Better for Beauty: Facebook or Twitter?

May 12th, 2009 by Karen 65 Comments

Best for Beauty: Facebook or Twitter?

Tweet much? Do you Facebook?

I feel like I’m the last person in America who isn’t on Twitter. I am on Facebook, though, but I haven’t used it much.

I want to. I’ve been thinking about getting more into Facebook or Twitter but should probably pick just one so I don’t bite off more than I can chew with two services and the blog at the same time.

Which do you like more, Facebook or Twitter? Which is a better resource for makeup and beauty? — that’s what I’d really like to know.

Which is better for makeup and beauty, Facebook or Twitter?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Sorry, homies, about being so quiet today in the comments, but I’ve been sick as a dog since last night with food poisoning. It must have been the leftover steamed pork buns I ate for dinner Monday night…

Now there’s a phrase with red flags painted all over it, LOL!: “It must have been the leftover steamed pork buns I ate for dinner Monday night…”

I voted Twitter because I’m on Twitter and not on Facebook (Must be the last person in the world) but I don’t think either is a “resource” for makeup and beauty. We have to make our own resources 😉 I hope you are feeling better Karen – take lots of water and rehydration salts if you’ve been purging.

I hope you get well soon, Karen!! I’ve had food poisoning before and you really just have to hang in there! Don’t forget to replenish anything your body expels, especially if you’re purging. Gatorade is always a safe bet as well.

    Again, get well soon!

I think twitter is probably a better beauty resource (I know Zoya tweets their sales, etc), but I only have a Facebook account.

I think Facebook is preferable to Twitter. However, I found quite an interesting article on comparing the two:

So sorry your sick. Hopefully it is just food poisoning (sounds weird, but that usually doesn’t last too long).

I like twitter better because some companies do their sales that way. I got the last 2 Zoya collections yesterday free with purchase of their color lock system because I follow them on twitter. The blogs are really a better “resource,” though.

I am actually on both Twitter and Facebook. I voted for Twitter. The thing is that I think more people are on Facebook than Twitter, but I think that Twitter is like a million times better for bloggers. Facebook is like look up a million people you know from way back when and see what they’re up to from time to time kinda thing to me. Twitter is like real time updates and messages…it’s not like all about who you are and your life accomplishments with pictures of the fam you know? Plus the twitter mobile updates to the phone are awesome. To be honest though…you should probably have both.

Gah, I’m afraid I’ll eventually have to do both… it seems like everyone is on twitter. I always assumed it would be just a bunch of random updates like, “I’m eating asparagus for dinner,” but I guess it’s good for networking.

I don’t facebook or twitter. There is just no time for it in my hectic life. The little bit of time I have each day to do some personal web surfing is spent visiting beauty blogs. For me, that has been where I feel best served getting my beauty info & fix.

I think Twitter would be an awesome thing for you. A lot of the other makeup bloggers have twitter and it makes it easy to keep up with them (especially at work when you probably can’t be viewing all these makeup blogs). It’s also good to tell people about deals you find or interesting pics you see on all your adventures!

Plus, I think you’ve got the personality for twitter (if that makes sense) you seem to do a lot of cool things throughout your day and your readers would probably be interested in knowing that stuff… if you want to tell them! I would TOTALLY follow you! =D

Hope you feel better soon Karen. I had the same feeling on Monday.. NOT COOL. When you can eat again, try some fruit. They are easy on the tummy and feel kinda refreshing to eat.

Hmm. I think that if anything facebook could work as a resource just because of the plethora of applications you can add onto your page. But a lot of youtube gurus use twitter to talk to subscribers about beauty or other things happening in the moment. But since you don’t like instant messaging I don’t know if you’d enjoy it very much…

I would love it if you were on Facebook!! I think it’s a great resource. I’m a “fan” of Sephora on Facebook and also of Stila. I get product updates there and also notifications for deals. It’s great! IMO, I also think it’s better than Twitter only because I can see all the pictures and get a “full” picture of what’s new.

I use both Facebook and Twitter and they really are like totally different mediums. Twitter is SO great for picking up things that you never would have known. I learn all kinds of neat tips and information and you get breaking news FAST.

Facebook can be useful for those things as well, but it’s not as up to the minute. It’s also not as user friendly with mobile phones as Twitter is. I have a Facebook account for friends/family and then a separate one for my blog, but really, it just updates posts from my site, I don’t use it much otherwise.

I’ve gotten “tweets” about people going to the dentist and that they just bought a cool highlighter at office depot. Umm yeah, unless you are majorly exciting I would skip the twitter heheheheh. With facebook mobile it’s basically the same thing anyways.

I did Facebook twice then left for good (although its a battle closing the account down and making them remove all my personal data). I am still on Twitter now but it gets time consuming, so I try and keep it for tweeting about my new blog posts. Otherwise you find yourself saying things like….’I had diahorrea today’

I am logged in all day at work and just check it whenever I have time or feel like it. I don’t feel the urge to check it constantly and don’t even log in after 4:00 pm or on weekends.

I think a lot of people who don’t use Twitter don’t really get that the vast majority of people (at least that I follow) do not constantly post things like “My sandwich was dry”, etc. They usually post useful information or cool pics of new things coming out, etc. I don’t follow people who post useless babble. But if you don’t like IM, then you probably won’t like Twitter!

We heart this has both a twitter and facebook and we never use our facebook acct. We auto feed posts into it and it’s just kind of there.

Twitter on the other hand has been really resourceful for making connection (both with other bloggers, new readers and cosmetic companies) and is really kind of fun. I resisted it for ages. But now that we have it up and running I’m so glad we took the plunge.

Hi Karen 🙂 I think Twitter is a better resource for makeup and beauty, and bloggers in general. I’m working on a new blog project at the moment, but with my previous blog Twitter worked great for finding out new information, interacting with readers and other bloggers, and exchanging information with beauty companies. I tried to do both for a while, but it was too much (and a little repetitive). I keep FB for more personal use, rather than blog networking and promotion.

    Hope you feel better!

Facebook and Twitter are two different animals. I’ve been on MySpace since 2005, Twitter since 2007, and Facebook for less than a year. I don’t do much on MS anymore since there was a mass exodus about six months ago, but I check in daily to read my friends’ bulletins if there are any. It took me a while to get into Facebook since I was so used to MS and they are very different, but all my family (and I do mean ALL! Even my mom!) are on FB so I started using it more. I’ve gotten really used to FB now and I actually like it better than MS because it’s more social. What I don’t like about FB is that you can’t use HTML to decorate your page. As far as Twitter, I sent the occasional update when I have something random to say, and no one to say it to. My Twitter is full of random cryptic little messages, but I like it that way. Collectively, these thoughts are quite amusing. I could never do real-time frequent Twitter updates. I would find it incredibly time-consuming and mundane.

What Vampy Varnish said, all three times. The two aren’t really comparable in my mind; Facebook is community oriented while Twitter is about quick dispersion of information.

Facebook has become too bogged down with apps and inane updates; the beauty of Twitter is you only have to follow who you want to. Check out this list, http://technologizer.com/2009/05/11/ten-twitter-mythconceptions/.

As for time consumption, I guess it depends on your surfing style. I’m notorious for opening a million new tabs from Google Reader (all of yours, you’ll be pleased to note!) and now Twitter, so it gives me a heck of a lot of reading material. On the other hand, I’m really learning quite a bit about many topics.
