Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Finish Concealer Draws Dark Circles Away

February 11th, 2011 by Karen 37 Comments

dolce gabbana perfect finish concealer review
Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Finish Concealer in shades 3 (the lighter shade) and 4 (the darker shade)

I’ve been looking forward to trying the new Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Finish Concealer ($35) since last fall, when I heard makeup artist Pat McGrath gush about how well it handles dark circles.

Available in four shades, the new line of liquid concealers features a twist-up pen kinda like the one from YSL’s Touche Eclat. Billed as three products in one, Perfect Finish is supposed to conceal imperfections on the skin while brightening and conditioning the skin with vitamin E.

So how does it do?

Not too shabby, tabby. I mainly use concealer to cover my purplish dark circles (damn you, insomnia!). In Perfect Finish, I’ve been using shade 3, applying the product with the attached brush under my eyes and blending out the edges with a finger.

It behaves like my go-to concealer of the moment, MAC Pro Longwear. Like Pro Longwear, it’s highly pigmented, offers full coverage and has a satin finish that doesn’t appear heavy on cakey on the skin, even applied in multiple layers. I also like the subtle brightening effect.

One thing I prefer about Perfect Finish over MAC Pro Longwear is the packaging. MAC uses a hairtrigger glass bottle for Longwear that’s a pain in the you-know-what. PF’s pen makes it more convenient for travel and touchups on-the-go.

But when it comes to price and shade selection, $18 Pro Longwear, which comes in 16 shades, has the $35 Perfect Finish beat (it’s available in just four shades).

Perfect Finish is not-so-perfectly pricey, and if it weren’t so expensive, I’d be crushing hard.

PRICE: $35
AVAILABILITY: At select Saks Fifth Avenue stores and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

You might like Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Finish Concealer if…

  • You’re looking for a full-coverage concealer
  • You don’t mind paying top dollar for the convenience of a pen
  • You’re lucky enough to be a match for one of the four available shades

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

      LOL “holy mother of pearl.”

Wouldn’t it be awesome if it was half the price? LE SIGH!

It does a great job! But it is a bit pricey, although I am willing to pay for anything that covers my horrible dark circles. Did you know that Milani makes a similar product?

I did! I tried it and it didn’t cover squat for me, unfortunately.

The packaging is so pretty, would love to try shade 4. The YSL pen didn’t really work for my dark circles – not when used alone anyway.

Ysl is a higlightrr even though everyone uses it as concealer.

I know some people who swear by it… I think their dark circles aren’t too bad, though.

Maygan – That is true 🙂

I think the people it works for..they might be just needing a bit of highlighting and not a proper concealing.

    TGIF indeed ….

i just got back from grocery shopping. ive been fitting that into my friday lunch break so i can avoid the weekend crowds 🙂

that concealer looks like it does a grat job, and its slightly cheaper than another brand that ive been eyeballing @ sephora. i might give this a shot, mostly because there are times when i need a “wetter” product than my fave concealer, time balm. 🙂

I know what you mean. Time Balm is great, but I find when my under eyes are really, really dry a wetter formula seems to be better.

What concealer are you thinking about getting?

Wow, that did a good job. You can’t even tell you have it on, other than the fact that there are ZERO dark circles. Too bad about the price and the lack of colors, though.

I like the idea but you still have to use a brush or your fingers to blend the concealer.. so why then the brushapplication?!

I always wonder, how do you keep the brush applicator part from getting too germ infested? I just bought a concealer which is packaged like that too, and now I’m getting worried that I will never be able to clean it XD

There is nothing like Eve Pearl Salmon concealer. Even Bobbi Brown Correctors do a great job in hiding really dark circles. I dont even need to put concealer on top, just a bit of powder and it works like a charm. I am NC42 and both makes have colours for every skin tone I use YSL touche eclat as a highlighter/ concealer around my nose, marionette lines, inside corner of my eyes but probably won’t re buy as the above concealers do such a good job.

Dolce and Gabanna has a lot of hit-or-miss products, so I was too scared to drop $35 bucks on a concealer from them not knowing which it was. Thanks for the review. I’m gonna stick with MAC. =]

I havent found a concealer thats better than this Dolce and Gabbana one-honestly the best ever for me and I have huge problems with dark circles. Also as its waterproof I use it on my eye area as a base for eye colour. Others Ive used tend to make my lines look worse but this one moisturises and smoothes them a way. Am totally addicted.

Oooh, it looks great! So, which is more moisturizing — this or Pro Longwear? My under eye area is just as dry as it is dark. I’m like a panda who layers Aquaphor below her eyes when she goes to bed, except with a lot less fur…lol

Pro Longwear by just a touch. This one is slighter drier in consistency.
