EOS Shave Cream in Vanilla Bliss Shaves Hair and a Few Minutes Every Time

May 10th, 2011 by Karen 38 Comments

My BFF Cindy is a practical girl, and lawd she knows me well. Fed up with me arriving late to our homegirl dates, she gave me an ultimatem after the last time, threatening to take away my lipgloss if I ever did it again.

Got. My. Attention.

With horror like that hanging over my head, I was extra careful to set aside enough time to get ready last Friday before our ballet date.

I was ahead of schedule when I finished my hair and makeup, so I pulled up Google Images on my computer to take a really quick break.

“S h i r t l e s s C h a n n i n g T a t u m” [ENTER]

When I bolted back to consciousness 15 minutes later, I was, as usual, running late. “No problem,” I told myself in a soothing voice. “Lots of time.” And then I glanced down at my legs and noticed — WHOA! — a thicket of fur on my shins (enough to make a full-length coat).

It has been said that Asian women don’t have a lot of body hair. Well, tonight on MythBusters: my furry legs. 🙂

Thank ye beauty gods for EOS Shave Cream ($3.49)! It delivered one of my fastest shaves ever.

I’ve actually used the same cream in a different scent before. Last summer, I hacked away my body hair with the Pomegranate Raspberry version. I loved how soft it left my legs, how quick it made my shaves and how it never gave me bumps, but I couldn’t stand the scent (sickly sweet). Still, I liked how well it worked enough to finish the bottle.

But then I moved on to other things, discouraged by the scent, and forgot about EOS Shave Cream…until I tried Vanilla Bliss! It’s just as creamy and moisturizing as the Raspberry one, and also works with or without water. It’s one of six flavors in the EOS Shave Cream line.

The scent? Like vanilla ice cream and warm apple pie… And SO much better than the one in Pomegranate Raspberry (at least to me). It’s a softer scent and not at all overwhelmingly sweet.

Like the other EOS Shave Creams, Vanilla Bliss is paraben-free. Among its ingredients, it lists aloe, oat and shea butter, but they’re annoyingly way down the list (scoot ’em up, guys!).

It’s a blessing for quickie dry shaves, like the one I had to do the other night. I pulled the bottle from my shower (the soft-touch plastic doesn’t leave rust rings in the tub, yea!), applied a layer on my dry legs and shaved at the bathroom sink. When I finished, I wiped my gams with a towel, massaged in a little body oil (totally optional, but I like having a little shine on my legs), slipped into my dress and darted for the door.

Thanks to EOS Shave Cream, I made it to the ballet on time (and got to keep my lipgloss).

PRICE: $3.49 for a 7-oz. bottle
AVAILABILITY: Available now at most drugstores including Walgreens, Walmart, Target and Rite Aid; also available online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

The Little Mermaid (the PG-13 version)

I’ve been meaning to tell you about the ballet! In a word: AMAZING. It tells the story of an underwater kingdom and a 15-year-old mermaid who falls in love with a handsome surface prince (the wonderful Disney movie is based on the story of the ballet). I loved how the dancers portrayed the act of swimming on the stage. The ballerina who played the little mermaid wore long teal pants that extended well beyond the bottom of her feet. When she’d “swim,” the cast members would hoist her up, unfurl the draping pants, and flutter the ends like a moving tail. Then, other dancers wearing full blue skirts with white ruffles at the edges would twirl around her on stage, so it looked like she was swimming in torrents of water. So beautiful.

The haunting sets and music, the story, the striking costumes and choreography all left a mark on my heart, and I haven’t stopped thinking about them yet.

I’ve only seen a handful of ballets in my life, but I would love to watch this one again. Highly recommended whether you’re a dance fan or just enjoy watching beautiful things. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I LOVE the Vanilla Bliss! I’ve tried the Pom Raspberry and didn’t like the scent, either. Same with their Lavender Jasmine; it was oddly sharp and stuffy. But the vanilla is perfect. And it really is excellent for last minute, oh-crap-I’m-already-dressed dry shaves!

I’m nearing the end of my Bath and Bodyworks shaving foam, so I need to find some of this stat!

I love the pictures with Tabs. He’s one step closer to a lion cut, isn’t he 🙂

The ballet looks beautiful, and the way they did the swimming sounds very innovative (much more so than the musical version of the Disney movie they did a couple of years back). Did the ballet have the traditional (and rather depressing) ending?

I have only been to the ballet twice when I was younger, but enjoyed it both times. And I love using creams to shave with. I saw this one at the store but ended up putting it back. Now I wish I hadn’t!

Maybe pick it up next time you need a bottle? With summer coming soon you’ll probably need to restock a few times. Whatever you do stay away from the pink bottle, LOL!

You are hilarious. In one of my classes today my professor awkwardly asked us what male celebrities the girls in class would want to be date, and one girl yelled out CHANNING TATUM.
The professor was very confused hahaha. =)

LOL, a girl after my own heart! I wonder if she watched Dear John on TV the other day like I did.

As for body oil, I have a couple that I like — Neutrogena or Origins Ginger Gloss in the summer, usually. Right now I’m using one from Clarins called Tonic. It’s supposed to firm skin. I dunno…we’ll see!

Aww, furry kitty belly – so cute! I love the EOS shave creams and have been using them since I saw your first review of them. I am currently using the purple bottle which is Lavender and it has a nice light scent. I will try the Vanilla one next.

Thanks for the review of the ballet. If it ever ends up near my neck of the woods, I will definitely check it out. It sounds amazing!

I JUST bought this a few days ago! I remember your raspberry pomegranate review, so I went with the vanilla. Needless to say, it truly does rawk. I use it dry so I can save some water (besides shaving my legs in the shower), and it works like a dream. I used to just use regular lotion outside the shower for leg shaving, but this stuff really is so, so much better. I can get more swipes with my razor using EOS, and rinsing the razor in the sink is so much easier than with lotion. The EOS just pops right out of the razor blades, and I can go on my merry way. I will be purchasing this again!

I just used this today and it worked really well on a dry shave (no bumps, irritation, or nicks!), but the cream clogged my razor and wouldn’t wash out! Was I using the wrong razor, or not rinsing the right way or something?

      Thanks!

I like this shave cream, but I don’t like that it’s colorless. I know that’s terrible, but I need the white rather to help me not miss spots lol. This shave cream doesn’t give me any razor burn though, which is super rare – it seems like all of them do. My favorite is the purple one, I think it’s lavender something. So comforting. I hated the raspberry one too, I don’t like the smell so it’s still sitting in my shower. 🙂

Nobody has mentioned yet how awesome it is that the bottle is plastic (which can be recycled!) so there are no annoying rings left in the shower if you happen to keep it there! I love this stuff and can’t believe how inexpensive it is for all the benefits =)

I just bought the pink kind! I’m not a fan of uber-sweet scents, so I figured it’d be the least offensive. Boy was I wrong! I’ll have to get the vanilla kind next time. 🙂 Thank God it works well.

So the whole scent thing is what turned me on to Aveeno shaving cream because the scent is so nice… but it’s not cut out for dry shaves, so I’ll have to keep my eye out for the EOS and give it a try. I love their chapsticks.
