NARS Unsung Heroes: Night Star Eyeshadow

December 13th, 2011 by Karen 37 Comments

It’s holiday party time! — but if you’re a busy gal with too many emails to answer and a to-do list longer than your arm, getting ready to party may be the last thing on your mind. If it is, perhaps NARS Night Star Eyeshadow can help.

Now, you know me when it comes to wearing color on my eyes — I love it! But I also like the versatility of neutral shades, and that’s the side of me that $23 Night Star excites. An eyeshadow single in the NARS permanent line, it’s a sheer peach with a golden glitter kick — a perfect pick for office parties this time of year.

When I want to brighten my lids and give a golden sparkle to my eyes, this is the color I grab.

I realize that it’s not easy to gauge how the glitter captures the light in the pics (I tried!), but I think the shade is much more sparkly in person than it appears here. This is one of NARS’ quieter colors, and because of that it probably won’t appeal to everyone, but if you have a thing for sheer neutrals with flecks of mid-volume golden glitter, give NARS Night Star a try.

I’ve heard from some makeup lovers who have issues with fallout while wearing Night Star, and I’ve experienced it, too. I get my best results with it when I wear it atop a very sticky primer, like a MAC Paint Pot (Soft Ochre’s my fave to wear with this shade), and apply it by patting the shadow on my lids with a finger, instead of a brush.

And then if a little glitter does happen to go astray, it’s usually isolated to the tops of my cheeks, luckily looking like a highlighter that I purposefully placed. 🙂

The NARS Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorite products from the NARS permanent collection
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Mata Hari Blush
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Luster Blush
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Lovejoy Blush
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Amour Blush
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Gothika Lipgloss
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Night Star Eyeshadow
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Madly Blush
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Dolce Vita Lipstick
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: Greek Holiday Lipgloss
  • NARS Unsung Heroes: The Kalahari Eyeshadow Duo

In Detective Stabler news…

First, good morning and happy Tuesday, beauty lover. 🙂 Second, be still my beating heart! There’s talk of Christopher Meloni, former Law & Order SVU hottie Detective Stabler, being courted by HBO to star in True Blood.

Um, are you kidding me!? Please let it be! Whoever came up with this idea deserves a big hug and a medal.

I could see Chris taking on the role of a blood-boiling vamp. Homeboy would rock a set of fangs! I know that I’d gladly offer him a vein (well…).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

You look beautiful! Although, when I heard “Night Star” I didn’t expect beige. Blue, yes. Dark blue, definitely. Not beige, by that name.

Hahaha the fangs on that guy! Love it.
This NARS color is really pretty. Thanks for letting me know about the fallout, but I think it’s worth it too. Neutral singles get overlooked too often.

Look at you! If you’re ever thinking “hey, which eyeshadow is going to make me look really young, alert and super-well-rested”, grab that Night Star, sister! You look fabulous!

In other NARS related news, I was putting on my blush the other day and was like “I didn’t know there was any silver glitter in Orgasm. Oh, wait, there’s not. That’s the pan.” HAHA! I hope you’re having a good week so far. I like the idea of CM and True Blood and agree that he’d be a great, charming-yet-violent vamp.

I was actually going to email you about this color if I didn’t “see” you today. I know you love your glitter! 😀

BTW, congrats on hitting the pan on Orgasm. That’s exciting! I take it it’s your everyday cheek color?

As for Det. Stabler, you pretty much summed up what he does best — ” charming-yet-violent.”

I’m definitely going to check it out since ’tis the season for glitter. I’m planning to be on vacation from the 19th – 2nd so I should have time to so some makeup shopping (and visit more often)! 🙂

Yes, it’s my everyday blush – I’m so glad you turned me on to it!!

I think I need this eye shadow. I don’t even mind a little fallout because, like you said, it usually lands on the tops of your cheeks where it’s very flattering.

You might be able to use it as a highlight, Gio. Or maybe in inner corners? I think it could contrast your brights quite nicely.
