MAC Fix+ Lavender Setting Spray Makes Your Makeup Behave

December 23rd, 2010 by Karen 31 Comments

mac fix+ lavender

Since I like MAC Fix+ and the scent of lavender, falling for the new MAC Fix+ Lavender ($18, part of the upcoming MAC Cham Pale Collection) was sort of a given.

Or was it?

I use the original Fix+ almost daily with foundation, lightly misting my brush with it before blending to help products adhere to my skin, and I was hoping this latest scented version would smell just as light, refreshing and feminine as both the original and 2009’s limited edition Fix+ Rose.

A MAC Fix+ It Tip

This effect’s even better in the summer, but I like to store my bottle of Fix+ in the fridge; the mist feels gloriously refreshing chilled.

A colorless infusion of water, glycerin, vitamins and minerals, Fix+ Lavender seems to work just as well as the original, but the vanilla-ish lavender scent just doesn’t get along with my sensitive schnoz. Heavy and musky — almost like a men’s cologne — the scent makes my head pulse if I’m not careful about how much I use. Luckily, the fragrance dissipates in no time flat.

Give it a try when you can (particularly if you like masculine scents).

I love Fix+ Rose! I’m kinda kicking myself now for not getting a back up bottle. Hopefully MAC will re-release it.

Would you believe I just got back from the mall? I thought it was gonna be nuts but it wasn’t too crazy.

youre impressive – going to the mall today!

we went to a fancy schmancy grocery store and got some see’s candy and kettle corn. we also snuck into barnes and noble and i got 2 books that seem promising. theyre by markus zusak and one is called the book thief and the other is i am the messenger. yep theyre from the young adult section! 😀

sometimes those fix+ rose pop up at CCOs. ill check ours out next week – were going shirt shopping for the hubs and you know i have to pop into the CCO!

Karen – I have oily-combination skin..would this be an okay product for me to use? My friend just loves this, but she has dry skin, so was wondering if I should buy it or not..

      Hi Radhika,

I use it on my oily spots (forehead and nose) and don’t seem to have any problems. You might want to hold the product farther away from your face so that it mists on evenly — I’ve noticed that if I hold it too close I can feel a film on my skin.

I love the scent of lavender, but I’ll definitely have to spritz some of it in-store to see if it’s too much for me, too. I can’t take too much in the way of over-powering smells or I start to get a headache.

Me too. I had a killer one after I sprayed this, so maybe try it on a piece of paper first.

I’m so disappointed 🙁 I’ve been waiting for this since I first heard about the Cham Pale collection – why doesn’t it smell like Lavender?? Like I want to spritz cologne on my face! Haha…thank goodness I purchased a back-up of Fix+Rose 🙂 Love that stuff!

I looooove Fix+ Rose to pieces and regret not buying a backup. 🙁

Hopefully they’ll bring it back sometime soon.

Bleh! I’m not a lavender fan *at all*, so this sounds terrible to me! :p It’s funny how many lavender-based things end up smelling so masculine — you’d think they’d make them more feminine, if anything!

I don’t mind lavender if it’s mixed with more feminine notes. This was way to manly for me!

i want to try fix but NOT a lavender-esque scent…freaking hate floral scents for the most part. vanilla though, i could play around with that! but not if it’s all manly smelling :-/

hmm… i wasn’t interested in this because i don’t like lavender but vanilla AND lavender, i can handle. that said, i’ve got a pretty sensitive nose, too.

i have to say the whole concept is kind of intriguing, though. i’ll definitely have to check it out now 🙂

I usually like the smell of lavender, so that’s disappointing. I’ve been wanting to try MAC’s Fix+ for a while now, maybe I’ll just go for the regular one.

This reminds me of the Model in a Bottle that Oprah recommended years ago. It was perfumey but my makeup actually stayed. I didn’t know there were comparable products still… may have to pick this up!

Wow! And I thought the original Fix that I recently bought was highly scented. I’ve used it a couple of times now & it works great at “thinning” out my foundation. Good suggestion to put it in the fridge!

Too bad this one doesn’t have a true lavender scent or else it’d be a “must-have” for me.
