My Favorite Travel Makeup Bag May Come as a Surprise

Freelance makeup artist Audrey of Makeup by Audrey takes her makeup with her on the road with help from the subjects of today’s guest post.

Here's the bag open

It’s the holidays, and for a lot of us that means hitting the airways or the road. I’ve been using the same makeup travel bag for a few years now, and I love it! Check it out (and I made sure to leave it nice and dirty to preserve the authenticity of its long lifespan of usage).

My favorite part of the bag: the built in brush holder. No need to carry a separate brush roll. It even has a protective flap to keep any makeup dust away from your products, and the brush slots come in different sizes to accommodate both face and eye brushes.

I like the way the whole thing is laid out. The three mesh pockets (two of them are zippered to keep the contents nice and secure) are set in just the right locations.

The entire bag also rolls up nicely and stays wrapped with an elastic band, so you can really stuff it with products.

I’m still amazed by how well this bag has held up over the years (knock on wood!)

Brushroll

You might be surprised by to find out that this amazing makeup bag comes to us from Mary Kay, and more amazing still is that it’s not actually sold on its own but rather as an accessory to their brush set.

The brushes themselves are just OK, definitely great for a starter set, but not quite the same quality as others I’ve used in the same price range (like Sigma brushes).

So, while I kinda-sorta like the brush set, I absolutely ADORE the makeup bag!

What’s a girl to do? The answer: get the whole set! 🙂 The brushes are still very versatile and nice for a separate travel kit.

Oh, if you don’t mind being a little sneaky, rumor has it you can sometimes find the makeup bag by itself on ebay.

Mary Kay Brush Collection, $48

So there’s my favorite travel makeup bag. How do you travel with your makeup?

This is brilliant! This would be ideal for all the travelling I’ve had to do lately. Atm I am so unorganized with a huge makeup bag and a seperate brush roll, not to mention my makeup products are lose in their bag which worries me. I’m going to be on the hunt for this I think!

Wow, I love the bag! I usually carry mine in a long MAC bag or tied together somehow in my train case lol.

My mom sold Mary Kay for a while so I recognized this bag immediately. I’ve been trying to take hers for a while now. LOL

Love your entry (and the bag)! I’m surprised you bring so little on your make-up bag. I was expecting that you had more! Now I need to reassess and cut down on what i bring with me.

Thanks, Mitch! Well, I also did bring the UD naked palette which doesn’t fit but other than that, it’s all in there! Yeah, I do try to minimize what I bring with me when I travel – same thing with shoes and stuff 🙂 Also, when I’m vacationing with family, I tend to do simple looks anyway which makes it easier 😀

I would get the bag, and give the brushes to a ‘beginner’ makeup friend (if one has one…)—good makeup bags are hard to find, imo 🙂

That’s a great idea! The brushes are perfect for a beginner! And I agree about the lack of good makeup bags… I’m surprised there aren’t more out there with built in brush rolls and stuff.

The travel bag looks great but the brushes are a bit of a letdown. I wish I could get the bag for cheaper and use my fave Crown brushes with them

If you are looking for this bag contact any Mary Kay beauty consultant and they will be happy get one to you. If you don’t already have a consultant go to http://www.marykay.com. At the top of the page click shop with an independent beauty consultant and you will be asked to put in your zip code. The company will direct you to a consultant in your area. FYI-Some consultants will give you this for free if you host a party for her (you plus 3 friends). Hope that helps!
