAC gloss still feels like an indulgence to me when there are so many decent cheapies out there, y’know?

Does it really leave a stain behind? Are they supposed to do that?
I know that the Mark Gorgeous glosses are made to leave a stain, but I hate ordering in the mail and would try to pick this up instead.
