MAC Blue Zone Face of the Day

October 11th, 2008 by Karen 36 Comments

You know how Picasso went through his blue phase? Well, for my look today I thought I’d follow Pablo’s lead.

Once I made up my mind about blue, I cleared space on the bathroom sink and set out some products from the recent MAC Suite Array collection.

I hate having a lot of errands and household chores to do over the weekend, but sometimes that’s just how it goes. I did this blue and purple eye while I whined my way through five loads of laundry.

  1. I started the look by priming my lids with Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer to give the shadows extra staying power.
  2. Next, I applied MAC Rave Pearlglide Eye Liner onto the lid.
  3. I swept the dark shade from the MAC Blue Zone eye duo directly on top of the liner with a Sonia Kashuk Large Eye Shadow Brush.
  4. With the tip of my ring finger moving in a circular motion, I rubbed in the pan of the light shade from the MAC Blue Zone eye duo. I patted the finger onto the center of each lid to deposit the color.
  5. Then, I lined both my upper and lower water lines with MAC Black Russian Pearlglide liner. Thanks to readers Tricia and Vero for bringing to my attention that MAC’s Pearlglide liners aren’t approved for use on the water line. It’s best to skip the Pearlglide in this step and use something like MAC Technakohl liner instead. Thanks, Tricia and Vero!

To finish the eyes, I curled my lashes and added two coats of Tarte 4 Day Lash Stain mascara (I’m going to review this soon).

I kept the cheeks light with Clinique Fresh Bloom Allover Color in Almond Blossom and topped off the look with a soft pink lip using MAC Modesty Creamsheen Lipstick and Stila Grapefruit Lip Glaze gloss.

How was your day? Did you do anything fun? The highlight of my day was the brief hour I went out for lunch with El Hub. We had Puerto Rican at Sol Food in San Rafael. It’s one of my favorite places up here and really hits the spot when you’re in the mood for home cookin’ (and carbs!).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hot look Karen! How are you liking the Pearlglide Eyeliners?

Don’t you just love Sol Food? I picked up some food there on Friday night when I drove into town. Soooo yummy.

Today was a low key day for me. Getting prepped for wine tasting tomorrow.

    Have a great weekend!

    Thats a very pretty look!

I totally sympathise about having errands and general “stuff” to do. I had a lazy day yesterday, watching some cooking shows and a marathon of Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane and that means today I have to do everythind else.

I’ve got a to-do list written up 14 things I really need to do today and I know I just have to do them, I really just want to spend another day lazing in bed!!

Hope your Sunday get off to a good start!

You know you can’t use the pearlglides on your waterline? They have metal spots and they can damage your cornea!!

    You look beautiful though!

    Hi Marisol,

I am *loving* the Pearlglides. Did you pick any up?

Awww! One of these days I swear we’re destined to run into each other. I almost went on Friday but got too lazy to leave the house. What dish did you get?

    Hi Beth,

OMG! I love that show! I both love/don’t love Kimora simultaneously. Some day I’d love to meet her in person and just pick her brain. Isn’t her closet amazing?

I want to spend the rest of the day lazing on the couch. 🙂

Been meaning to ask you… how is the tattoo healing going? Are you all healed up?

    Hi Tricia,

I didn’t see a warning on the box or a warning insert inside … I put it on mine and didn’t have any issues at all. Where did you see that? I won’t apply them on the waterline in the future just to be safe, so thanks for letting me know!

    Hi Xamich,

Thanks! Hmmm, my biggest one would probably be to become one with the smokey layered look. I have friends with single lids and that look always seems to look great on them. Are you a big eye shadow/liner person?

Oh, and false lashes or a great mascara/primer (along with a lash curler) can also help to open up the eyes!

    Hi Yadiq,

    Thanks! 🙂

The funny thing is there are *two* Puerto Rican places literally right down the same street, and they are both the same restaurant (one is small, the other one has bigger seating). The mofongo there is *sooo* garlicy good sometimes that it makes me want to cry with joy. Sometimes they have a whole fried Tilapia as the special of the day and I can tear that sh*t up faster than you can say fried fish. You don’t mess with a little Filipino girl with a whole fried Tilapia sitting in front of her, ha ha ha!

I am glad you are liking The Good Earth!!! Doesn’t it look good on toes?

Yeah that’s the reason why I didn’t buy any of the eye liners cause the makeup artist @ mac told me they are not waterline safe, because of the glitters in them. I was so bummed. Could you find out.

LOL I am literally cracking up out loud here !!!! No one can mess with me and mofongo either I am not big on fish though – mofongo with garlic shrimp is one of my faves for thanksgiving my family and I make a puerto rican inspired turkey rather than traditional stuffing we make a huge batch of garlicky mofongo and stuff the heck outta the turkey LOL hard work but soooo worth it
I am salivating thinking about it this puerto rican girl loves her some food LOL hence why I have to work out so much to make room for endless calories which I always indulge in traditional ethnic cuisines are always so yummy and bad for diets LOL woe is me LOL. Damn Karen you have me craving now LOL I am getting ready to plan my weekly meals all low fat and low cal not satisfying – weekends are my splurge days 🙂

    Hi Vero,

Thanks for letting know. I just spoke with someone at the counter and they confirmed that even though the packages don’t come with a warning insert it’s safer to avoid using it on the area because of the glitter. 🙂

    Hi Tricia,

I just called the counter and they confirmed that you should skip using them on the waterline. Although no warning inserts come with the package both artists I spoke with said to avoid using it on the waterline because of the glitter. Well that sucks…

    Hi Yadiq,

Have you had Filipino food? It’s the same way… hella flavorful and hella FRIED! It’s really good, but I can’t eat it every day.

I would so get down on that mofongo turkey. You’d have to fight me to get some of it, HA HA HA!

I grew up with a lot of Filipinos when I was in private school (k-8) so I had a lot of Filipino dishes back then ESP during school cultural food festivals ! Don’t ask me what the dishes were all I knew was it was good and I ate it joyfully I am not a picky eater you had me craving so much I have just started cooking some rice and beans LOL luckily I swapped the white rice for brown rice which I am steaming and skipped the oil on the beans I guess I will broil some steak as opposed to pan sautee to cut some calories LOL

    Hi Yadiq,

I do tricks to cut down on calories when I cook, too. I rely on non-stick pans a lot!

The typical Filipino potluck foods are lumpia (egg rolls), pancit (noodles) and chicken adobo! I bet you got to try lots of yummy stuff!

Now I am craving some rice and fish!

I have not had a chance to go to MAC to see their new products. But I am interested in the pearlglide liners.

I ended up picking up some Chuletas Fritas for my sister and I got 2 pieces of Pollo Al Horno with rice, beans & maduros. Love that food!

You are so right. We are destined to meet one of these days. 🙂

I love that food, too. I may have to go back this week because now I’m seriously craving mofongo. 🙂

Chances we will run into each other at the MAC counter, ha ha!

    Hi Lexi,

You’re welcome. I’m a little disappointed that they aren’t as flexible, but they are very nice for smudging and layering underneath shadows, which is nice. Those things really should come with a warning!
