NYC New York Color Extreme Lip Glider Lip Gloss, I Question Your Taste

January 10th, 2011 by Karen 38 Comments

NYC New York Color Extreme Lip Glider Lip Gloss in Plaza Punch

Just another shiny drugstore gloss? Not hardly. These NYC New York Color Extreme Glider Lip Glosses feel way more expensive than they should for $3 each. Smooth, thin and slick on my lips, they could almost pass for melted butter if it wasn’t for one little thing…

Butter tastes good. 🙂

I’ve tried three of the 10 shades, and all of them taste and smell like a strong blend of children’s cough syrup and fruit punch concentrate; luckily, it dissipates after a few minutes of wear.

Coverage varies widely among the colors, with some of them, like Downtown Brown and Metro Mauve, applying so sheer that I can barely see any pigment on my lips, while others, like Plaza Punch, have plenty of pigment to spare.

The three I have contain glitter, which looks kinda chunky in the tube, so I expected them to feel gritty, but they don’t. In fact, they could probably pass for MAC Lipgelées (LOVE) if not for the flavor and scent…

I get about two hours of wear time from these, which isn’t bad considering the price. If you like smooth, non-sticky, glittery glosses that won’t break the bank (and can get over the questionable combination of flavor and scent), consider giving these Extreme Lip Gliders a try.

PRICE: $3
AVAILABILITY: At select drugstores (I found them at Target)

P.S. Yikes! It’s 11 already? Where did my Monday go? I think it’s time for this tire kitten to hit the haaaaay! See you soon. Sleep well. 🙂

Whenever I hear a gloss has a bad taste to it, I automatically make the “yuck face” where one eye winks shut & my whole face puckers.

If you get the chance you might want to smell ’em anyways just to see… my sense of smell is pretty sensitive!

They have some things that are really good AND they’re cruelty free!:)

When you’re at the drugstore also check out their cream blush sticks!

Omg metro mauve is so prettyyy. I really like the nude-ish colors.. Especially during the winter i don’t like to wear lipsticks. So i alwaya skip on to my nude lips with vaseline or a pretty nude lipgloss like these!

For $3, I would probably give this a try. I like the Metro Mauve color the best. I’d probably keep this at my desk at work as a back-up gloss.

i hate a shitty scented lip product. rimmel makes some great lipsticks but that terrible melon scent makes them almost unusable.

I don’t mind scented things as long as they don’t smell totally artificial. Have you smelled the NYX ones? Now those I can’t hang with.

So you’ll probably laugh, but I never quite got the allure of butter until I had really salty French butter last year. After that first hunk on some fresh bread…

      I TOTALLY GOT IT!

      LOL!

Haha. That’s my favorite way to have butter. There’s a farmstand near my house that sells butter made by some Amish people. I can only get it during the summer, and it’s the best butter I’ve ever had.
I need to go make dinner. I think I’ll have bread & butter, lol

No, I didn’t. I only knew that they were owned by Del Labs (same people who own the Lacross impelement/Sally Hansen lines and Corn Silk). I never paid too much attention but thought the NYC stuff was mostly cheap-and-cheerful. I’m reconsidering after this!

I can’t stand slanted tip applicators so these will be a skip for me. Pretty colors, though!

I don’t mind them so much when they’re narrow like these. It’s the wide ones that give me some trubs…

Anywho, how’s your week going so far?

I always get that “spillover” of gloss over the tip’s edge when I apply it directly to my lips. If I squeeze some onto my fingertip it’s not so bad but I generally don’t like doing that either.

Week is going ok – it’s snowing like crazy outside & it’s not supposed to stop until 8pm! How’s yours?

PS: My birrrrrrthday is Sunday! 😀 Going to have some “girl time” Saturday night to celebrate.

I am a sucker for brown shades, so I may spring for Downtown Brown. The trouble for me is that glosses look really pretty, but I buy them, never wear them, and then transfer them to my pro kit. It seems that I like the idea of lip gloss more than I like actually wearing them.

I just got one and I really like it, China Town Cherry. I actually like the scent, reminds me of Jolly Rancher candies 😀 I think I’ll swipe up Riveside Rouge, Plaza Punch and maybe Metro Mauve. For $3-$4CND it’s a nice, cheap thrill (though I also think the quality far surpasses the price tag)
