Sundays with Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Vol. 123

January 23rd, 2011 by Karen 50 Comments

Tabs must’ve been up late last night on the computer, because when I got up this morning I noticed some new bookmarks of kitties with lion cuts.

Have you heard about this? Apparently, it’s the hottest thing in the feline modeling community.

He mentioned a few days ago that he wanted to change his look… I dunno, I like his fur the way it is.

Should Tabs get a lion cut?

Haha, I call my dog my little lion sometimes because the fur around his neck grows faster and gets curly and looks like a mane! I think you should go for it if Tabs wants it 🙂

How cute! Is he part collie? They kinda look like they’ve got manes…

If Tabs asks me to take him to the stylist I won’t say no!

He’s a mutt! He def has some springer spaniel and must have some larger breed in the mix since he’s like 60 lbs.

I know that feeling. I can’t believe Tabs is turning 6! 🙁 El Hub and I used to joke that we lived with “a college student” and now Tabs is moving toward middle age. I wish our pets could stay with us forever.

A woman I used to work with had to do that to her Maine Coon cats in the summer because it was so bloody hot. I swear the cats knew there was just no dignity in that look!

I don’t know of any reason to subject a poor kitty to these haircuts.Unless it’s for medical reasons.

My friend’s cat has a lion cut, and it is adorable :). However, it is also totally necessary because this cat is so large and furry that he can’t clean himself properly (this can result in a lot of unpleasantness for both him and his owners).

It would explain so much. Missy is always anxious for me to leave the room where the computer is located at the end of the evening. She’ll jump in my lap and keep me from typing, and then follow me into the bedroom to make sure I’m settling in for the night.

We used to get my cat groomed like that.

She looked beyond cute like that. We had it done because she’s got very long hair and we’re all allergic to cats!

Unfortunately, because of money we had to stop getting her groomed. (Though, in my opinion, the money we would save from lint rollers would make up for it!)

If Tabs does decide to get a new look, his fur will always grow out if he doesn’t like it. 🙂

On the other hand, I remember when Scherbie had the shaved belly and it was really nice to kiss. If you’re a belleh kisser I’d consider the lion cut for Tabs. 😛

I got lion cuts for both of my cats one time, because they seemed so miserable in the CA desert summer. I have to admit, I thought it was stinkin’ adorable! And they didn’t seem to mind.

And can I just say, Rosie – “doodles on her bloomers” may be the best quote I’ve heard in ages!

Oh, my! I’ll bet the kitties love sitting still for these cuts. Sort of like they’d love to be taken for a nice swim. 🙂 This is the first I’m seeing of the lion cut for cats since, where we live, they’re all wishing they had MORE fur. PS Minus 22 F today. 🙂

I got my long haired kitty a lion cut twice. But that was only in the hot hot hot summer time and it kept her from overheating. I see no reason to give a short haired kitty a lion cut. Also, my kitties cut was more tapered at the legs so it didn’t look like she was wearing boots. 😛

Lion cuts are really cute, but usually only really fluffy kitties need them. We used to give my old Himalayan kitty Snowflake (rip) a lion cut every summer, and she loved it! If Tabs gets really hot in the summer, maybe it would be worth getting him one :).

We had a long-haired cat that matted a lot. When the mats got too bad we had to have him shaved. He hated it. We hated it. I wouldn’t do that unless I had to. I love the fur on a cat.

I used to get them for my 2 cats because I was allergic to the hair and this really helped with the shedding. They looked super cute, the only problem was that they didn’t recognize each other after and they hissed at each for the first week.

I have a Norweigian Forest cat (similar to a Maine Coon) and I’m thinking of giving her a lion cut this coming summer since I don’t have ac. She was so hot last summer and would pant after playtime.

    I think it’s really goofy-looking, but I don’t want an over-heated kitteh!

I think you should let him try it! If he doesn’t like it, it will grow back. Of course, that’s how I am with my own hair so I may be biased. Our hair is one of our best accessories. I love trying out new styles and colors.

You may as well let Tabs have fun! I am trying to talk my husband into it, but he doesn’t seem to be going for it. As sick as this is, I love the smell of a cats skin. Like after the skin is shaved for something like an ultrasound or xray, I love smelling it! I know. Its strange. *blush*

Our two Maine Coons would do horrible things to us if we even considered doing this to them. They’re indoor cats so they don’t have to suffer summer heat.

Other than for medical or hygiene reasons I can’t imagine what would posses anyone to do this to their poor kitty.

We have two shelter kitties. I would never shave a cat. How degrading. I think people that shave their cats are nuts!!! Although I did have a Maine Coon cat, and it was tough keeping her clean. I still wouldn’t have shaved her, ever.

Lol, I just had to shave my cat’s chin & a bit of her top lip, because she has blackheads again. She’s so not happy with me right now. I blame the plastic kitty water fountain I tried out for her, because ever since then, she breaks out like her mommy. 🙁

Don’t shave Tabs. He’s handsome just the way he is. A fluffy kitty is a happy kitty.
