Would You Say the New Chanel Black Pearl, Pearl Drop and Peche Nacree Nail Polishes Live Up to the Hype?

December 23rd, 2010 by Karen 52 Comments

Chanel Black Pearl Peche Nacree Pearl Drop

Merry Christmas Eve-Eve! Christmas came early! I braved the mall today to peep the new Les Perles de Chanel spring collection up close and personal. Yup, to say “the mall was crowded” would be like saying “I like Chanel.” Duh.

I think the last time I was at a mall two days before Christmas was when my friend Jen and I both worked together at The Limited in 1994 (I hawked a lot of ugly purse wallets, yo). Ah, memories…

I couldn’t wait to see the three new limited edition Le Vernis Nail Colours — Black Pearl, Pearl Drop and Peche Nacree ($23 each). There’s been some serious brouhaha about ’em, especially Black Pearl (is that Jack Sparrow?!), which has been hyped as Chanel’s next big thing.

Take a look, and let me know if you think they’re worthy of the buzz. 🙂

The textures seem user-friendlier (is that a word?) than usual for Chanel polishes. I think these are a little thinner, and they seem easier to apply.

But even thinner, they’re still quite pigmented. Black pearl, a shimmery grayish green with teal micro glitter, and Pearl Drop, a shimmery golden beige with a hint of peach, appear completely opaque on my nails after two coats. Peche Nacree, a sheer peach with silver micro glitter, takes three.

I think Black Pearl’s my favorite of the three (LOVE the teal micro glitter), with Pearl Drop coming in a close second (the peach really comes through in bright light), and while wearable Peche Nacree looks perfect for spring, it doesn’t go gangbusters like the other two.

Today I had to take another look at the Regarde Perle quad from the collection because it was reminding me of something here. Check it out: the new polishes echo the grayish green, golden beige and peach eyeshadows from the palette. Isn’t that cool?

I haven’t been wearing the polishes long enough to be able to gauge wear time, but I hope the slightly thinner formula lasts as long as Chanel’s other polishes (at least five to seven days if worn with good base and top coats).

They lose points for being so expensive, but if you love Chanel and deserve a treat, they might be worth a splurge (especially for Black Pearl!).

PRICE: $23 each for a 0.4-oz. bottle
AVAILABILITY: At Chanel boutiques, counters and chanel.com

T-Money at da club

This is how Tabs looks when he fist pumps, Jersey Shore-style.

I listened to a scary amount of house music today, and Tabs was sooo not into it. He’s more of drum and bass kinda cat. LOL!

Hope you had a great day. Do you feel festive yet? Two more sleeps till Christmas!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

OHHH Black Pearl is so gorgeous. It’s sort of understated but interesting at the same time…just like Chanel always does it. I think they should have an after-Christmas sale on these hahah, is that asking for a little too much?

Excuse me while I pick up my jaw from the floor…

Black Pearl is stunning in every single swatch I see of it. But, if I were to save my moneyz (with a z) for something in this collection, I should put it towards the quint, right?

I’m still undecided on the nail lacquers. I want to like them, but they’re just not moving me (unlike Paradoxal which made me almost squeal with excitement). I may just have to check them out up close and personal.

I bought all three when they became available on Chanel.com. I like Pearl Drop well enough though I like Essie’s Sequin Sash better. I don’t think Black Pearl and Peche Nacree are worth the hype. The Khakis were so much better.

I got off work early Wednesday. I completed some Christmas shopping then hopped to Nordstrom before picking up my daughter just to see if the new collection came in. The SA told me the week before to expect it right before XMAS – well it was my lucky day. The tester display was up and there were little nail polish boxes of Black Pearl polish just sitting there waiting for me!

I can’t wait to paint my nails with this. I also picked up an eyeliner I have been obsessing over for a few months – Black Jade. Yes, I am a bit obsessed with the blackened teals lately!

I looove Black Pearl partly because every time I see it I feel the need to bust out a Jack Sparrow accent.

I loves me some Chanel, but I think I’ll skip Black Pearl since I got LM Caviar Dreams a couple of years ago. It’s not a dupe, but it’s pretty close and even though I love the color, I hardly ever wear it!

    Happy happy Christmas eve! 🙂

I got all 3 of them I really like Black Pearl and the Peach one. I am having trouble with the Pearl Drop one. I want to love it so much and it looks beautiful on your pictures. On me it seems so yellow looking and it reminds me of yellow teeth It looks so white on you. I am bummed because I think I have to return mine and I want to love it so much
