Sheer Up, Kiddo: The MAC Suntints SPF20 Liquid Lip Balms Are Back

May 7th, 2011 by Karen 13 Comments

When the limited edition MAC Suntint liquid lip balms rose with 2009’s Baby Bloom collection, I was more into how they felt than how they looked. I loved their non-sticky, hydrating formula, but I hoped for more pigment from them at the time.

Oh, what a difference 600 days make…

The Suntints are back, but this time I’m totally into them. I’ve been loving sheer, moisturizing tinted glosses lately, and the Suntints fit the bill. Three of them — Full of Grace (a sheer rose), Pink Tinge (a yellowish pink with golden pearl) and Lilt of Lily (a creamy pale pink) — are arriving with the Surf Baby collection (coming May 26 to North America; internationally, some time this month).

I like that they contain SPF 20, but because they are non-sticky (which makes them feel great on the lips), they have to be regularly reapplied. Luckily, that couldn’t be a whole lot easier to do, even without a mirror. If you like the Clinique Superbalms ($14), you might like these too. The Superbalms feel slightly stickier than the Suntints to me and contain, in some cases, quite a bit more color (but no SPF).

The Suntints are kinda pricey (Neutrogena makes a similar product for $6 a pop), but I like the packaging…and I know I could easily finish a tube without wasting a drop. 🙂

PRICE: $15.50 each (3 shades)
AVAILABILITY: Coming May 26 to North American MAC stores, counters and online; internationally, some time this month
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A-

Ooh, Full of Grace looks lovely. I always love to find lip products with SPF.

I like sheer lip products sometimes, but you’re right. I don’t think I would pay that much for one when you can get something extremely similar for a lot less. What do they smell like? That might sway me. 🙂

I like the packaging, too, but these are too sheer for me. Plus, I’m on a lip balm hiatus.

The packaging is super pretty! And Lilt of Lily has a unique shimmer to it. I’m not a huge lip gloss person but these look so pretty! They just scream summer 🙂

missed these when baby bloom came out, definitely getting them this time! going on a big summer holiday so these would be a great all- round lip product! (spf, shine, tint)

OMG I have never heard of these. They look amazing and the SPF is a must in Australia. I hope they aren’t sticky because that is my biggest lip balm peeve.

I like tinted balms and glosses. DHC glosses are pigmented but sheer at the same time. I always feel that the hint of color adds something more to it.

I loved these when they came out with the Baby Bloom collection for all the reasons you mentioned. I’m excited that they’re back and I love the cute packaging.

I need at least one of these in my life! MAC lip conditioner is my HG but I like to use it alone. This will be perfect to give me a bit of color too 🙂
