You’re Sheer to Find A Season’s Worth of Pretty in Clinique’s New Holiday Palette for Eyes, Lips and Cheeks

November 28th, 2011 by Karen 43 Comments

clinique a season's worth of pretty (15)

How much pretty did Clinique squeeze into their new 13-piece holiday palette for eyes, lips and cheeks? Well, judging by the name they gave it, I’d say around “A Season’s Worth.”

The cool tones and neutral shades in the new $37 palette have a distinctly festive feel that reminds me of caroling and getting snuggles from Tabs. They’re the kinds of colors I can see myself wearing with scarves, boots and mittens wrapped around mugs of piping hot cocoa, yet they seem timeless enough to make the transition from winter to spring, and maybe even summer.

More than 20 years ago (egad!) I followed Clinique through a gateway that led to the World of Makeup! There, I found wonders like MAC and NARS, and yet even with such tantalizing temptations teasing my senses, I regularly return to my roots with Clinique.

I’ve never strayed for long from their easy, classic approach to color, even though their makeup, in particular their eyeshadows and blushes, hasn’t always been what I’d call cutting edge.

The reason? Because they make things easy. Sometimes I just think it’s quicker to go with Clinique’s sheer-to-medium pigment than with something richer from someone else. That, and when I wear Clinique, I know that I won’t have to worry about looking overdone.

To fill a Season’s Worth of Pretty, the palette comes with five Butter Shine Lipsticks, four Color Surge Eye Shadow Soft Shimmers, one Colour Surge Eye Shadow Super Shimmer and three Blushing Blush Powder Blushes — most of them cool and neutral colors, but I also see a smattering of warm shades. On my NC42 tan, several of the blushes and eyeshadows apply with sheer-to-medium intensity, which usually says to me that they’ll pop even brighter on gals with lighter skin.

With 13 pieces in the palette, the price works out to about $2.84 per pan. A pretty good value, especially if you like the way you look in cool/neutral shades and don’t like to wrestle with your makeup.

Might be the perfect gift for a beauty beginner, or a busy college student or mom. A Season’s Worth of Pretty is sure to brighten someone’s day. 🙂

Highlights from my first photography gig

I finally got the chance to download the pics from my BFF’s son’s baptism (aka, my first photography gig!) last Saturday.

It was a beautiful ceremony, and the babies — there were several of them getting baptized at the same time — oh, the babies! They were so adorable.

Nicolas was the perfect model…

His “Outfit of the Day”

The grandmas and godparents

I see you, Nicolas!

A shot of the ceremony

This kid sure loves the camera!

The happy family

What a lovely day, and I learned so much! I think I prefer to take more in-the-moment pics than staged ones (“Say cheese!”). It just seems more intimate and genuine.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

What a cute baby! I love babies and I also love the palettes, especially the lip palette. Those lips colours are really calling my name! It’s a bit of a bummer how collections comes out so much earlier in the USA than in the UK so I’ll be waiting for a while until I can get my hands on it 🙁

Thanks, Crystal! That’s my favorite fall/early winter jacket. It looks very cute layered on top of hoodies, believe it or not.

It’s a great jacket, I need to find something like that! My Thanksgiving was great, my husband feeds 25 people so it was busy! I hope you had a great weekend-this week feels strange getting back into the swing of things that is.

I may have to get my hands on this….Clinique almost NEVER does lipsticks other than Bamboo Pink, a Different Grape or Raspberry Glace lately! (Oh, and Tenderheart.)

Those pictures look great! The kid is SUCH a cutie.

Your skin looks so great! Which foundation are you wearing?

Nicholas is such a cute baby. This year, a lot of people I know (many are friends or old classmates) are either pregnant or had a baby. I guess I’m Auntie Chrissy to these babies. 😛

      Hi Chris,

I’m wearing MAC Studio Sculpt in NC40 w/MAC Strobe Cream layered beneath and Tarte Provocateur Pressed Mineral Powder in Honey on top.

Random — I just re-discovered the Tarte powder and am really loving it. It soaks up oil, doesn’t break me out and covers everything without looking heavy.

What foundation are you liking these days?

I have to try that Tarte powder.

Lately I’ve been quite impressed with Revlon Colorstay for Oily Skin in Golden Caramel. It makes my skin look so flawless, and I don’t even need to set it with a powder!

I like Adore U and Sunset Glow. I also like your jacket and tee. Actually, I like your clothes more than the makeup. Which are they?

The baby pictures are cute. The best part is that the baby doen’t know what’s going on.

I have a couple of Clinique eyeshadow duos but they are a bit sheer and I love my pigmented shades so I don’t get around to using the sheer ones much. I do however love Clinique’s eyeliners in Black Diamond and Egyptian. They work with any eyeshadow.

Looking awesome Karen. You always take great photographs. That kid is going to be a heartbreaker 🙂

I think after seeing all the baby photos, I almost forint to comment on the Clinique palette. 😉
Well, the whole palette really looks nice, with the big and small baubles. But the eyeshadows are indeed too sheer. would have picked this up for my love of palettes, but this one, I will pass.

It would be a great gift for a makeup newbie. I know I would’ve over the moon if I received it when I was 15!

What makeup are you rocking today? I’m about to work out and then I’m probably gonna either do some NARS or Chanel.

same here — i wish a set like this was available when relatives were giving me makeup for Christmas. 😀 i swear i was positively swimming in Bonne Bell when i was a teen! 😀

im wearing a taupe mufe aqua cream, with some moonlight night pigment by mac patted on top of it, and just some park ave princess bronzer on my cheeks. ive eaten the last of my lipstick, so ill reapply that after lunch. i have viva glam 1 lipgloss in my purse today for that!

Oh, I know! There seems to be so many teen/tween products out now that I would’ve loved back in the day. It seems like a lot of makeup companies are doing stuff that skews to a younger crowd; I can especially see it at Sephora!

Hey, I think I have that taupe MUFE Aqua Cream and looooove it. 😀

I could see myself using this palette often for daytime. Here in Maine a laid back look seems to prevail, also there are lots of barefaced beauties… so sheer is a good choice for this area.

    Love the baby pics!
