Urban Decay pink lipsticks from the permanent line, $17 each

Among many other things I’ve been doing this morning (endless laundry; chillin’ with Connor, Tabs, El Hub and Sesame Street; and getting ready to plant half a dozen basil and tomato plants), I’ve been ooh-ing and ah-ing over that beautiful picture up above of model Ruby Rose on the Urban Decay website. She’s wearing a monochromatic pink makeup look with pink lids, pink cheeks and pink lips.

I’ve never tried a top-to-bottom pink look before, but now I want to… I’m a little afraid I’ll end up looking cray, but whatevs. Now I just have to choose the right lip color…

What about deep, creamy fuchsia UD Firebrid??

Weekend plans

What are you up to this weekend? I’m gettin’ fired up because I’m heading to meet my cat-and-makeup-loving bud Stephanie (she has six cats!) for Lunch at Cafe Zazzle in Petaluma. I’ve never been there before, and I was just looking at the menu, because when I go out to eat, homegirl likes to be prepared, because I’m the WORST at ordering food at the last minute. Invariably, feeling the pressure to make a decision, I’ll pick something I don’t want, and then when the server walks away, I’m like, “Shoot… Why did I order that?”

So it’s a thing, and I don’t want to have food envy this time…

I’m also looking forward to getting my roots done after that (YAY!), and then tomorrow I have a baby shower to go to. My friend Mary Anne is going to be a mommy soon, and all I can think about is holding that newborn in my arms! Aaah!!! 🙂

Oh, yeah, in beauty news, here’s some stuff that caught my eye this week…

  • The #makeuphoarder in me wants to get all up on these Clé de Peau Beauté cream blushes. GORGISSIMO!
  • Jouer’s Skinny Dip collection is all about the mad sparkle.
  • How to easily wash your clothes when traveling
  • Speaking of skincare, here are 5 things to try from Kate Somerville
  • Beauty secrets from Mathilde Thomas, founder of Caudalie skincare
  • Seriously, I could spend ALL DAY looking at people’s handwriting.
  • All you wanna-be unicorns ? out there (and I know you’re out there) may enjoy Jessica’s massive roundup of unicorn- AND mermaid-themed beauty tools.
  • I’m always looking for ways to keep my pics fresh, and one of the easiest ways is through props. Here are 48 places to find them (and many of them are affordable!).
  • There are some great Memorial Day sales at Ulta this weekend… I’m just sayin’.
  • Wait — what? Someone’s trying to make sunscreen in the shape of pearls? And by golly, they look super cool!
  • Latest on the list of mascaras I want to hoard — Trish McEvoy’s High Volume Mascara.
  • I’ve been reading and scouring the Interwebs for cutting edge info about skin care lately, and this brand (Derma E) looks great!

AHAs versus BHAs

In my mind, Caroline Hirons and I are BFFS. OBSESSED WITH HER!

Samantha is the cutest. I wanna hang with her and her cat Roux.

Lorde’s brows look INCREDIBLE in this video. Been listening to this song on repeat…

I like this Sam Smith song too.

Hope you have a hella fab Memorial Day weekend. Let me know what you’re up to. Hopefully you get some meow time to relax.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Ruby Rose looks gorgeous! I also like to be prepared when I go out to eat. I hate ordering something I didn’t really want.
    Have a great weekend, Karen!

OMGosh! I’m the same when it comes to ordering food. The joke in my family is “put a menu in front of a starving girl and she wants it all and can’t decide”. Sometimes I’ll voice out loud that I think I ordered the wrong thing and Dear Husband will call the server over and have them change my order. His thought is that it’s better to drive the server and restaurant staff crazy than himself. Lol. Love that man, he’s always got my back.
Love, love, love Caroline Hirons. I swear I want to move to London and find a way to be her friend. She’s so direct, honest and funny.
Not sure I could pull off the top to bottom pink look. I already have pink undertones and I think I’d just end up looking like a scared rabbit, especially with pink around my eyes.
Dear Husband returns home tomorrow morning. Can’t wait to drive to the airport and greet him when he walks out of customs.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

I recently started using Kate Sommerville products. In fact I have that eye cream and I LOVE it, so much that I got her retinol night cream and I’m loving it too.

Nordstrom is having a buy 2 mascaras get 1 free sale right now, I think the Trish McEvoy’s is part of the sale.

I really enjoyed lunch and of course stumbling into a crazy cat lady store!

That handwriting post gave me so much pleasure! I was just in Marshall’s today browsing for photo props. I left empty handed. Definitely checking out some of those places! I hope to one day hold those sunpearls in my hands! 🙂
    Thanks Karen!

Hi, Karen! Eek, I’m trying to play it cool after seeing you mention my idea for SPF 30 Sun Pearls. I call it ball-in-one skincare *knee slap*. Moisturizer+SPF pre-portioned in a pearl to provide the recommended daily dose of sunscreen. For the pearls to move from concept to prototype and eventual production, I need all the votes I can get, so thanks a lot for mentioning them.

And I love Derma E. A natural brand that doesn’t shy away from science or chemicals. I spend way too much time at Whole Foods testing their stuff.

Happy long weekend and hi to Tabs! -Angela

Don’t you just want to say, “Lorde, honey, I know you’re making a Serious Statement and all, but… eyeliner, girl, Eye. Liner. And some lipstick wouldn’t cost you your street cred.” Good grief, even at the height of my flannel-and-workboots-wearing, Green Day-listening phase I’d never leave the house without super-matte maroon lipstick.

I thought of you today when I was out shopping, Karen. I had to run into CVS for some BandAids and there was a big basket of Frida Kahlo lipsticks at the register. If my finger hadn’t been bleeding, I would’ve had to stop to check them out.

HAHA I too google the menus of new cafes and restaurants, just so I’m not surprised. Oh and I also look up reviews, just to be sure I order the “right” things and don’t get nasty surprises! Thank you for sharing my Mathilde Thomas interview Karen. You’re the sweetest! <3 Happy long weekend!

I will say that the Derma E sunscreen I used pilled off terribly, but other than that they have some nice stuff. I just bought one of those crazy Neutrogena light masks that I’m excited to try.

Please, ladies, click on the “sunscreen in the shape of pearls”and vote YES to manufacturing this product! What a freaking great idea! I always overapply sunscreen, knowing that under applying is cheating myself of protection, but how cool would it be to never have to guess?! If this product gets voted in for maufacture, ill buy it in a heartbeat.
