According to Sonia Kashuk, When It Comes to Eyes, What Glitters Glows

OMG! Have you heard about the party at Target?! Well, not at Target. It’s more inside Target, down by the cosmetics aisle, right in front of the Sonia Kashuk display.

Just look for the disco ball…packaging for Sonia’s limited edition What Glitters Glows Eye Palette ($15).

If it looks familiar… If it looks familiar (déjà vu!), you may be recalling last year’s Starry Eyes Palette, which also had big pans of shadow like these and came in similar packaging. Oh, and it had the same price ($15).

Sonia Kashuk What Glitters Glows Eye Palette

For this palette, Sonia swapped out the three cool-toned, smooth and pigmented mattes from Starry Eyes with three dynamic, neutral-toned shadows with a fascinating combination of matte/glitter finish.

I can’t believe the gray, black and brown shadows in the bottom row are available at Target, because they seem like higher end department store material to me. They come in a matte base that’s pigmented, yet still soft and easy to blend, and they’re infused with subtle flecks of sophisticated black-tie glitter (as opposed to 1996 rave glitter), which reminds me: did you ever dance with a glow stick at a rave? Yup, good times…

So I think it you like your glitter on the subtle side, like glitter good for understated holiday party looks, the shadows in the bottom row might appeal to you.

Now, the shadows in the top row turn the glitter up a notch, but in a weird way. The flecks are supersized, but they’re within sheer bases (which makes me wonder, “what’s the point?”).

They remind me of the Sonia’s Fall 2010’s Brown Eyed Girl Palette, with their oversized glitter flecks in sheer bases. The gray, white and gold here look almost alike on my tan skin, and I think these are shadows that ladies with lighter skin, upon which the subtle differences among the shades will stand out more, might adore.

Even though I’m not in love with the glitters in the top row, I think Sonia did well with this palette. I like having variety when it comes to glitter, and I think the colors in the bottom row could work on a wide range of skin tones.

Now I just need an invitation to a holiday party and enough time to get ready. 🙂

PRICE: $15

Do you hear that…?

I was driving to the grocery store the other day when I caught this great song (well, I like it) on the radio.

It’s called Dog Days Are Over, by a band named Florence and the Machine. I guess it’s not new, although it’s new to me, and was featured on Glee.

I love how it alternates between mellow and intense, and then just goes absolutely buck wild in the last minute!

What have you been listening to this week? Got any new tunes for me? 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That song has been playing on my iPod nonstop (along with Mumford and Son’s “Little Lion Man” – although beware, Mumford and Son used the f-bomb liberally in the song).

Florence + the Machine even has a section on the Smashbox site – a set inspired by her.

I was just reading this post, thinking, “Oh, that’s a nice palette,” when BAM FLORENCE. I love her/them.

Karen (and all my fellow commenters), you should check out her/their album, “Lungs.” It’s incredible, in my humble opinion.

I love the dog days are over!

my fav song right now is “black sheep” by Metric – emily haynes (the lead singer) wrote it for the movie scott pilgrim versus the world. the movie version sung by brie larson is pretty awesome too!

Metric’s an awesome band if you love kick-ass girls!

The ones in the bottom row are nicely pigmented! The top ones though…

Those dark colors look amazing, and I suppose the paler shades would be nice layered on top of a more saturated base.

As for tunes I’m loving right now — well, tis the season and I can’t get enough of Annie Lennox’s Christmas Cornucopia CD. For a great non-holiday tune I’m adoring Grace Potter and the Nocturnal’s song “Paris” — just a great kick-@ss rock song.

It says somewhere on the back of the package that 3 of the shades are eyeliners so maybe you could use the heavier glitter like that and it would show up with a hint of color. They are all pretty similar though but I’m in love with the overall packaging – The thing is so cute looking all closed up and for 3 decent shades and a few highlighters its all worth it! I got my mom one as a stocking stuffer.

Oh how are the holiday brushes? Has anyone bought these? Any sets worth getting? The one box I saw in Target looked a little cheesy and the brushes had some stray hairs so I figured that I wouldn’t get it until I saw some reviews. Usually her brushes are awesome but these looked like they might not be – the silver bristles got me thinking that they might not be as fantastic as some of her other stuff

hhrrrrm…. Not sure I’m a fan. I really wish those top colors were more pigmented. Sad face!

I’d never heard of Florence and the Machine, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I might get that CD for Christmas… not that my brother’s not god at keeping secrets or asking non-obvious questions, but. 🙂

Love the bottom row of the palatte – maybe I’ll get it and share with my 15 year old – she can have the sheer glitters!

I think I was literally hopping in my chair when I saw this. I’m such a sucker for silver, white and glitter. 🙂 They do look pretty sheer, but I’m basically see-through, so that might work out OK. For 15 bucks, I’ll take the chance. Plus, a disco ball? Target, here I come. 🙂

The song is new to me too. I’ll close my door and give it a listen at lunch time! We’re having our work xmas party today so I don’t think anyone will be too distracted.

PS Is Tabs still interested in your tree? Sophie hasn’t broken an ornament in a couple of days so maybe she has decided to behave after the tree-toppling. Probably not. 🙂
