Haute Stuff Coming Through! The New Givenchy Naivement Couture Collection for Spring/Summer 2011

February 21st, 2011 by Karen 50 Comments

givenchy naivement couture swatches

Merci beaucoup, Givenchy. Today your 10-piece Naivement Couture Collection for spring/summer 2011 let me momentarily forget about winter and the aching chill in my booty bones.

I may have even developed a fever in Sephora while swatching Naivement’s palette of sun-kissed pink, orange and gold, because I had a hallucination, fo’ reals!

At one point an eye palette in my hand turned into a tube of sunscreen right before my eyes (wha!?). When I looked up, I was standing on a warm beach at sunset. There was a bucket of beer at my feet and a man standing beside it. The man was James Franco. “Where’d you run off to, babe?” he said, and I answered, “Sephora?” I turned my head to see where I’d come from, but when I turned it back, James and the beach were gone…

Wait — where was I?

Oh, yeah, Givenchy. 🙂 I know it’s early to be fantasizing about summer, but if you 1) anticipate finding yourself at the beach with a hot actor/graduate student/novelist (you never know) or 2) living in a place that start to heat up around June, consider stocking up on the long-wearing gel blush and felt-tip lip markers. I’m crushing hard on the matte pink Blush Gelee in Candide Pink ($33), which blends easily and creates a light, cooling sensation when applied (so refreshing!), and both of the Printed Lips markers ($30 each). All three of them offer sturdy, water-resistant color that should last through a day at the pool.

For more details on the Naivement Couture Collection, check out Naive Is Haute When It Comes to the Givenchy Naivement Couture Collection.

Lighter lasses, take a close look at the eye quad and powder blush. All four of the powder eyeshadows in Le Prisme Eyes in Candide Garden ($56) apply super sheer on my tan skin (I had to use four layers for these swatches), but the colors should sing louder on pale beauties. And the matte purplish pink Le Prisme Blush in It-Girl Purple ($44), which looked a little chalky on me, should behave better on fairer skin tones.

I’m intrigued by one of the products that wasn’t originally listed in the official PR. It’s called the Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm ($30). Made to be worn on cheeks and lips, this sheer pink balm feels sticky to the touch and dries to a matte finish. Like the Blush Gelee and the Printed Lips, it’s fairly water resistant, but I probably wouldn’t wear it on my cheeks because of how super sticky it feels, ewww. I can already see my hair sticking to it.

Last, but not least, are the Mad Men orange lipstick and lipgloss. The pigment in Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Candide Tangerine ($29) and Gloss Interdit in Succulent Orange ($26.50) are no joke! If you like bright, retro orangey reds a la MAC Lady Danger Lipstick, then both of these colors might suit you well.

So what do ya think? From the comments on the previous Givenchy post, it seems like the orange/pink/gold combo was something gals either hated or loved. Holla at me if you see something you like. 🙂

Bag lust!

Speaking of sunshine-y things, allow me to introduce you to my latest bag crush, the Classic Q Little Ukita in Marigold by MARC By Marc Jacobs. Reader Marisol and I ran into this beauty at Nordstrom today.

I love that bright yellow and how soft the leather feels. I also like that it can be worn as either a cross body or shoulder bag (so practical!). And it’s roomy enough to carry a book and a small water bottle on top of the necessities. Buuuuut, it’s super spendy. $398 (ZOMG!). We’ll see. I’ll have to think about it…for a long time.

Anywho, I hope you had a marvelous Monday. Did your week get off to a good start? Have you experienced any Fendi fevers lately or other bag crushes I should know about?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I read Candide Garden as Gnome Garden. I think that would be an awesome name for a quad.

I would actually really be into that, haha! Of course the quad would have to be called Garden Gnome or Gnome Garden. I’d also want a lipgloss named “Naughty Elf.”

Karen… I love Marc Jacobs bags – still lusting over Hillier Q hobo. Sigh. Someday, someday 🙂 Givenchy’s collection looks like Summer in a box. I like their Le Prisme concept, especially for mono shadows.

Love that bag. Am craving a new Coach Kristin atm. Much the same, it is more $ than I want to spend. Perhaps if I reduce my makeup budget for the next two months :$

Am liking that cheek and lip balm. I’ll have to visit Givenchy for a peek.

I live in Asia and this collection has been available for quite a while already! And the magic lip and cheek balm is permanent here also! I’ve tried it and love it for a bit of color on my lips – I never ever use it on my cheeks. Like you said, it’s much too sticky. I’ve tried the blush gelee and love it for a subtle flush. I wish it didn’t take so many layers if I want to build up the color though. I also love the orange lipstick. I’ve been looking for one for a while and this one is pretty good.

This is my favorite promo picture of all time. I could never wear it in public but I really, really want to. Love it! 🙂 I’m kind of stuck on the price of Candide Garden, though. Like you with the Marc Jacobs bag, I’ll need to consider it for a little while longer.

I know I won’t be able to resist. As the Borg say “resistance is futile”. 🙂 And I totally laughed about the glitter. You know me well! I probably said this 100 times already, but Yeyo on my waterlines makes me so happy. It’s the next best thing to glitter! Oh, and tranny lashes, of course. 🙂

Btw, I love Fossil Bags. I have a brown shoulder bag from last summer that I wear all the time. It’s casual, roomy, slouchy and soft.

My mom has a bunch of vintage Dooney & Bourke handbags from the ’80s. Remember when they were all about the pebbled leather?

I love pink, orange, and gold together! I probably have enough of those colors already that I will pass on the givenchy (plus, it’s darn spendy). But, orange lips are supposed to be “in” this season, so I may splurge on a new lippie in March or April I like that gloss. I have been thinking about getting the Josie Maran lip marker in jive for my orange fix, so we will see.

BTW, off topic a little, but i picked up another tarte amazonian clay blush yesterday-I could not resist the beauty, power, and call of Flushed! (that only makes 2 of these if you are keeping track).

Its hard. Bag lust is HARD. 🙁

As for the givency collection, I’m not a orange girl, but I like the other products! The cheek tint thing sounds a bit creepy(I don’t even like when my hair gets in my lipgloss.. I don’t even want to contemplate cheek stickiness 😐 )

    I NEED THAT LIPSTICK NOW.

I just got my first non-99 cent orange lipstick ever the other day; Tom Ford’s in ‘Ginger Fawn’. I like it, but it’s a littleeeee too muted for my taste. More like a burnt orange. This givenchy one looks a lot more vivid. I must be mad buying $45 lipsticks online, but thats pretty much the only option when you live in rural vermont. :/

Oh, man. I just tried the Succulent Orange gloss at Sephora today. That stuff is ORANGE and does not mess around, so in trying it I pretty much had the tissue ready to wipe it off.

    Except I didn’t.

Girls with pigmented lips, this gloss could be your best friends. It gives a bit of a coral tinge (You know how you can never get coral to show up on your lips? Try this.), a lot of shine, and really plays up the natural dark pigments in your lips. I wish I’d taken a picture–I will when I go back to get it; I didn’t have time to stand in line today–it really comes out a gorgeous dark reddish orange that is absolutely stunning.

If you’re looking at the swatch thinking “that’s not me,” I strongly encourage finding the gloss and taking the plunge! I think you’ll be surprised. 🙂
