Is the NYX Haute Model 10-Color Palette a Perfect 10?

January 13th, 2011 by Karen 45 Comments

If NYX had their druthers, we’d all be shimmering like angelic fiends right about now. Their budget conscious 10-Color Palette in Haute Model ($11), one of four new palettes in the extensive 10-Color Palette line, houses a bevy of bestselling NYX shadows in dark green, blue, purple, gray and bronze, as well as two lighter pops of pink and teal.

The lighter shades seemed out of place to me at first, but I wouldn’t turn them away. Now I like the nice contrast they provide.

The shadows in this bargain beauty have a bold, hi-shine finish that demands attention, and every one, with the exception of the pink in the top row, apply with NYX’s signature buttery texture (the pink doesn’t feel as finely milled as the others to me).

Er, not sure what’s going on here…

I’m not crazy that NYX recently raised the price of the 10-Color Palettes (they went from $9.75 to $11), but I think they’re still a great deal. Considering the number and quality of colors and the variety in each, $11 isn’t bad.

I love the colors when swatched on your skin but,on the lighter (which is like my skin) skin I don’t love it.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I think this is one of those palettes that really shines on darker skin. Lighter beauties could probably rock it if used with a light touch…

      Ditto.
The beautiful dark neutrals show up on Karen’s skin but seem to all be way too similar on the NW20 skin (which is my tone) also they look sort of muddy on light tones.

Thanks for doing swatches on different skin tones.

Let me jump on this bandwagon. I loved the looks of this as I was scrolling through until I got to the paler skin, more like mine, swatches. Its gorgeous on you, but you just saved me the trouble of trying this. Thanks!

I vote that you get that teal up in the mix. It’s my fave color outta the bunch.

Let me know what kind of look you end up doing!

today, i used the teal all over my lid (sparingly) and blended it out with that gray right on top of it.

then i used siahi as eyeliner. i think im in <33333

I always want to find these Nyx shadows and it has never happened. Ulta never has these pretty ones that are blogged so highly about and neither does CVS. Has anyone else had this problem or has had luck finding them?

Pretty! I love the pop of turquoise.

Random question: Does the NW20 skin belong to El Hub? Because I just picture you smearing eyeshadows all over a guy, and it’s pretty funny. And if it is, he’s a really good sport haha.

Hahahaha I was just thinking the same thing!
These look so much better on your skin tone than on the lighter one, I’m jealous. The shimmer really comes through for you and just looks kind of muddy on NC20.

I can’t believe what a difference your skin tone makes with this palette! It’s totally gorgeous on you! Reminds me a little of the issue I am having with MAC’s Cham Pale paint pots. Vintage Selection turns totally shimmer on me with none of the light plum others get. Hmmm

Hmm. How about using it as a base and then layering a sheer, shimmery plum on the lid/and or crease?

I always think that NYX’s eye palettes look interesting but haven’t give them a shot- the colors look nice and pigmented, though! I may try one of their palettes in different colors now; I’m also on the pale side and agree that these colors look way better on your skin!

Very pretty! I love how your hubs is the arm model 😉 I wonder why the NYX never have a rhyme or reason with their color selection. They always look like a jumble of colors to me.

I like the NYX palettes but I’m over the gray ones — they seem to do a LOT of gray for some reason.

The colour schemes always seem all over the place in the NYX ten shade palettes. I would appreciate a little more cohesion…seems like they just throw random shades in there with out much thought. I think most of these colours would look too muddy on my skin.

They always have a lot of those NYX pallets in the local discount brands store near my work (in central London) so I may just pick one up next time I’m there! I totally agree that these particular ones look better on the darker skin tone than the lighter.

When me and my bloke moved in together we both had our own cats (both are about 9 years old), so I had my kitty stay with a friend while the three of us (me, bloke, and his kitty) got used to each other and then, a few months down the line, we introduced them slowly (we kept them in separate parts of the house and only allowed them to come in to contact with each other if they were supervised). After a few days they were fine – they didn’t fight or anything, just ignored each other – and now they love each other and sleep together on the bed, and kiss noses. Although they are the same age it was similar to introducing a kitten as my cat was a rescue cat and has stunted growth, so is tiny like a kitten, and also has the energy (and stupidity- but in a delightful way!) of a kitten, whereas the blokes cat is a giant black furry boy cat.
