What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

August 2nd, 2009 by Karen 28 Comments

MY BEST: I liked the way my eye makeup turned out yesterday, not that I did anything special with it on. I wore the MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow in Assemblage ($20) quad from the Colour Craft collection. I think the taupe shade’s to die for, but all four colors work together surprisingly well. I wore them with MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack ($15), and I kinda think my eyes looked bangin’. 🙂

MY WORST: Wearing Illamasqua Volume Mascara ($23). So no cute. I love Illamasqua’s lipsticks and blushes, but the mascara left little black flakes everywhere!

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Spill the beans in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I was ridiculous enough to apply MAC’s Fad-Dabulous in the car on the way to work Wednesday morning (while I sick better yet).. wearing SUNGLASSES. Yeah. I ended up looking as red as Ronald McDonald.

BEST: My lips looked amazing the other day. I wore Urban Decay’s Gash lipstick with Sephora’s Bronzed Beauty lipgloss over top.

WORST: I did my eye makeup the same day, and it was an unmitigated disaster. I tried to give Urban Decay’s Purple Haze eyeshadow with their ABC Gum eyeshadow, and another colour that slips my mind at the moment, but it just looked teeeeerrible. So terrible that I actually removed it!

Best: Getting my makeup done at NARS with the Rated R duo. So much fun!

    Worst: Falling asleep with my makeup on and ending up with melted makeup on my arm! Not my best moment. XD;

Best: Doing a GORGEOUS!! yellow-gold and bronzy brown smokey eye on the FIRST try. 😀
Worst: Using my Physician’s Formula powder foundation as an undereye concealer. It looked WAY drag and cakey! I need to apply a lighter layer with a better brush…

Best: My light pink/peach/gold eyeshadow combo

Worst: Putting Maybelline Cooling Shadow/Liner on my inner lash line (waterline)
    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh painful!

best – finally finding some brown eyeshadows that work for me without making m e look dead. i ended up getting bobbi brown java and fawn, both of which are taupey-grey browns.

worst – having a makeup SA put copper eyeshadow on me, which made me look red eyed and tired.

Best? Doing my aunt and cousin’s makeup for a party…they looked great, if I may say so myself 🙂
Worst? Crying Rimmel’s Mousse Eyeshadow off my eyes while watching Michael Moore’s Sicko. If only it were waterproof…sigh.

Will you be showing us the look with Assemblage? It looks so pretty, I may be splurging when it comes down south. Do you think it’s worth it?

Best – Attending an Estee Lauder class at Macy’s and discovering their skin care serums and their new longwear lipsticks (review will be coming soon).

Worst – The pushy ladies at the class. Some were great, some were pushy. I will be griping about this too on my blog. Applying bad makeup is not going to sell a product and the pushy ladies did not apply the makeup well.

Best – actually using my eye make up. I have been using Benefit’s High Brow and Eye Bright since I have been too lazy to do a full face. I rather sleep in a bit more.

Worst – one of the days that I wear the Benefit products mentioned above I forgot the primer and I creased.

Best: Remembering how to wear eyeliner.
I haven’t worn it in MONTHS, so I kinda forgot. Oh, and curling my hair with a straightening iron.

Worst: SMuding it all over the place the first time!

Best: on my birthday using MAC’s natural flare quad, doing a smokey eye and wearing nars torrid blush and red dior addict gloss <3

+ Benefit posietint – best baby pink lips EVER.

worst: after pulling an all nighter, using mac studio fix compact on my dull skin. The result – beige cake frosting.

BEST: monday’s make up, esp on the eyes, made me feel really good: mac’s painterly as base, knight divine on the lid, soba in the crease, and sweet lust to highlight under the brow and at the inner corners. revlon colorstay eyeliner in black and maybelline colossal mascara to finish.

WORST: the rest of the week, til even now, has been dominated by a sudden zit sneak attack unlike any other i’ve had in years. i feel like acne pulled a pearl harbor on my face with zit bombs starting tuesday morning: one on the upper right forehead by the hairline; another in almost the corresponding spot on the left hairline, just higher up; a third zit next to my right ear plus one smack on my chest, three inches above my cleavage. the worst is the one on my left eyelid. who the heck gets a big ole zit on her eyelid??!! totally bizarre that this is happening bcs i rarely have more than one pimple at a time on the entirety of my self. it’s completely aggravating. i blame the exceedingly humid & hot weather we’ve been having the last two weeks. plus work has been especially stressful. *groan*

Best: recreating a super fly summer eye look using urban decay (half-baked, baked, sin, shattered and 24/7 in electric)

Worst: lip gloss allergic reaction. my lips are all puffy and the corners are cracked and owie. I’ve since thrown out the offending gloss (sephora brilliant shine) but this just happened and it takes forever to recover from.

BEST: Creating healthy, perfectly bronzed glow with just a little shimmer. First I used Sally Hansen Natural Beauty inspired by Carmindy Spring Powder Bronzer on the temples swept down on the cheekbones. On the apples of the cheeks, I used Benefit’s Coralista blush. Gorgeous! On the lips, I used Revlon’s Natural Beauty lip balm with SPF 15 in Neutral Pink. On the eyes, BB shimmer wash eyeshadow in Beige and Matte shadow in Taupe. MAC Dipdown Gel liner and black mascara.

WORST: Using Palladio’s waterproof eyeliner on the inside rims of my eyes. Ouch! I ended up with red, itchy eyes after about 10 minutes. I must be allergic to it. I couldn’t wash the liner off until after a meeting at work. What a mess. Also, I used Cargo’s reverse lip liner to keep gloss from traveling. It looked very strange…not great.

Best: Purchasing the Too Faced Natural Eye kit! It’s such a good deal for the price and I love all the shades. Even the glitter-infused one ♥ OH! And scoring some nail polish at an old beauty supply store for next to nothing 🙂

Worst: Not really related to a product, but I’ve been breaking out like mad on my forehead and chin. #1 reason why I HATE summer =/

Best: Digging out my PosieTint out of my ever growing blush stash. Turns out I still love it. 🙂

Worst: Trying to make my 226 work. I really can’t make it work Karen! Any tips?

You can do it! What are you going for? Are you lining your eyes or filling in your brows?

    Hi Karen,

The 226 crease brush, not 266. Whenever I use it my crease colour gets so blotchy. 🙁

      Hi Arianne,

LOL, oops, my bad! Hmm… have you tried using just the tippy tip of the brush? I find that, along with a very light touch, helps. If you have the 217 you might want to give that a go as a crease brush. I use it all the time, and it’s awesome.

Best: Did my eyes with Urban Decay “X” and MAC Brownboarder eyeliner this weekend…looked nice I thought. Simple, but considering I was sitting watching little league, I thought it was the right touch.

Worst: Ugh! Huge zit front and center. Geez…I am on track to one day being a senior citizen still buying Clearasil! I think this is a lifelong problem for me.

Best: I did a deep blue smokey eye with my Kat von D Beethoven palette and the perfect dark pink lip with MAC Hang Up and LM Sugar Plum on top for a party Saturday night. SO said I was the hottest girl there. 😀

Worst: Hm.. last Tuesday I cried and totally melted/uncurled/crimped my eyelashes dabbing at my eyes with a tissue. Didn’t have time to fix up before going to work… ick!
