$28 Works Out to Half Off Pacifica’s Magic Carpet Ride

November 14th, 2011 by Karen 39 Comments

pacifica magic carpet ride (9)

There’s no doubt about it: I’m slowly turning into my mother, and there are moments when it hits me, like after I’ve clipped a great coupon (score!) or cleaned the oven and felt an overwhelming sense of joy.

Magic carpet ride?I had one of those moments the other day when I spotted the new Pacifica Magic Carpet Ride body butter set ($28).

Limited edition for the holidays, it comes with three of my favorite Pacifica scents. The first one, Island Vanilla, has a hint of tea and a grown-up twist. The second one, Indian Coconut Nectar, makes me hungry for warm vanilla cake with coconut frosting and dulce de leche drizzled on top (OH, GAWD!). And sniffing the third one, Tuscan Blood Orange, with its fresh, sparkling notes of blood orange, mandarin, strawberry and raspberry, causes my taste buds to tingle.

I’ve been a fan of Pacifica’s Body Butters for years! Not just the three scents that come in this set, but also others in the line; I’ve lost track of how many of the tubes I’ve gone through in that time.

At their regular price, which is $18 each these days, they’re kind of pricey, but I’m such a big fan that I’ll usually overlook the price. They contain a long list of great botanical ingredients that serve to keep the skin on my shins (and elsewhere) from reverting to a scaly reptilian state.

And it’s not just the ol’ marketing trick where the company squirts in a few drops of honeydew so they can call it “natural.” I also like these for what they lack, like parabens, phthalates and propylene glycol, to name just a few of the undesirable frequent fliers we see a lot in products like these.

Tabs would love to see Pacifica release one of these in a seafood scent, but I told him not to hold his breath for that. 🙂 He is happy, though, that the current lineup doesn’t contain any animal ingredients and wasn’t tested on animals.

Considering that this set contains three of Pacifica’s full-size 8-oz. tubes, $28 is a pretty great deal (that is, if you like the scents). They work out to $9.30 each, for a savings of just about 50%. When I did the math in the body care section, I actually pumped my fist Jersey Shore-style, “UH!”

Take that and rewind it back.

I have a feeling that my mom, who proudly wears the badge of cheapskate, would totally agree.

And speaking of that, where did I leave that Ziploc bag filled with candy and tissues…? It must be around here somewhere (she really does do that, LOL!).

PRICE: $28 for three 8-oz. tubes
AVAILABILITY: Available now exclusively at Sephora stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

I tried a couple of different Pacifica body butters at Sephora not too long ago, I found them INCREDIBLY glittery (and I enjoy my fair share of shimmer).. Are all the Pacifica body butters like that?

Nope; I think you may have tried the ones w/the pearl shimmer? The regular ones aren’t shiny at all.

Wow, great saving! I am so my Mother’s daughter in that respect too. I can’t resist (and go out of my way to find) a great deal. Recent e.g. Bite Trio Lippies, $30 for 3, 1 retails as $24 so that’s 1 and more than 3/4 free! I’m on the fence about keeping one, but I can swap it and I still come up trumps!

Way to go following in the footsteps of our Mums! Mine is also the sort who will complain about bad service / overpricing and get a refund / discount / apology. I am happy to emulate someone who is strong enough to stand up for what she believes in and the standards that she holds.

I love that Sephora releases a lot of value sets like this one around the holidays, it’s a nice time for me to try out everything I’ve been lemming 🙂 which is an extremely long list…

I have the Indian Coconut Nectar and I don’t like it at all. It smells great in the tube, but it fades to an unpleasant odor on your skin and it feels less moisturizing than drugstore brands. Maybe the other two have scents that linger a bit longer.

I get both a great scent and lots of moisture with the Indian Coconut Nectar; I guess it’s one of those scents that reacts differently to body chemistry.

What drugstore brand lotions/body butters do you like? I’m a fan of Burt’s Bees, myself.

The same thing happened to me on the coconut as well. Although it was moisturizing on me, the smell morph turned me off.

The only Pacifica scent that turned funky on me was the Tahitian Gardenia. Love it in the tube, but on my body it smells like parsley.

For drugstore, it’s CeraVe cream for winter and lotion for summer. There’s no scent, but man oh man, are they moisturizing. When I’m desperate, I go for First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream or Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Hand Cream. The latter two are the only things that make my raggedy cuticles presentable.

What I’d love is for Pacifica to turn their Persian Rose scent into a body cream and for the scent to be available at Sephora! Jo Malone has the best rose scent (doesn’t smell old lady at all), but it’s a little much for my budget these days.

CeraVe is good stuff. I used the lotion last summer and liked it a lot.

I haven’t tried Pacifica Persian Rose yet. I do love rose scents, though, so I’ll try to track it down and give it a sniff. Thanks for the rec. 🙂

BTW, have you ever tried their Malibu Lemon Blossom? That’s another good one.

Awesome! I think you might like them. If you can’t quite commit to an entire bottle, you might want to try a travel size one first. They usually have them near the registers.

Putting it on my Christmas list! By the way you describe the vanilla lotion it sounds like its has something a little extra to tingle your senses than a regular vanilla scented lotion. I love citrus and coconut scents so this is a great deal for me. Thanks for sharing, Karen!

You’re welcome, Emerald. I’m super picky about vanilla scents (a lot of them are either too sweet or make me smell like Play-Doh!) and this by far is the best I’ve tried. I hope it works for you.

I haven’t tried Pacifica yet…and I am trying to hold back! I am a body butter hoarder and I currently have a huge stock of Body Shop body butters (and some others) that I told myself I have to get through before purchasing any more.

I think I’m gonna go back and get this one. I recently picked up a $28 kit that was Tahitian Gardenia Body Butter, Bath/Shower Gel and a little roller ball parfume. I love it! They also had the same kit with just the Blood Orange scent.
