What Sets Tarte emphasEYES Apart from Other Shadows and Liners?

June 30th, 2010 by Karen 40 Comments

tarte emphaseyes review swatches photos

Rise and shine, morning glory. 🙂 Can we talk about clay? — as in Amazonian white clay (not Aiken)? Tarte’s new emphasEyes Shadow/Liners ($22), an entirely new product line released for summer, come in five shades — black, brown, indigo, plum and bronze — each made with something Tarte refers to as micronized Amazonian white clay.

Tarte claims it works wonders by moisturizing the skin while improving elasticity (among other things).

I just started wearing the Indigo one. It’s a deep shimmery blue with a rich, creamy texture (kinda reminds me of my beloved Benefit Creaseless Creams).

So far I’ve only used Indigo as a liner, and in that respect I’m on the fence. It takes at least three layers to build it into a solid line of color. As for how well it resists water, I’d call it okay (it starts to smudge a bit after only a few hours). That is to say, I wouldn’t use it to go deep sea diving. Who knows — maybe I got a wonky pot…

LOVE lovethe color, but for $22 I wish it lasted longer. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

Happy hump day, girl. 🙂 What do ya got on your plate today?

Karen

Hmm…if it took 3 layers for a solid color I may pass. I hate having to build up color especially it I’m trying to use the product as an eyeliner.

Well this is my Monday. I took an extended weekend vacation. Today has been pretty mellow -It’s not as bad as I thought.

Really pretty, pity of the having to build up colour and the fact that it doesn’t last really long.

Today was a good day. Last day at work. But then it turned a bit for the worse: my week of shakespeare course at East 15 has been cancelled. I’m so disappointed. I still have the Stage Combat course the week after but still, I really – really – wanted to do the shakespeare one. I’m trying to find another Shakespeare course at another school but the chance at that is slim…

      Hi Karen B,

Stage Combat seems like it would be a LOT of fun. That’s fight choreo, right? Will you be doing weapons?

Yes, it is fight choreo. There will be weapons, fencing and hand to hand combat. And at the end of the week we’ll get a test to get our Foundation Certificat from the British Association of Dramatic Combat. Awesome huh?

And I might have found another Shakespeare course but at Central St Martins so fingers crossed that that one works out.

The product gets a LOT of great reviews on Sephora, so it might be worth trying next time you’re there. I may have gotten a bad pot!

No idea really … I was going to wander around the store, swatch and maybe ask for 2 to 3 samples that I can try out.

What do you suggest I should check out? Im anywhere between NC30-37 depending on the time of the year… 🙂

I haven’t tried it yet with my SK brush; I used it with the included liner brush, which was okay.

oh, bummer it’s not working for you. I actually have the bronze one and I LOVE it! don’t feel like I have to layer it on and I haven’t noticed it smearing any faster than my other gel iners. I’m pretty impressed with it so far and would recommend them to anyone who is interested.

      Hi Amanda,

That’s good to know! This products gets raves from a lot of women, so I’m betting it will work great for some MBB readers. I just wish it lasted longer on me so I’d have the excuse to stock up on the other shades. 🙂

I agree. I bought the Bronze and it’s utter perfection for me. The brush is worth raving about, too. It’s not unmoveable, but no gel liners are for me. They’ll smear in the corners. This lasts just as well as any others I’ve tried. I’m hooked!

    Hi
That swatch up there is lovely and I love reading your blog.

I have a question though, my mom is in her 50s and applies liquid liner to her eyes everyday; it looks really harsh on her beautiful eyes and it emphasizes her wrinkles, I wish I could tell her this but I don’t know how. There are so many days that I want to do a makeover on her to show her how to use black eyeshadow for a softer effect, but I don’t know what to do, can you or anyone else help me?

    Thanks.

      Hi Jess,

It’s hard to take criticism from our loved ones, so it might not be the best idea to come right out and tell her what you think.

Maybe set up a fun girls day with her — take her to lunch, and then maybe rent a few fun movies and do an at-home mani/pedi with her and a makeup makeover. While you do her eyes explain what the benefits are of doing softer liner. When you’re done, compliment her on how good it looks. I bet she’d love spending the time with you!

Agree with Karen’s suggestion about the fun girls day. My sister is in her 50s too and was stuck in the 70s as far as her make up was concerned.

When she started noticing my eyeliner (UD 24×7) and how it lasted all day (and well into the night sometimes), I told her I found it at Sephora and maybe we should go. When we got there, we prowled the aisles and then I turned her over to an SA who had awesome suggestions for her, including the UD 24×7 and a peach blush. She now looks mroe modern (and her eyebrows dont look scawyyy anymore!) …

If its fun, it wont hurt! 😉

I so wanted this color until I saw it takes three layers to build up color. Have you tried L’Oreal Paris’s HiP eyeliner in Midnight Blue? It’s pretty darn close to that color and about $10 cheaper.

The only things on my plate is walking Zena, giving Zena her Heartguard and Frontline and probably a nap. I woke up with a vicious headache!

That is a beautiful blue color! I may get it, if only to use as a cream shadow. Too bad it takes so many layers to get a solid line. I will probably see if I can find it at Sephora to test.
