These New LipSurgence Natural Lip Lusters Are Giving Me a Tarte Attack

You know how they say that every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings? Well, every time I take out a Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Luster, a drag queen cheers and whips out two snaps in a circle. 🙂

The six new moisturizing lusters ($24 each) are souped-up versions of Tarte’s best-selling LipSurgence Lip Tints with punchier pigmentation and a finish so shiny (I gotta wear shades).

In the plus column, I really like that these pencil tips are twisties, because I don’t like having to tote around a sharpener (ahem, I’m talkin’ to you, NARS Velvet Gloss).

I also tip my hat to Tarte for keeping a lot of the common lip gunk out of these, like formaldehyde-based preservatives. They’re also gluten, oil, talc and MEA/DEA/TEA-free. And because they’re also cruelty-free, Tabs gives his husky-pawed kitty stamp of approval.

I’ve been wearing shimmery red Fever, shimmery light pink Adored and shimmery nude Buff on and off for about a week so far, and they have an almost lip balmy, non-sticky texture that feels thick and smooth. I like it, and I also dig their light peppermint flavor and scent, which, for the record, fades pretty quickly. That’s something the colors themselves don’t do, however; they last about three hours on my lips.

Persnickety moment: Check out how Tarte describes their so-called “LipSurgence technology”:

The old meets the new with the infusion of our high-performance natural LipSurgence technology which is clinically proven to increase moisture content by an astonishing 6000%. This proprietary blend effectively increases skin’s water content for a ‘plumped up’ appearance leaving lips defined, smoothed and hydrated.

Um, 6,000%? I don’t know — that’s an awfully big number, and I haven’t really noticed much of a plumping effect yet… I do feel they’re moisturizing, but I’m gonna go with 5,225% instead. 🙂 But seriously, they don’t dry out my lips, so that’s good.

Crazy claims aside, I like the new Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Lusters and find myself reaching for them all the time. If you’re searching for a moisturizing, non-sticky lip product that offers the finish of a shimmery, shiny gloss, consider paying them a visit on your next trip to Sephora.

PRICE: $24 each for a 0.10-oz twist-up pencil

The Game!

So I’ve been dying to tell you about my new favorite show! It’s a half-hour BET sitcom called The Game about a group of pro football players who play for the made up San Diego Sabers. It’s not just about the players, though. It also about their girlfriends, families and wives.

I remember reading a good review of it in Entertainment Weekly a while back, so last week I Tivo’d an episode on a whim. Two episodes later I was hooked! I think the writing’s actually surprisingly smart for what it is, with the characters being pushed into sometimes serious, complex (sitcom) situations.

Even El Hub likes it (the parts about football help). NOTE: In case you have kiddies, there’s some naughty language that gets bleeped out, and it’s chock full o’ “suggestive situations.”

Anywho, that’s my show to share. What have you been watching lately?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Love these! I already love their Matte LipSurgence Lip Stains and these ones are just as amazing. They last pretty long for the size, I still haven’t even finished half of my first one and I used to wear it everyday last month!

How would you say the Clinique chubby sticks hold up compared to these?

      Hi Rosie,

I’d say they have comparable textures and weartimes. The Clinique ones seem a touch more sheer…

Wow. Fire is one of the prettiest lip shades I’ve seen on your skin. You should definitely keep wearing that one!
I just wish I could find a more affordable alternative. $24 is a bit steep. 🙁

QVC ladies! I somehow got sucked into an hour long show all about Tarte before Christmas, I don’t normally sit at home watching home shopping 🙂 Seriously. I ordered a set of 3 of the Lip Surgence Natural Lip Tints for $30 with shipping, that means only $10 each. The specials are only during the show, because now the same set is $38 on their website. Just looked Tarte will be back on again Monday, March 14.

All of the shades for Tarte’s Lip Lusters does though. I think I like Pouty the best. No wait, maybe Fever!

I have seen a few episodes of “The Game” and was quite impressed, to my surprise. The blonde actress, Brittany Daniel, is from my city (Gainesville, FL) It’s fun to watch someone with local ties on “big time” TV!

LOVE The Game!!! Too bad I can never catch it at the right time. Ugh. It’s really neat how Brittany Daniel and Tia or Tamera Mowry (don’t know which twin it is!) both have a twin sister. Brittany Daniel was on Sweet Valley TV show back in the day, too. Both twin sets are hot!

OK, Fever looks fabulous on you. Seriously, what a good color. I think I’m falling in love with everything Tarte, and even their ridiculous claims seem cheeky in an “oh, you and your silly claims…” kind of way. I like moisturizing and I love the look of these. Thank goodness for my “look away” mantra! 🙂
