Raye Wedge Sandals by Coconuts: These Coconuts Are High in Fun

March 16th, 2011 by Karen 32 Comments

So I realize that I don’t review shoes often, but the more I wear these Coconuts sandals, the more obligated I feel to share their awesomeness with womankind. 🙂

These Coconuts Raye Wedge Sandals usually go for $65 a pair, but I stumbled upon them at Marshalls for $30. They come in three colors — Metal (multicolored gold, silver and bronze), Pink (multicolored pink, orange, purple, blue and green) and Black (multicolored black, pewter and gold; the ones I got). I usually wear shoes in a 7, but the closest size I found was an 8. Luckily, these run kinda small. They’re still a touch big, but not annoyingly so, and they’re surprisingly comfortable for high heels. As a matter of fact, I barely had to break them in.

Exactly how high are they? Well, they’re 3 and a 1/2 inches beneath a platform of about an inch. Gurl, my vertically challenged self feels SUPER tall with ’em on!

It hasn’t stopped raining here for days, so I haven’t wanted to wear them out yet, but I have been wearing them around the house. You know, for fun. They’re quite stable and easy to walk in, despite the height, and the soft straps don’t dig into my skin.

They’re just so versatile, ya know? I can see wearing them with sun dresses, skinny jeans or even wide-leg khaki pants.

One thing I’m worried about is how well they’ll hold up. I got a pair of Coconuts flats last summer, and by the end of September they’d basically fallen apart. Hopefully this pair fares better than those did, but even if they don’t, at least I didn’t pay full price (sheesh, I really AM my mother’s daughter). 🙂

If you like the style and want a versatile, casually comfortable spring/summer sandal with height, give these Coconuts a try.

PRICE: $65 (check Marshalls, though; I found them for half that)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at select Marshalls stores and also online

The one near my house is hit-or-miss for clothes, but the shoe section ROCKS! I’ve found stuff there from high end shoe brands like Coach, LAMB, etc. for basically half off.

Have you ever checked their housewares or pet section? It can be pretty good too.

no, I may need to wander around one day and look at the other departments! I have a Ross that’s even closer, but never really go there. do you have those in your neck of the woods?

They’re adorable and almost make me wish I wore something other than sneakers. Just reading “high heels” made my feet hurt. 🙂

Haha! Well, I think a lot of it depends on the heel. Wedges seem to be more sturdy, stable and comfy.

I definitely need a chunky heel for stability, but anything over 2-1/2″ makes the balls of my feet throb and burn after half an hour. I admire any woman who can wear heels, let alone run in them (I’m thinking SITC). Amazing!

I admire the women who can rock sky high heels on cobblestone streets in Europe. It truly is a skill.

So cute! I saw those at DSW the other day but they didn’t have a size 6 so I just walked on by…..but I may have to go back and try on one of the larger sizes. 🙂

Definitely try a pair on. I was a little iffy at first (I was afraid they’d be too high), but they actually are really comfy. 🙂

The stores tend to be hit or miss… I’ve been into a few which have nothing really interesting. The shoe section at the one near my house if PHENOMENAL, though!

I feel like wearing shoes around the house can be very different from wearing them outdoors. I wore Steve Madden’s Trinities around my house with no trouble walking, but when I stepped outdoors I started stumbling a bit. Not like straight up falling, but it wasn’t as easy as it was in my apartment.

Sorry, that was weird and off-topic.

These shoes look so comfy and cute. That’s what I love about wedges. They seem to always feel stable regardless of height.

These are so cute (and I love how they go with Tabs’s coloring). I am a huge klutz, so I tend to stay away from anything with any height, but I may have to check these out.

‘sheesh, I really AM my mother’s daughter’

LOL, I’m definitely my mum’s since I love a good deal, but she just told me that I’m definitely my dad’s as I spent all the cash I had today when out shopping. It’s so typically him to spend as much as he has.

Love the wedges! I’ve been looking for something really similar. There’s a gorgeous orange suede pair from Top Shop, but sooo tall! It was practically vertical.

I LOVE YOUR BLOG! I’m addicted to it! I’ve told several friends about it too! I read it every day and always find something new and interesting to read. I went out and purchased the NARS illuminators based on your recommendation and I love it. I’m a big Urban Decay fan, but use a little bit of everything. I was wondering if you’ve ever reviewed the PurMinerals brand? They have a nice blush that I’ve been using for a couple of years. I also have Mac blush, but prefer the PM brand of blush. Thinking of trying out a cream blush…any recommendations?

I am so jealous of people who aren’t as tall as I am. 🙁 Almost 5’10” over here, and putting on even a tame 1.5 inch kitten heel makes me as tall or taller than just about every dude out on the town, and I just am not comfortable being taller than a dude I might want to get to know. It’s the worst, because I love the look of heels and I would wear them pretty much always if I could just be 5’4″.

Those shoes are so flippin cute! I’ve been keeping my eyes out for some low-heeled wedges, since they’re always so popular in the spring. Lemme know if you’ve seen any!

The Marshalls location by me ROCKS! Their shoe department is like 1/3 of the whole store and there are always high end brands. My mother in law bought a pair of Coach snow boots for $89. I had 3 pairs of shoes in my cart last week but I didn’t pull the trigger. I can’t buy shoes that I won’t be able to wear immediately (at least that’s how I convince myself not to buy). Those wedges are super cute though!

I used to grab a cart on my way in but I had to stop because I’d just keep filling that bad boy up.

If can’t carry it around with just hands, then it doesn’t get to the register!

Very cute! The Marshalls by me is a 5 min walk which makes it very dangerous! I’m not too keen on their clothes but they have a great shoe dept and I adore their house stuff. I have found so many things for my kitchen that were half the price of the dept store.

The one near my house is a five minute drive!

It’s pretty much the same situation as yours. The shoes and the housewares rock, but the clothes are hit or miss (the workout stuff is pretty good, though).

Ooh, they’re really cute! I tend not to wear heels over 3″ though. It’s partly because I have trouble walking in them, but primarily because I’m 5’11!” Luckily, my 6 foot tall boyfriend (who just got back from his stint in Afghanistan with the State Dept. on Monday, yayyyyyy!) doesn’t mind if I wear heels around him 😀

Aw, thanks. It has its pros and cons. It’s REALLY hard to find pants long enough for me (36″ inseam, eek). Also, klutziness + long limbs = embarrassing, lol.

I’m really happy! I was so worried about his safety because the area he was in suddenly got dramatically more violent right before he arrived. I’m just glad he’s home. He’s excited that he actually gets to sleep. He had him working 95+ hour weeks :(. I keep (jokingly) suggesting that he should get a pony with the overtime money, but he seems resistant to the idea. He wants boring things, like “new bookcases,” “a closet makeover,” and “food.” Pfft. It would be so exciting to date someone with a pony! My inner child would be so pleased. 😀
