MAC Eyeshadow, Circa 1998

May 27th, 2011 by Karen 19 Comments

I was rifling through my stash and found an ancient pan of Brule that I haven’t used in years. I bought it in 1998 along with Print. Notice the screw-on cap and the MAC logo on the side.

Wow that’s so cool! I’ve never seen MAC’s packaging like that ever. Watch, one day the current flip top becomes the “old” packaging!

thats so crazy! im glad they switched to the flip top packaging since twist caps and i dont seem to get along. in 98 i was only 10 years old, and not allowed to wear nail polish to school let alone make up >.<

I wasn’t alive in 1998, so it’s nice you posted it. Oh, and guess what? Yesterday I got my first MAC product ever! It’s Creme Cup lipstick if you’re wondering.

It makes me feel so old that people are posting here now who weren’t alive in 1998. I graduated high school in 1997, haha. But I only bought my first mac product around Christmas lat year so I’ve never seen that packaging. Late bloomer 😉

Yeah! Don’t feel old! I graduated in 1999 and bought my first MAC in 2002(ish). I’ve never seen that packaging either.

Just last week my co-editor Tyna did a back to MAC and the MA called all the sales people over to marvel over all of her old stuff (including packaging just like this!) “OMG, this SO old!!” they were all squealing.

OK All of you young whippersnappers, try this one for size ~ I graduated high school in 1990, and in 1998 I was married to my first husband and was a nurse!!!
That said, I totally remember this packaging and actually have a few somewhere around here, one being Avalanche.
In case you’re wondering, I’m now married to my second husband & am no longer a nurse and am all of 38. Do you youngins think I’m ancient?? Haha!!

I haven’t bought a singular Mac eyeshadow in so long, I didn’t know it’s not a screw top anymore! I’ve only bought limited palettes in recent years. So the MAC logo is new to me (1998 I was 13 and my parents bought me Shiseido makeup – boy was I spoiled) but the screw top certainly isn’t. =P

I sure do!! In fact used one of those today- corduroy. I also have print too. Haha. My first Mac purchase was in early 90’s. It was Russian red when I heard it was madonna’s l/s on tour. Never mind my age….

In 1998, I had already been working as a mua for 20 yrs. I remember that pkg, now Smashbox uses it.

Thanks for sharing this Karen! Nice to know what MAC shadows looked like before the flip-top packaging.
