Insomniacs Should Have a Ball with the Smashbox Masquerade Palette

July 30th, 2010 by Karen 52 Comments

smashbox masquerade eye palette swatches review
Here I’m wearing makeup from the Smashbox Masquerade Collection for fall 2010: The Eye Palette in Masquerade on my eyes, Creamy Cheek Color & Brush in Intrigue on my Cheeks and Masquerade Lip Enhancing Gloss in Reveal on my lips.

Friends, citizens, insomniacs, lend me your eyes; I come to bury complicated eye looks, not to praise them. 🙂 Put down that Sleepytime Tea for a second, Caesar, and take a look at the new Smashbox Masquerade Eye Palette ($35) — enemy of complicated eye looks everywhere!

You don’t have to be an aeronautical engineer to put together fly looks with this palette of nine powder shadows in neutral and jewel-toned shades. In it, Smashbox cleverly placed complementary colors in three horizontal rows, basically taking the guesswork out of color matching. It’s a breakthrough of epic proportions, yo! — particularly for lazy chicks and insomniacs (oh, hai!) like me.

After three consecutive nights of absolutely no sleep, I really, REALLY appreciate how easy it is to get ready with this palette.

Of course, if you’re the kind of girl who gets plenty of sleep and prefers to match her own colors, no problem. I think all nine of these shades work together well, and nothing says we have to use them in any specific order.

I used the shades in the second row (the shimmery khaki, gold and bronze) for my makeup today, adding a bit of the shimmery dark blue from the third row for smokiness. To complete the look, I dipped back into the Masquerade collection again, pulling out the Creamy Cheek Color & Brush in Intrigue and Lip Enhancing Gloss in Reveal.

Smashbox heaped pigment into these shadows and conjured up an easy-to-blend texture that both newbies and full-blown eyeshadow addicts should love. By far, this is my favorite product from the Masquerade collection and a standout piece for fall. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Oh my Lord, I was so sleep deprived I put the wrong zip code on the order for my special light-blocking eye mask. I then got progressively angrier and sleepier as days passed without its arrival. Until, of course, the completely sweet customer service person unearthed that joy.

        Short answer: yes.

I am comfortable with yellow-greens and blue-purples. The only real blue I have is a matte navy that shows up kind of grey on me unless I build it up a lot.

Sounds like a nice night in! Mark has to work tomorrow so we had asparagus and leftover rotisserie chicken and we’ll be going to bed soon. But first I’m about to cut into a baked s’mores cookie bar thing that I whipped up when I got home!

            S’mores… NOM! 🙂

Well, the movie we rented turned out to be a complete dud. It was Sherlock Holmes … I made it through about 15 minutes before completely checking out. Then again I’m not a big Guy Ritchie fan.

            Anywho, have a good Saturday!

Ok so I tried that blush today. Not that into it. It’s too subtle for me, and the brush is so scratchy/non-soft! I think I might return it and get the highlighter.
