It’s No Illusion; This Sparkle Is Real: Illusions D’Ombres De Chanel Collection for Fall

June 29th, 2011 by Karen 65 Comments

Chanel Fall 2011 swatches

Metallics rule the new 21-piece Illusions D’Ombres De Chanel collection for fall flaunting eye-catching, shimmery finishes, but a solitary matte blush threatens to steal the crown!

Ooh! It’s like Game of Thrones up in here. 🙂

Well met, lords and ladies. Heya! How’s your hump day been? Mine got epically better this afternoon when I ran into the new Chanel Fall 2011 collection at Nordies after lunch. The limited edition release for eyes, lips and cheeks is available now at Chanel counters and also online, and if you like your makeup with major bling, feast your eyes upon this…

Hello, pigment! My eyes immediately locked on the creamy new line of Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadows ($36), which practically blinded me from across the room. Some products reflect light; these almost give it off. As for how they feel, they have a spongy, soft texture that reminds me of the Buxom Stay There Eye Shadows ($17).

I really dig the three nail polishes in the release (Peridot, Graphite and Quartz). Check out the glitter in Graphite. Wow, right? That there sparkles like chain mail…

I foresee a few of the cream shadows (Illusoire, Eptatant and Mirifique) and at least one of the polishes (Graphite) hopefully coming home with me soon. Other than that, hmm… I’m not sure yet. I have to spend a little more time getting to know the products.

And even MORE Chanel

I played a fun game on chanel.com this afternoon called Let’s See How Much Chanel I Can Put in My Cart. I think it’s a Hasbro game. 🙂 So fun! Between rounds I noticed another fall collection from Chanel, Collection Byzance de Chanel.

From these pics, doesn’t it look like a holiday collection? I don’t know, though. That red blush just moved me.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Karen, you are a blogging machine! You’ve posted something new very time I check back.
These do look like a holiday collection. The packaging is so elegant and expensive-looking.
*sigh* they do not compare to my NYX stuff.

      Hi BooBooNinja,

I gotta say that NYX has some really great stuff. Their eyeshadow palettes are a good value!

What are your faves from the line?

        Hi Karen,

Sorry, I didn’t catch your response.
I like the NYX single shadows. Their payoff and texture are better than their palettes. However, the St. Marteen palette from the Caribbean Collection offers up 5 nicely matched neutral shades. There is some fallout from those shadows but as a new user, I appreciate how all 5 colours go well together. I’ve got “Pinched”, a powder blush, and think it’s a great summer colour. Not over the top with shimmer, and it’s supposed to be a pinker, less glittery (yes!) version of NARS Orgasm. I’ve noticed that the more recent NARS Orgasm formulations are pinker overall, so you could say that the NYX version is a decent match. I actually prefer it.

I’m trying out NYX bit by bit, so I’m not an expert or anything!

      Hi Ladydi,

Khaki is a touch more green, while Rose is more of a pinky beige. Here’s a quick comparison swatch with Khaki on the right:

Thank you for the comparison, I have been wondering about those two liners as well 🙂 btw, do you have any idea why the rose liner is with a twist-up mechanism and the khaki like a regular khol kajal? Given the similarities in their naming, I thought khaki would be the same kind of pencil, too. Thank you!

I was immediately drawn there, too. 🙂 I think I pretty much love everything about Illusions D’Ombres. How could anyone not be wow’d by the sparkle? Very nice, but I am most interested in having the black gel/cream eyeshadow instead of a Mac Blackout Paint Pot (those feel a little heavy on my oily lids). Think it’s a good substitute?

Also, I saw the LE Byzantine shadow palette in a magazine, but since I can’t afford like $200 for one thing, it slipped me by…grrr. Anyone else see it; it’s sooooooo beautiful!

My Chanel counter didn’t have the full collection yet, but I did get a chance to play around with the long wear eyeshadows. I was pretty unimpressed. I was the first one to swatch them and felt that the color payoff wasn’t great and there was a lot of fall-out in the sparkle.

The quad is gorgeous though, and I’m going back & forth on whether or not to pick it up.

      Hey Bing,

Are you headed to the Chanel store? I was there a couple weeks ago and the SA said they won’t be getting their stuff until August. The collection’s already out at Neiman’s, though. If/when you go ask for Rocky! I haven’t worked with him, but my good friend and fellow Chanel addict, Joanie, adores him and speaks highly of him.
