Beauty Sleep, Interrupted

August 19th, 2008 by Karen 82 Comments

G’morning, girls! I hope you got your beauty sleep last night. I was up late partying with C. Bale (I wish; don’t tell El Hub, LOL!).

Tabs says hi! He’s in the doghouse today because he was naughty yesterday. He kicked kitty litter all over the floor and felt like meowing all night long.

With my help he put together this little story that he hopes you enjoy. 🙂

The Beauty Benefits of Milk

In addition to promoting better sleep, milk’s beauty-related benefits include…
BONES: Milk can significantly reduce the risk of bone disease and fractures.
PMS: Calcium may reduce the symptoms of PMS (PMS symptoms reduced after three months for a majority of women taking 1,200 mg of calcium per day).
SLEEP: Milk helps promote better sleep.
TEETH: Milk helps reduce the risk of cavities (with normal brushing, flossing, check-ups and cleanings).
HAIR: Milk helps promote healthy hair.
MUSCLES: Milk helps rebuild muscles.
NAILS: Milk helps with stronger nails.

Try These Milk Beauty Recipes

Milk has been used throughout history as a beauty treatment. OG beauty diva Cleopatra was famous for taking milk baths for her skin. Here are a few easy, do-it-yourself milk beauty recipes to try at home. NOTE: If you’re allergic to milk or are lactose intolerant, you should skip these!

1. A Milk Bath for Smooth, Soft Skin

Add 2-4 cups of fresh milk or buttermilk to your bathwater as you fill the tub. Soak for 20 minutes. Gently rub with a washcloth or loofa to slough away dead skin. Rinse thoroughly after soaking.

2. A Gentle Facial Scrub

Gently massage your face with a mixture of one teaspoon of powdered whole milk and one teaspoon of honey. Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.

3. A Makeup Remover

Grab a small bowl and mix together one tablespoon of whole milk with a few drops of sweet almond oil. Gently dab the milk and oil mixture onto your face with a cotton ball or pad. Then, using a fresh piece of cotton, wipe away your makeup. Rinse thoroughly with water.

Thanks to some warm milk, I did manage to get my beauty sleep last night. 🙂

I hope you had a great night. Are you ready to tackle Tuesday with me?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

This is me EVERY NIGHT! My cat, Bullitt, wakes up at 4 or 5 AM and he feels I should be up too, so he comes and does whatever it takes to wake me up (licks my face, chews on my hair, bites my nose) Beauty sleep is a thing of the past for me… thank goodness for makeup!

I did not realize Tabs is such a big cat. He’s as big as your upper body. Who took all of the pictures? The close-up of Tabs is adorable. And btw, how can a cat be in a dog house? That’s just a rhetoric question, you don’t need to answer 😉

I feel your pain, on occasion my cat likes to be obnoxious (like at 4 o’clock this morning) and he jumps up on my bed and runs across the top of my pillow. Occasionally he’ll just plop down on my head. It’s pretty ridiculous and drives my BF nuts. 😛

    Karen!

That cat is too cute! I love the story. 😀 I’m lactose-intolerant, so I can’t enjoy too many of the tips, but it’s a fun read nonetheless. I don’t have a cat, but my family has a dog and, whenever I visit, she pretty much does the same thing until I tuck her into bed with me (lol) so I’m with you on the sleep thing.

Have you guys officially adopted Tabs yet? 🙂

I have heard of milk with almond oil as a cleanser and I think that’s the only way I’ll get milk near me. I don’t drink milk, haven’t done so for over two years for my voice. It causes a lot of slime on my vocal chords which is a big no-no for singing classes and my college (I follow English and Music and have a lot of choir classes and stuff). I do drink soy chocolate milk with extra calcium to get my protein fix.

Lol. It’s not concotions for me but just being careful what I eat/drink. vocal hygiëne is important to me as it does make a BIG difference. There are singers for whom it hardly matters but unfortunatly I’m not one of them. So no coffee (don’t like it anyways), no milk, limit soda (anything sparkling really) and alcohol (I just don’t drink it at all) and I should hold off the chocolate which is very bad for your voice but I refuse to give that up. lol. Even I have my limits 😉
