These Tokidoki Royal Pride Safari Bobbi Pins Are Bringing Bobbies Back

August 3rd, 2011 by Karen 46 Comments

I’m totally using my new Lloyd Christmas bangs as an excuse to go buck wild explore new developments in the hair accessories department, and this new mission of mine took me to Sephora.

I went under the guise of finding something to hold my bangs in place and bumped into these packs of (adorable) limited edition Tokidoki Royal Pride Safari Bobbi Pins and Heart & Cross Bones Bobbi Pins ($9 each).

So cute!

But when I stepped up to the register with them, what ensued was a lovely reminder of my age…

Sales clerk: “Aww, these are super cute!”
Me: “I know, right!?”
Sales clerk: “Are these for your daughter?”
Me: “Uh…not exactly. (I wonder if I should tell her about my cat.)
Sales clerk: “Oh… You’re buying them for yourself?”
(Insert long pause.)
Me: “Yup.”

LOL! Not gonna lie — I kinda wanted to pinch her (lightly) with my 36-year-old toes.

Back to the bobbies! I’ve been using them to pin back my bangs when I work out or when my forehead gets itchy.

I like the look. I think it’s sassy and spunky, and because the pins are nice and tight, they hold Lloyd Christmas firmly in place.

So much cooler and cuter than basic bobby pins, for sure.

PRICE: $9 for each pack
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

Whoa-oh! We’re half way there…

(Whoa-oh! Livin’ on a prayer!)

Sometimes you just feel the need to quote Bon Jovi on a hump day morning. There’s no point in trying to understand why.

Have a fantastic Wednesday, my friend! I’ll try to do the same. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

These are darn cute! I’d buy them. I wouldn’ t wear them outside the house, but I’d buy them :).

Your story reminds me of my attempts at buying a Hello Kitty toaster at Target last December. They were up on a shelf that was very high (you know it was high when 5’ 10” me couldn’t reach it), so I had to ask a salesperson to get it down for me. Salesperson: “Aw, this is so cute! Is it for your daughter?” Me: “ Um, no . . .” Salesperson: “Your niece?” Me: “No.” Salesperson (sounding nervous) . . . “Friend’s daughter?” Me: “It’s for nobody’s child. It’s for me. 31-year-old me. Can you please get it down from the shelf now?” Salesperson: Shoots me look like I’m a perv or something 🙂

Happy Hump Day, Karen! This funny post definitely helps me feel more than halfway to the weekend. I think your style is so elegant and sophisticated, I was surprised you’d go for the Tokidoki, too. But I ain’t judgin’; I have a way more immature sense of style and I’m 28. I’m kind of dreading the day I get asked if my cute Tokidoki stuff is for my kid… I think I’d have to blow a raspberry at the SA 😛

I think it’s fun to switch up your style ever once in a while. 🙂 28 is a great year, btw… I remember it rockin’!

i know right? i mean — its scorching hot here nowadays (were hitting the 100s, and w/ heat indiex, it feels like 110) … i still prefer that to freezing cold though!

The bobbi pins are super cute!!! But crazy expensive!!! I mean, I can get like a hundred of them for a dollar at the dollar store… The price is definitely a huge turn-off.

I have a ton of plain ones (more than I can count), but I figured these would be fun to switch things up. 🙂 I do wish they were cheaper, though.

I really love their packaging. I think it’s spunky and cute without being too Toddlers and Tiaras, if you know what I mean.

And LOL about 30s being the new tweens!

Now I seriously curse Sephoras here, they don’t carry any of these cute things, grr! Also, that lady at the register sure deserves some pinching! Sometimes people say things like “act like a grown up! you still look like a teenager!” to me and I say “oh, jealous?” hehee 😀 I think they’re afraid of showing the age they’re feeling, so they took it all out on us. And Bon Jovi! I couldn’t go to their concert here T.T

I have one too many Bon Jovi hits from the ’80s in my iTunes. Do you remember the acoustic version of Dead or Alive that they did on MTV? Hello, awesome.

O..M..G.. I saw Bon Jovi in Vegas in March and it was AWESOME. Jon Bon Jovi is sooooo hot. The show totally kicked arse. First time I saw him in concert believe it or not. You totally need to try to go to a show if you have the chance.

tee hee! Lloyd Christmas! I remember my sister playing Dumb & Dumber on repeat when we were little just to bug the heck out of me. I don’t know why I didn’t just leave the room. Stubbornness? I guess without this sisterly love, I wouldn’t be able to quote large passages from the movie.

That Sephora girl just wished she was brave enough to buy or wear them! –how much you wanna bet she stashed a few to buy later on on her break 😉

The pins are adorable! You took the high road, as far as I’m concerned. I probably would have made snide comment about something she was wearing: “Ooh, I saw your same earrings in the QVC clearance event; I hope you got the free shipping.” or “My grammie has those same shoes!” LOL!

Anyway, I have a Tokidoki purse and duffle bag from LeSportsac and I love them. It’s my absolute favorite bag to carry and I’m 37! I get compliments on it all the time. Tokidoki is just plain fun.

DH and I high fived last night on being immature and never being “old”. We are both 36 and you should see my Adventure Time shirts!!

Also when you are going through a heavy time in your life, it’s hard to watch drama on tv. I switched back to light tv and cartoons when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. It works for me and thats all that matters.

I love Tokidoki so I love these. Bobby pins never stay in my hair, though, so I don’t know how I could wear these. I would especially want unicorn Tokidoki barrettes. Hmmm.
