What’s Your Current Makeup Routine for Hot Summer Days?

June 21st, 2022 by Karen 11 Comments

My friend, happy first day of summer. It’s a hot one out here in Northern California today — supposed to hit 101 degrees Fahrenheit! Early this morning, first thing, since it was already plenty warm, I let Connor run through the lawn sprinklers. I would’ve joined her except I had already done my hair and makeup for the day, LOL!

Yup, I’ve been trying lately to do a little something-something with makeup, even when it’s hot. I’ve been on a roll recently with le face paint, and I don’t want to lose my momentum.

Here’s what I’ve been doing lately

  • Base: I start by blending a sheer, semi-matte foundation on my cheeks and nose, around my mouth and on my forehead. I pat a sheer concealer underneath my eyes and set it with the tiniest amount of powder. Then, I take a skunk brush, and I run it gently across everything to blend it all together.
  • Blush: Next, I add some color to my cheeks. I layer a coral cream blush with warm golden bronzer, and then I blend them together with my fingers. To set the cream blush/bronzer combo, I load a blush brush with a warm golden bronzer and dust it lightly across my cheeks, nose and along the edge of my face.
  • Eyes and lips:For my eyes, I keep it simple: brow pencil, mascara, eyeliner on the waterline and a pat of bronze glitter shadow on my lids. To wrap it all up, I layer a lip balm with sunscreen a pinkish nude lipstick.

And here are the products in heavy rotation!

  • Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation in 50 Beige
  • Hourglass Veil Retouching Fluid in Sand
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Golden
  • Chanel Les Beiges Cream Blush in No. 20 and No. 22
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Give Me Sun
  • Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Brown
  • Anastasia Clear Brow Gel
  • Ilia Gel Liner in Dusk
  • Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow in Ray
  • MAC Extended Play Perm Me Up Lash
  • Sun Bum Lip Blam SPF 30
  • MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick

How about you? What’s your current makeup routine for hot summer days?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

My smartaxx response is I’ll let you know once I have a hot summer day. It was a high of 52 in Maine over the weekend and with the wind it felt like the 40’s.
Today, is better, 70 and sunny.

I do appreciate all the product deets. I’m trying to make more of an effort with my appearance.

      70 degrees is purrrrr-fect!

If you can find a match, I recommend the Chanel foundation 100%!

Went to The City today to see the Obama portraits at the De Young. It was even hot in the city. Even hotter down this way on the peninsula. 101, ugh. I hate summer. I need new summer clothes that I don’t sweat like a ____ in.
Makeup for the day? The lightly tinted, fluid sunscreen I got in Japan by Shiseido. I really wish the US version was the same. This one has a tint that isn’t too dark for my super fair skin, blurs my pores and damps down the redness in my skin. Sigh.

Oh, I’ve been wanting to see that exhibit! How was it? Was it crowded? SF used to only get hot in late September/early October. 🙁

The exhibit just opened. The tickets are timed. It was moderately crowded, but everyone was extremely polite.
I definitely want to go back and see them again. Maybe try to get tickets for when the museum opens.
I used to live in the inner Richmond and can remember wearing a jacket all summer long, except for the one week heat wave in Sept or Oct. Sigh. When I first moved down the peninsula to be with Dear Husband over 30 years ago, our first house did not have air conditioning and it didn’t need it. Just as it was getting pretty warm the fog would start rolling in and I would just open the windows on opposite sides of the house for a cross breeze. The marine layer doesn’t reach down this far anymore. Now I can’t imagine living without AC.

On really hot/humid days I use Honua Malu spf30 sunscreen followed by a few drops of MAC studio radiance face and body in W0, NARS liquid blush, a mix of Orgasm with Dolce Vita. Lancome Defincials mascara and a sheer coat of ILIA United (a copper pearl) from the Warm Nude Palette. Lips are GXVE (Gwen Stefani’s new line) Original Me matte lip color in Tragic Me (beige peachy neutral)

That’s pretty much been my go to the last year or so too! Lately I’ve been using a primer with SPF from Milani whether or not I wear makeup and I really like it. Light on the setting powder but lots of setting spray! 🤗

Ooh, thank you for the reminder. I need to get back into the setting spray habit!

La Roche Posay’s tinted mineral sunscreen (the liquidy one with the shaker ball in the bottle) is a very good match for my skin. I add some concealer and set with a light dust of a powder foundation. Add Elf’s Wow Brow, waterproof mascara, and a lip stain or tinted lip balm and I’m good to go.

I focus on my eye makeup – Satin taupe, liner and mascara. Then I do concealer underneath my eyes and sometimes around the nose, cream blush and sometimes a lip. A little bit of powder to set that in the T-Zone and I am done.
