A MAC Fabulous Felines Face of the Day: Cat Eyes with a Golden Twist

August 31st, 2010 by Karen 65 Comments

Tabs has been bugging me to incorporate his MAC Leopard Luxe goodies into a look. It’s his favorite one of the Fabulous Felines color stories, and he’s been going on and on about its warm gold, brown, peach and black shades. Today he said of the colors, “Meow, mrow mrroww ft ft,” to which I think everyone agrees. 🙂

Just because a look utilizes neutrals doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Take the standard cat eye, for example. They’re often done with black liners or other dark neutrals, and today I tried mine with a twist — a shimmery golden liquid eyeliner along the lashline. I wanted to spice up the look with glitter without going full-on disco.

Beginning with a basic neutral cat eye using a few colors from the Leopard Luxe eyeshadow quad — shimmery golden beige Wild By Nature on my brow bone, shimmery peachy gold Style Predator on the lid and shimmery brown Notoriety in the crease — I then drew a cat eye shape with shiny black Superslick Liquid Eye Liner in On The Hunt along my upper and lower lashlines.

To further define the shape, I lined my waterlines (both upper and lower again) with MAC Technakohl Liner in Graphblack and finished with glittery gold Superslick Liquid Eye Liner in Pure Show along the upper lash line by itself.

I went with warm peach and coral colors for my cheeks and lips. That’s Mineralize Blush in Utterly Game (a shimmery peach) on the apples of my cheeks and shimmery peachy coral Lipglass in Wildly Refined on top of shimmery coral Cremesheen Lipstick in Drive Me Wild on my kisser.

Of course, if the thought of wearing gold liner makes you cringe and picture hot pink feather boas and glow sticks, you could always skip it entirely. Even without the gold, cat eyes are always in style. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love your eyeliner! I’m so jealous! I can never get that perfect, teeny tiny cat eye down. Unless I spend hours and an entire eyeliner pen up…

      Hi Julie,

I hear ya. It took me a while to get it down… practicing helps, and so does having a good liquid liner that actually works.

Have you heard of LORAC Front of the Line Pro? Out of all the liquid liners I’ve tried it’s by far the easiest to use.

So pretty, Karen! I’m off hauling today (MAC released Fabulous Feline in Germany on the 1st). If I ever had any doubt on getting the Leopard Luxe quad, it’s totally gone :D. Now I want the lippie and the e/l you’re using…. but a limited budget of $75. How am I going to decide :P?

Hmm, maybe check out what you currently have in your collection and try to fill in the gaps? Like, if you need more blushes then grab the Mineralize Blushes (SO GREAT!).

Good idea :). Went to the store earlier and got me the LL Quad and Lithe pigment. Both are so pretty! I think the blush was lovely but I tend to prefer Nars’ so I’m telling myself I shouldn’t get them. Might go back for the liners if I could save some money next week 🙂

I love that gold liner on you! And, holy perfect lines. Everything looks flawless! I immediately started laughing because I pictured what my eyes would look like if I tried that. It’d be like watching big lies register on a polygraph! 🙂 I’m pretty sure gold won’t be for me, but I’m really set on getting some silver and playing around with that!

I think with practice you can get your lines just as crisp! 🙂

You could also always cheat by using scotch tape to help you along. Just tape along where you’d like your line, follow the edge with your liner, let it dry and then gently peel off the tape when you’re done. I do this sometimes when I want a more dramatic wing.

That’s an awesome tip – thank you! I’m sure I’ll use it after my first freehand disaster!! 🙂

This is totally off topic but the tape reminds me of my friend. We’re obsessed with droopy eyelids (we’re old) and one day she taped hers up with scotch tape. She kind of forgot about it after a while and when her 15 year old son came into the room and she turned to talk to him, he nearly jumped out of his skin and screamed “OMG! What happened?”. Poor kid. We’re still laughing about it.

Very pretty – I’ve been always hesitant to try liquid liner on the bottom lash line – I feel like it would only accentuate the eczema that’s still healing from the inner corner of my left eye. I’ve been curious of the gold liner – i guess i could always layer it on top of a black gel liner like blacktrack instead!

I got some items from FF — the Palace Pedigreed quad and the Smoky Heir liner — last week, and had been planning to go back this week to get more (the Burmese Beauty quad and Marked for Glamour) but my car is in the shop after it very unexpectedly decided to not start at all. Hopefully the liners are permanent, anyhow…

      Hi Shayamli,

Straight up, I don’t think MAC intended anything untoward with the Rodarte collection. Frankly I think such a thing would be inconceivable from them. Just look at their work with Viva Glam and the MAC AIDS Fund.

I think the company blundered by not seeing this dustup coming, but I really doubt they meant to malign anyone, nor do I think someone up there at MAC headquarters was intentionally trying to be callous. At least that’s my opinion. I don’t see the company as stupid, callous, malicious — none of those things.

I do get press samples to review from MAC and quite a few other companies, although I do also buy a lot of stuff too (much to El Hub’s dismay). MAC’s just one of many brands I cover, and I don’t cover everything they release, nor do I always like all of their stuff. MAC products actually make up very few of my posts, and even if I didn’t cover the brand at all, I’d keep chugging along just fine.

Just my two cents. Hope you have a great night. Thanks for asking such a thought provoking question.
