Team Taupe Takes Home the Silver in the New Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Fauve

September 6th, 2011 by Karen 3 Comments

Doth shimmery taupe eyeshadows make thy booty shake? If colors like MAC Satin Taupe make you want to drop it like it’s hot, better limber up, young lady, because Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Fauve ($28.50) is going to ask you to dance.

Fauve, which I keep wanting to pronounce “Farv,” as in Brett, is one of four Soft Touch eyeshadow singles in the new Chanel Sophisticated Eye collection.

Like Satin Taupe’s 21-year-old cousin, shimmery taupe Fauve is a bit of a party girl. Her fab flecks of silver glitter distinguish her from everyday workhorse shades, and when I swatched the shadow at the counter last week, I must have sounded like a hungry Homer Simpson when I spontaneously said, “Mmmmmm… glitter.”

A touch less pigmented and consequently softer on the eyes than Satin Taupe when applied, Fauve seems a little easier to blend to me, but by applying it with a wet eyeshadow brush, the shadow is still easy to intensify.

No need to worry about fallout, either, as I swept Fauve on my lids yesterday before heading to the mall. Six hours later — the Cheesecake Factory for lunch, Nordies to look for shoes, and then the bookstore to browse beauty magazines — I didn’t spot a single wayward sprinkle on my face, and the color itself looked just as rich and smooth as it did the moment it was applied.

Oh, and check this out…

Chanel Soft Intense Eye Look

It’s a look I came across on the Chanel website called “Soft Intense,” and it features Fauve.

Pretty, yeah? I think I might give it a try later this week, ideally before a dinner date with El Hub. A layer of dark brown eyeshadow beneath Fauve gives the eye its smoky effect; the rosy lips and cheeks complete the overall look.

Now, since Fauve hails from Coco’s house, it’s not exactly cheap, but I think it delivers on quality (and verve).

A great shadow to reach for when I want a look that’s classy without a lot of fuss.

PRICE: $28.50
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Chanel counters, in stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (I love it but wish it were cheaper)

Sure love that brown bread…

Okay, so I hadn’t been to Cheesecake Factory in ages, but yesterday when I spotted their huge sign at the mall, I started craving the brown bread they serve before meals.

You know the one. It usually comes with some regular French bread, too.

Oh, did you know that CF now has a reduced calorie menu called Skinnylicious? I don’t know if it’s new, but I got this trio of shrimp soft tacos that I thought were beyond great.

Anywho, doesn’t today feel a lot like a Monday? What’s up with that? 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I just can’t get behind Chanel’s single eyeshadows since I know I’m getting a better deal with their quads (not always on quality or intensity, but on variety for the price). That food looks good. And I like the color but would still need a darker color or pencil to line the eye, which is usually where the other colors in the quad come in. Food. But it looks great on you. Food!! Shrimp tacos.

Oh god, my stomach has taken over my brain…
