Have We Met Before, Bobbi Brown Glitter Liner?

November 2nd, 2010 by Karen 51 Comments

Bobbi Brown Glitter Eyeliner in Silver, $20

Above is what happens when your home team wins the World Series while you’re swatching Bobbi Brown Glitter Eyeliner in Silver ($20).

Last night was crazy! After the game we could hear loud booms off in the distance that I presumed were revelers detonating cherry bombs, or perhaps the start of that zombie invasion I’m always talking about.

I was ready to go into Apocalypse Mode and head for the hills! Survival kit? Check. El Hub, Tabs, emergency purse and this new Bobbi limited edition liquid liner? Check.

Why the liner? Ya know, because it’s nice to look good in the face of certain doom. 🙂

Glitter Eyeliner is part of the new Bobbi Brown Choose Your Glam collection for lips, eyes and cheeks.

While I’d like to have Bobbi’s Glitter Eyeliner in Silver with me in during a zombie outbreak — great pigment, a quick-drying liquid formula, reflective and therefore easy to spot from military helicopters surveying the area for survivors, waterproof but still easy to remove — it’s not altogether original.

Silver, one of two shades (the other being Gold), looks an awful lot like MAC Superslick Liquid Eye Liner in Nocturnal from fall’s Fabulous Felines collection — same shimmery silver, same style packaging, similar brush, same fantastically long wear time and thin texture.

I can’t say I’m too surprised, though, seeing as how Bobbi Brown and MAC are both owned by Estee Lauder. I mean, we’ve seen similar products across their lines before (see: the MAC Paint Pots and Estee Lauder Cream Shadows).

In this case, the Glitter Eyeliners cost a bit more than their counterparts at MAC ($20 vs. $17.50 for the MAC Superslicks), but if you missed Fabulous Felines the first time around, this could be a second chance.

Bobbi took quite a few risks this fall with the Denim & Rose and Black Velvet collections, but here she’s playing it safe, rolling out a fun, albeit not entirely original product. If you’re on the market for a long-wearing liquid liner and missed it the first time around, you’re in luck! 🙂

Burlesque is the new Glitter

Speaking of glitter, have you seen the previews of the upcoming Christina Aguilera/Cher flick, Burlesque? Man-oh-man, it looks like a hot mess. And I usually love Christina and Cher! I won’t be surprised if this movie turns out to be Xtina’s Glitter.

The story looks so totally cheese, but I gotta say Christina’s working a mad cute cat eye and red lip…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I know I’m years late to the Facebook party, but better late than never, right? I’ve had my account for a while, but I didn’t spend much time on it until last weekend. Yeah…it’s rather addictive, isn’t it? If you’re on Facebook, come say hi. 🙂

Are these liners exactly the same as the MAC ones? I wouldn’t be surprised if they were. Illamasqua also released liners that are exactly the same — same packaging, colors, wear, etc. Looks like all these companies bought the same product from the same company (like those ORLY/MAC polishes).

MAC has the cheapest price on them, and they’re perm, so theirs are probably the best bet.

Omg, the RSS feed for your blog isn’t updating! I was freaked out that no new posts were coming up lol.

This liner looks amazing for xmas or new years…or a girls night out! I’d probably pick up the gold though 😀

I’ve been well for the most part (minus insomnia…it blows :-(); I’m going to give sleepytime tea a try asap. My Tuesday is moving along slowly; work gave us a new dress code and I feel out of place in slacks and heels lol. Overall a good day, I should probably count my blessings instead of complaining about the little things! I haven’t seen snookified tabs recently, has the pouf been retired?

Insomnia totally blows. 🙁 I get it when “Aunt Flo” visits (and it’s getting worse as I get older). Refraining from coffee after noon, doing cardio, no computer one hour before bed and when worse comes to worse, a half an Ambien — all help.

Why did you guys get a new dress code? Was someone showing up to the office in a feather boa and clear stripper heels? LOL

Tabs has been going natural lately, LOL! I have a feeling he’ll want to switch it up soon — maybe some beachy waves?

I’ll have to try all of those things, I’m walking around like a zombie most of the time. I think mine is from stress…which causes me to clench my jaw in my sleep too. I should just win the lotto and take all of us beauty bloggers on a month long vacation to somewhere sunny and warm 😀

Our bosses decided that we were taking the casual part of “business casual” to heart lol. Now we have to dress up every day…it’s going to be a challenge!

Beachy waves with ombre coloring for Tabs, it’s so Brazilian lol!

I thought the same thing when I saw the trailer for “Burlesque” but I do love me some cheese, whether it be in my movies or some homemade nachos. My rear is not too happy with my dairy affinity. I didn’t know that MAC was owned by Estee Lauder too, what cosmetics line do they not own these days? I thought about getting the fluidline eyeliners but I had no money then. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll find them at the outlet stores when I make my yearly trek for deals after the holidays, I find a lot of decent MAC items there.

      Hi Rinnie,

A few companies they own off the top of my head — Bumble & Bumble, Smashbox, MAC, Bobbi Brown, American Beauty, Aveda, Clinique, DKNY, Jo Malone, La Mer…

Speaking of nachos, do you eat yours with salsa? I’ve been all about Trader Joe’s chips, shredded cheddar cheese and Pace Picante sauce lately.

        November 2nd, 2010 at 4:34 pm

Yup, gotta have some salsa picante on my nachos with a dollop of sour cream, just to make it calorically fantastic. Melt the cheese on the chips in the toaster oven then pour on the rest of the goodness. Because I’m still indoctrinating my BF into spicy food, I can’t go as hot as I like when I have to share(boo!). I like Trader Joe’s chips but Tostitos are my fav.

Haha, you and El Hub would probably get along fabulously. He LOVES spicy food. Seriously, he’s not happy until tears run down his face. When he’s clutching the table and rocking back and forth I know he’s “there.”

I didn’t know there were rumors about Christina and Samantha Ronson. I heard she and her husband were getting divorced, but never got around to reading about why it happened.

Whatever the case, I still think her voice is amazing!

Interesting that BB is a line that doesn’t sell out fast ’round your way. Is it because the colors are usually so muted?

    2. I wouldn’t be surprised if the liner was the exact same. Ibelieve i heard that Lancome had a liner just like it, but then their patent expired. Once a patent expires, it’s fair game for everyone. So no coincidence that all the major brands have come out with a similar liner. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they used the same manufacturer but just changed the packaging. Expiration of patents also help us get those cheaper generic drugs. =) I should stop here before I start on a whole post I should be doing for class. lol

      Hi Lo,

Do you ever wear black liquid cat eyeliner along the top lash line? You could always do a fat black line and then a really skinny silver line just along the lashes. It’s sparkly, but not over-the-top.
