$6 NYX Liquid Black Liner Doesn’t Skip a Beat

December 10th, 2011 by Karen 21 Comments

NYX liquid black liner (3)

Over the course of playing with testing the new NYX Liquid Black Liner ($6), I discovered a few interesting things, like how the slender brush lays down rich, pitch perfect lines, or how the formula never skips a beat.

The thin brush is firm enough to draw precise lines with, but not so inflexible that it doesn’t feel smooth as it glides along soft skin.

I also learned the limits of this liner’s longevity. While it isn’t waterproof and will fade if I rub vigorously at my eyes (boo!), it’s able to last all day long and through most of the night — even through a late-night living room dance-athon to Jessie J.’s Domino — as long as I keep my hands away from it.

On balance, I think its plusses, one of which is its $6 price, make NYX Liquid Black Liner a drugstore gem. 🙂

PRICE: $6
AVAILABILITY: Available now at drugstores, Ulta stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+/A- (NYX could take it to the next level by making it water- and smudge-proof)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Go on and bust a move, Karen!

I don’t tend to rub my eyes so this might work out well for me!

The fact that it’s so cheap AND lasted through a late night dance-athon surely makes this worth it! And I love how the line is actually very dark black, unlike some of the grey-blacks out there.

Looks like you were having too much fun testing this liner. It probably gave you that “shame of walk look” (you know what I mean) since it wasn’t smudge proof 🙂

I need this. For some bizarre reason, among the hundreds of products I have, I do not own a single black liquid liner. What is wrong with me?!

I saw the NYX Collection Black on Cherry Culture, and the Skinny Black Eyeliner is now in my shopping cart!

Your dance screen grab pics look amazing- how do you do it. By the way, also love the tiny little cat eye flick you managed to do with this liner. I’m not one for liquid liners (sometimes they feel itchy on me) but love learning about all types of makeup on your blog.
    Thanks for all you do.

So do you think these are better or worse than the NYC Studio liners? I loff the studio liners but my black one dried up on me.

It looks nice but my drugstore GEM & what.u really need to try is the wet n wild megaliner liquid liner!! @$2.99 its is the blackest most awesome long lasting liquid liner I have ever tried! (Even compared to Estee Lauder, lqncome, etc). Try it u will never go back 🙂 what I.like the most is it come in a paint pot n the.brush is soft and h can make the line as thin or as thick as u want
(Think of when ur applying nail polish how u can clean off as much product as h want before u apply to control the thickness of each layer and the shape.of.the.brush :-))

If NYX’s stuff didn’t make my skin freak out I would so try this to get over my fear of liquid liners.

I tried their colored liners and they itched horribly. The colors were nice but the liner went on almost like a film and came extremely easily, leaving me with flakes of purple all over my face. 🙁 seems like this one was a lot better though

HAHA! Love your dance party! Quick question – can you do a cat eye with pencil liner or must it be liquid? I know I could try this out myself but I’m at an age where I like to avoid potential makeup disasters whenever possible. 🙂
