Tarte Glow Your Way to Gorgeous Helped Me Face My Day

July 14th, 2011 by Karen 41 Comments

tarte glow your way to gorgeous

Well, hello, glow! How nice of you to visit. 🙂 Waking up was tough this morning, and I got up feeling frazzled and a little run down.

I decided that some shimmer was in order because it usually picks me up, but since I hadn’t had any coffee yet and wasn’t firing on all cylinders, I knew I should stick to something simple. I reached for Tarte’s new Glow Your Way to Gorgeous Kit ($55, available now exclusively on QVC.com), an eight-piece set with makeup for eyes, lips and cheeks in shades of pink, peach and plum. In addition to makeup, it comes with a couple of brushes and a full-coverage concealer — handy, by the way, when you stay up too late watching brainless reality TV (The Challenge: Rivals on MTV, anyone?) and get up the next morning with KILLER dark circles.

Swatches from the left: LipSurgence Natural Lip Luster in Sweet, Amazonian Clay Blush in Peaceful, Amazonian Clay SmolderEyes Eyeliner in Fig, EmphasEyes Waterproof Clay Cream Shadow in Shimmering Taupe and Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Tan

A breakdown of the look…

EYES
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Shadow in Shimmering Taupe on the lid (it’s like a cream version of MAC’s Satin Taupe eyeshadow)
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay SmolderEyes Eyeliner in Fig in the crease and along the lower lash line
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara in Black on both the upper and lower lashes
CHEEKS
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Peaceful on the apples of the cheeks
LIPS
  • Tarte Lip Luster in Sweet on the lips
FACE
  • Tarte Maracuja (the name means “passion flower” in Portuguese) Creaseless Concealer in Tan
  • MAC Mineralize Satinfinish Foundation in NC42 all over the face
  • MAC Strobe Cream all over the face
  • MAC Studio Careblend Powder in Light Plus beneath the eyes
  • MAC Studio Careblend Powder in Medium Dark, also all over the face

I think this might be my new favorite daytime look.

Okay, yeah, I change favorites all the time, but as of right now, I mean. 🙂 It was easy to put together, and I feel super girly with it on.

What about your makeup? Were you feeling adventurous, or did you go with conservative today?

The realities of late-night reality TV

Maybe it’s because I haven’t been sleeping very well, but I’m beat. I made some unwise television choices too late at night this week, and now I’m paying for it. I should have known better than to start watching MTV’s The Challenge: Rivals at 11.

Buuuut, speaking of that, even though he urgently needs anger management classes, does anyone else find CT, well, kinda hot?

And then the night before that, also at 11, I started watching a missing persons show on Lifetime that totally freaked me out…

NOTE TO SELF: Do not watch suspenseful, dramatic or intense TV shows right before bed.

So what’s shaking out yonder way? Are you doing anything tonight?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I think I need this blush.

I’ve always had a thing for CT since his first appearance on the Real World.

I so cannot wait to get this. i’m a huge tarte fanatic. I can’t believe I did this though, b/c of how much $ I have spent on makeup over the past few months I decided i have to pass on this. but then i caved. But I caved too late. The light was already on waitlist so i’m on that waitlist too.

    Colors look great on u

I just got this kit yesterday and so far I’m really liking the concealer, although I haven’t played with anything else yet.

I went with a pretty neutral MAC look today. Warmth of Coral on the cheeks, This and That Mineralize shadow duo on the lids, Uniformly Blue Greasepaint Stick as a liner, and Wind Me Up Dare to Wear Lipglass

I got this kit on Monday and I have worn everything in the kit everyday this week. I”m on Auto Delivery for I think 2 or 3 more kits. I’m in luv! I find the concealer truly creasless…and I”m a woman with lots of creases. lol

I have this kit and STILL have yet to play with it. The bad thing about being a beauty blogger is that you can’t use things unless you’ve taken pictures of them first and I just haven’t had the time, haha. Hopefully this weekend I’ll get a chance!

I went with some matte purple eyeshadow today which ended up causing me a bit of trouble. I always forget that matte shades can be tricky to blend.

I’m seriously in love with that Tarte kit but the “light” concealer color is out of stock on the website. Since I’m about an NC25, do you think medium would be too dark?

I always get caught up on suspense movies on Netflix late at night and then get too scared to fall asleep at a reasonable hour. All the more reason to buy the Tarte kit, right? lol.

Leah, I’m about NC40 right now and the medium is perfect for me, so I’d suggest waiting for the light – unless you plan on getting a really deep tan this summer. Hope that helps.

I would beg to differ, I am also NC25 in concealer and NC30 in foundation, but I am a medium in this kit. Hope this helps 🙂

Tarte is not available in France, do you have any dupes in mind?

i have this kit and i’ve been wearing it everyday since i got it, everything works great for me. i hate kits where one or two items end up not being used. most concealers crease on me but not this one. i’m so glad i’m on auto delivery. did you get the bonus maracuja oil and bronzer?

I’ve been meaning to try more Tarte products (I only have a few of the lipsurgences). I never heard of this kit, but it seems like a great way to test out a bunch of Tarte’s products!!

Nooooooo… I can’t add anything else to my wishlist. I’m really wanting and the Urban Decay palette that just came out, but things are tight, so I’m gonna have to wait. And its torture!! I’m thinking of getting a little side part time job just so I can buy makeup, lol. Thanks for another great review!

So cute and pretty! The Fig eyeliner looks really nice. It would be a good alternative to regular black. I have been wearing Smashbox Jet Set Eyeliner in Dark Chocolate when I want a subtler look.

These look interesting to me: Amazonian Clay SmolderEyes Eyeliner in Fig, EmphasEyes Waterproof Clay Cream Shadow in Shimmering Taupe. That blush is also beautiful but I had enough blushes lately so I’ll skip it 😀

I’m loving the goodness of Tarte more and more. The liner stays on all day too. You look great Karen.; Keep up the good work!

Good GOD I want this kit. Like, hardcore.

In terms of bad TV show habits… I’ve developed a horrid addiction to the Merlin series. Yes, Merlin. It is a childrens TV show. With a medieval theme.

Damn the medieval theme. I gets me ever time. *sigh*
