Sonia Kashuk Went All Out Glam on Her Latest 6-Piece Brush Set

December 14th, 2011 by Karen 30 Comments

Sonia Kashuk Holiday 2011

Neat! Now here’s a brush kit that caught my eye. Of course, it’s hard to miss something with so many sparkles. 🙂

What an interesting selection of brushes in Sonia’s new All Out Glam 6-Piece Brush Set ($24.99) for faces, cheeks and eyes! I see a few brushes here that I can’t recall ever seeing before in a holiday brush kit, like the synthetic-fiber domed face brush, which I like for applying under-eye concealer, and the synthetic-fiber eye/concealer brush, which looks to me like a skinnier, stretched out version of the MAC 219.

How they perform

Performance-wise, I think the pointed face brush does a bang-up job applying concealer under my eyes; it seems like it’s the perfect shape and size (not too big or small). I also like the blush/face brush, even though it feels a tad scratchy to me.

The skunk brush, which I’ve tried with cream, powder and liquid products, likes to shed and leaves streaks behind, so it’s not my favorite of the bunch, and I think the eye brushes are just okay overall. I think they do deposit and blend products well enough, but like the blush/face brush, also feel a bit abrasive on my skin.

Construction

As much as I dig the blend of brushes Sonia put together for this kit, the brushes themselves don’t strike me as Sonia’s sturdiest to date. The skunk brush refuses to stop shedding bristles, and the ferrule on the pointed synthetic-fiber eye/concealer brush came loose the first time I used it.

Oh, well… At least the sparkly handles will look cute standing up in a glass on my windowsill, and I definitely plan to use the cute clutch for parties.

PRICE: $24.99 (on sale now for $22.99 online)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day, makeup matey! 🙂 I had a good time at the holiday party last night but wasn’t out too late. Honestly, I was in a rush to get home to watch the latest ep of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

I know, I know… But I can’t help myself! I’m hooked.

It looks nice! I like the sparkles and the glitter, but for daily use I would still prefer wooden handles:)

The Sonia Kashuk brush set remind me of MAC’s recent holiday brush sets. I’m not a fan of brush sets because I have way too many brushes already. If I do buy brush sets, there will be at least 2 or 3 brushes that I don’t need. I prefer to buy brushes individually. =)

That’s what I like about them too. A girl could always use a little extra sparkle (even if it’s with her brush handles).

Not one hundred percent on the look, personally. SK brushes are the BOMB, though.

The design is pretty, but I prefer function over fashion. 🙂

I love it when both function and fashion merge together… if you’re going use something every day, it might as well be pretty! 😀

Very pretty, but too bad they are not the best quality.

P.S. I heard it’s official that Chris Meloni is joining True Blood as a series regular!

I always hear fantastic things about Sonia Kashuk brushes, so I was surprised to hear that this set wasn’t so great. And to be totally honest, I was a little relieved that a new lemming wasn’t created because, being Canadian, I don’t have access to this brand. So now I can scratch this item off my list and save some money! Thanks, Karen, for your honest review!

    Hi Karen,
great post. They truly look great , but when it comes to brushes, the quality is much more important. Thanks for the warning, I was thinking of buying them ( this price sound nice for 6 pack set) but as I have said, the quality comes first.

      Hi Daca,

If you want tos pend a little more, then you might want to consider MAC brushes. They’re pricey, but I have some that are 10 years old that are still going strong!

What a bummer! They’re lovely brushes, but who wants scratchy? 🙂

Ooh, that’s exciting about Chris. Who is he slated to play? Have they said? Sorry, I could google this myself, I know. 🙂

He’s supposed to play an older vampire (older than Eric, even). Not gonna lie, I hope he plays a shirtless older vampire…

That show is like empty sugar calories for my brain! 🙂 I got sucked in with a marathon a while back… there’s so much drama. Have you seen this week’s yet with Pandora’s bachelorette party?

Lol, empty calories for my brain. So good. I did watch this week’s–those ladies get such a VIP treatment in Vegas, wow. It was nice nobody ruined her bachelorette party with drama, actually because that’s how so many of those nights end!

Some of the limited edition stuff hasn’t been the best. I still do love my Sonia bent liner brush, though. Have you tried it?

Too bad. I was considering these brushes. I recently gave up a lot of shimmer and bling in my makeup and was hoping these brushes would console me. I’m addicted to the housewives too. My guilty pleasure.

You left a party early to watch Real Housewives? C’mon, you’re not that old! And that’s what a DVR is for! LOL!

My New Year’s Resolution (one of them anyway) is to start investing in really really good make up brushes. I think I’ll be passing on these, but the handles are really great! They’d be perfect in the morning, a little sparkle to get the day started. But I can’t handle shedding!

LOL, I did! And let me tell you — all I wanted to do was put on my jammies and eat ice cream. Seriously, I’m turning into a Cathy comic.

What makeup brushes are you thinking about investing in?
