Should You Breeze Past This Boots No. 7 Mineral Eyeshadow Trio?

July 23rd, 2010 by Karen 10 Comments

Joining empty toilet paper rolls and the reality TV star known as “The Situation” on my list of pet peeves: awkward makeup packaging.

Since my recent brush with Boots beauty products left me seeing stars (I found Star Anise, aka my current favorite drugstore gloss!), I expected this Breeze to blow me away.

At first I thought the small curved brush that comes with the Boots No. 7 Mineral Perfection Shadow Palette in Breeze ($9) looked kinda cute and innovative, but that changed as soon as I tried to wield it. The thing’s a bear to use! — clunky and hard to manipulate (at least by me).

Making matters worse, the three bands of makeup in the palette are, like, so narrow that even a MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush, with its relatively small brush head, barely fits the pans.

I would have gladly overlooked the packaging had the shadows been great, but I think they’re just okay. I wouldn’t mind how sheer they are if they weren’t so powdery at the same time. They visibly sit on top of my skin (slightly), which because of the funky packaging probably bothers me more than it should.

Although this Breeze wasn’t the wind beneath my wings, I’m not giving up on Boots eyeshadows yet. They have a big selection to choose from (more reviews to follow) and good drugstore prices. I hope I find a real gem soon! Available at Target stores and online. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C

The colors look way more sheer than I would have expected from the pan. Glad to see them swatched!

Hi Karen! Thanks for the review! I bought a single eyeshadow from Lancome several years ago that had that same curved little applicator. I just throw them away because I don’t use sponge applicators anyway. The darker blue looks really nice on your skin tone, but the two lighter shades look like they may be scarily Studio 54ish. I like boots, but this eye shadow trio looks like a big fail.

Thanks for the swatches and review! 9 bucks saved….may be I should spend the 9 bucks on some Boots shower gel/cream instead. 😉

Milani single eyeshadows also have those weird curved applicators. I’ve never tried those or these. I’ve heard that the Milani ones are pretty good though. I think they keep all the good Boots stuff back in the UK. so stingy!

Yep, my two little Jugs (that sounds so wrong) but that’s really what they’re called! I wish it was Puggle, but that’s a Poodle and a Pug.
My Lola and Mindy are niece and aunt. They come from my bff”s house ..they have like six dogs and two cats. It kills me when i go to her house.
People always tell me how smart Jack Russell’s are, but i don’t see it in my dogs very often. It must be the pug. I (or anyone else for that matter) definitely cannot dispute the personality part. Mindy has the body of a Jack Russell for sure and some of the smarts. Lola doesn’t really look like a Pug or a Jack Russell but she’s fat and stocky and just weird looking with not a whole lot going on in her enormous head. But she gets by with her face though. It’s pretty damn cute in person 🙂 Not so much in pictures though as much as i try 🙁
I’m kind of really sad that she’s getting fixed next weekend even though i Know it’s the “responsible” thing to do as a pet owner. Sigh :'(
There’s always dogs running loose in our neighborhood! It drives me mad and caused my mom to get a golf club for when she goes out walking in the morning. There’s been a few cases of people getting mauled by some Pit Bulls lately which i find really sad because they have to be put down afterwards ..There’s also a few in our neighborhood on the loose. Makes me nervous!

I like your buddy’s site by the way . It’s pretty neat!

That sponge applicator takes up a lot of real estate in the compact! Seems like some of that space could have been better spent on wider eyeshadow pans.

I had 2 eyeshadows from Boots at some point during my early make up days. One was okay and the other one was meh. I found them at the clearance bins at Target.

Those ended up being given to my sister who I believe uses them to date.

    Star Anise FTW tho!

I normally don’t bother with drugstore brands, but every now and then there is a treasure to be found. Boots eyeshadows definitely aren’t one of them! The colors lack depth and sit on the surface of the lid which means they look flat, they emphasize imperfections in skin smoothness, and they fade quickly. Although they might be fine for young teenagers experimenting with color, women who want flattering color that lasts the day should look elsewhere.
