Was JK Jemma Kidd Eyeing MAC When They Created the Catwalk I-Kit?

Like the Dom Pérignon of drugstore makeup palettes, the $26 JK Jemma Kidd Catwalk I-Kit will set your holiday budget back, but you may not mind if you’re a lover of sheer shadows and/or the classic neutral colors across the way at MAC.

The kit comes with a single creamy eye primer, a pair of dual-tipped mini-brushes and eight shadows (two of them, the highlight shadows, share a single large pan), quite a few of which look like sheerer versions of staple MAC neutrals to me.

At least they picked great products to use for inspiration, right? 🙂

Shimmery taupe Editor reminds me of MAC Satin Taupe, shimmery golden beige Vintage of MAC All That Glitters and matte brown Vanity Fair reminds me of MAC Cork.

Swatches from left: Exclusive Eye Prep & Primer, I-Design Eye Colour in 01 Elle, I-Design Eye Colour in 02 Vogue

I-Design Eye Colour 05 in Editor, I-Design Eye Colour 03 in Vintage, I-Design Eye Colour 06 in Vanity Fair, I-Design Eye Colour 04 in In Season, Exclusive Eye Shadow in Aubergine Shimmer, Eclusive Shadow/Liner in Black

Expect to spend your spare time adding these in layers, especially if you’re shooting for a bold look. I’ve been using at least three layers to get the rich, intense pigment I find myself craving from these. If, however, you desire a less makeup-ey makeup look, these shades should do you just fine.

PRICE: $26
AVAILABILITY: Exclusively at Target stores and online at target.com

I think I saw this at Target. But I didn’t get it because, well, neutral shades rarely make me super excited. It’s the colorful stuff that makes me salivate. Know what I mean?

I always wear nude and natural make-up. And I totally adore this palette, and I would buy it if I didn’t have that much makeup.

Oh, how I wish I could justify spending $26 on this! I’m a sucker for neutral shadows. 🙂
But I prefer shadows with a bit more pigmentation. I’d just rather spend my time blending to make them sheerer, rather than spend it applying more layers.

      Hi Kerry,

You and me both! We need to start a club called TEAM NEUTRALS! 🙂

What neutral shadows are your faves?

I tend to favor gold shades. Right now, I’m loving the Wet ‘n’ Wild Color Icon palettes (Golden Goddess and Vanity). I can’t quite afford the Naked Palette or MAC shadows, but once I can, they better watch out! 😀

What shades do you really like?

weirdly busy! i always say work dies down in december but for some reason, this year it just keeps on getting busier and busier!

I know so many girls who can’t live without Satin Taupe. 🙂 Have you ever tried smudging it on top of a black liner? It’s so pretty!

I love the look of this, but I’m too lazy to have to add 3 layers to get pigmentation!
I’m a neutral gal too, with a weakness for teals and greens. 🙂

It does look very pretty but I NEED PIGMENT!!

I also love neutrals. My favourites are MAC Copperplate e/s, MAC Mauvement e/s, Smashbox Minx e/x, and Benefit creaseless cream shadow in Skinny Jeans…

These are some really nice neutral shades, and I definitely prefer the pinkie neutrals on me. I’m pretty set for shadows right now, but you’ll be proud to know that I have some MAC brushes, Strobe Cream, concealer and a highlighter on my wish list this year. My family is kind of like “huh?”. 🙂

Oh, and sorry, while I’m thinking of it. Would you recommend High Beam or Moon Beam for me? I’m like NC Casper the Ghost. 🙂 Actually, I think my Laura M tinted moisturizer is porcelain (or whatever the lightest color is). Thanks!

Oooh, I love neutrals, including taupes, although these look a little more purple-y than a usually prefer. How well does the primer work? Will I need to substitute Shadow Insurance in?
