Lancome Kissed By Gold: Should You Have Designs on this Summer Shadow & Liner Palette?

May 20th, 2011 by Karen 15 Comments

I wonder how peacocks feel about Lancome’s shimmery Color Design Shadow & Liner Palette in Kissed By Gold ($48). Perhaps I should ask the one that cruises the walkways where my in-laws live near verdant Haiku Gardens. He’s such a show-off, that bird, always flaunting his glossy feathers for all the world to see (sometimes from the back of pickup trucks!). I guess I can’t blame him, really. I’d probably do the same thing if my feathers shined like that. 🙂

I bet he’d still be a little jealous, though, of Kissed By Gold’s approach to these classic, summery shades because something tells me these shimmery bronzes, golds, pinks and browns would look lovely on tail feathers (and tanned skin).

The palette is one of the latest additions to Lancome’s line of Color Design Shadow & Liner Palettes, a family of color-coordinated eye palettes released earlier this year, and it’s one of the shiniest high-pigment palettes this particular bird has seen in a while.

Even though there’s also a matte here, it’s the shimmery shadows that steal the show. On skin they glow like peacock feathers (in a more neutral palette) and polished chrome, and I’m reminded of the mirror finish of an Urban Decay shadow sprinkled with a dash of elegant Dior.

The moment my brush met the first highly pigmented pan I called “DAY-UM!” out loud. Not only do they look great, but they also blend in the blink of an eye! Seriously, if basic eyeshadow colors are like day-old coffee, then these are like espresso brewed by gold medal baristas — intense, rich and opaque.

After playing with the Kissed By Gold yesterday morning, I decided to collect EVERY SINGLE PALETTE from the line…

…but then I checked my lids at the end of the day.

Hello, 1-800-CREASE-AND-FADE. It was weird — there was still some color on my brow bones and lids, but the pigments sandwiched between them had all but disappeared. You know those Neopolitan ice cream bars with the three yummy stripes? It was like that, as if I’d forgotted to apply makeup in the middle. And I’d even started with a layer of industrial strength NARS Pro-Prime, too.

Shoot! It’s really a shame because the pigments and finish could’ve made Kissed By Gold a new must-have.

Such a beautiful palette! But such a shame it creases and fades! I Love Lancome eye palettes though.

I knew you’d love that pigment! They are so fun to play with. I swear I could not choose between a few of those palettes. I have a really big soft spot for that mainly purple one, though. You’re right, the pigment is BAM, they do blend like a dream but crease like WOAH. Glad you reviewed it! The eye pic looks great.

I almost bought that palette today but I chose the Teal Fury palette instead. I hope it does crease.

I was drooling over this palette but sad that it fades & creases. I feel sad when such high end products perform well.. 🙁

    Hello 🙂
    I just had a couple questions…

    1) Did you use eyeshadow primer first? (I’m ghessing you did but just curious)

    2) Going with the asumpsion that you did wear primer, why if the poduct did not hold up well and creased did it still receive a rating if B-?

I ask b/c I really love the look of the pallette for this summer, but I don’t wanna spend that kinda $ if it’s not worth it…

I also want to thank you for your blog 😀 I read it almost everyday and you keep me up to date on everything current, upcoming, and more. You have also helped my desisions on purchasing specific products. For instance I just purchased the Becca brush cleaner, and the EOS shaving cream:: amazing! So thanks agian Karen, your blog is a huge help and personal interest <3

Okay, you HAVE to tell me how you did this look! I’m soooo inlove with it. I’m gonna skip out on this palette too, but I for sure most likely have some dupes in my makeup collection–that would probably last longer on my face!!!
