MAC Starflash Goes Back to School: A Purple and Gold Eye

August 18th, 2008 by Karen 23 Comments

Hey, hey, girlies! Can you believe August is almost over?

For some of you, that means heading back to school. In the comments on a previous post, reader Abigail said she was looking for a new look for school and wanted to use purple. I’m a big fan of purple and reached for Top Hat, a shimmery purple shade from MAC’s recent Starflash release, for this face of the day.

Abigail, I hope it gives you some ideas. 🙂

Back in school, I struggled to get to class on time. I was that girl always chasing down the bus. “Wait! Wait for me!”

I shot for quick and easy with this purple and gold look to help other students who suffer from the same affliction.

To complement the eyes, I went with plum cheeks and lips. I used MAC Beauty Powder Blush in Secret Blush on my cheeks and MAC Star Nova Lustreglass on the lips.

Eye Products I Used

Benefit Birthday Suit Creaseless Cream Shadow
MAC Woodwinked Eye Shadow
MAC Top Hat Eye Shadow
MAC Graphblack Technakohl LIner
MAC Powersurge Eye Kohl
MAC Prep + Primer Lash
MAC Zoomblack Zoomlash Mascara

Step by Step

1. First, I covered the entire eye with a layer of Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit.

2. Then, I dusted MAC Woodwinked eye shadow into the crease.

3. I swept MAC Top Hat Eye Shadow onto the lid area, just barely into the crease and along the lower lash line to softly define the eye.

4. When I’m in a hurry (late for work, yo!), I don’t always have the time or patience for eyeliner along my upper and lower lash lines. Sometimes, I’ll apply liner to both water lines and leave it at that. I think it’s tougher to spot uneven lines on the water lines because of their location. They’re partially obscured when the eyes are closed. Uneven lash lines, on the other hand, really stand out. For the upper water line, I applied Graphblack Technakohl Liner.

5. Next, I added Powersurge Eye Kohl on the lower water line.

6. To finish up, I curled my lashes, applied two coats of MAC Prep + Prime Lash lash primer, followed by two layers of MAC Zoomlash mascara.

Finito! Time to hit the books!

Well, I’m off for a short run ’round my neighborhood (gotta work on my fitness this week). After that, I’ll be back in front of le computer for a couple more hours of work until The Hills airs. What do you have lined up for tonight?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Love this Karen! The only Starflash shadow I have is Smoke & Diamonds, since I’ve restricted myself to a super-strict budget =X I’m going to break it out tomorrow for the first time, plus I’m planning on giving one away too!

How is it that you look fantastic in any and all shades of eyeshadow?

I’m a total Lancome person and Color du Jour is a totally pretty purply combo as well. One of my fave purples is Provence. So sheer… so pretty.

I’ve actually never put eyeliner on my upper water line. Any tips as to how to do this?

The purple is so pretty! I never wore make-up in high school though as we weren’t allowed to.

this is the reason why i decided to get the Shadowy Lady palette – I want to use more purple/violet shades. I have Dreamcatcher and Mink and Sable Star Flash Shadows – I love the texture!

What did you think of the ep? I am sorta shocked at the way Lo acted during the last scene!

    Hi Jen,

Aww, thanks! Um, I have to admit to having trubs with greys and yellows. I find those shades very challenging!

I have Smoke & Diamonds, too. I still haven’t quite figured it out yet… I feel like it’s too grey on my skin!

    Hi Jenna,

I find that pencils that I don’t have to sharpen work really well for me, like MAC Technakohl and Lancome Le Stylo. Basically I just run the pencil back and forth gently on the inner rim, trying to get as much color packed on closest to the root of the lashes. It takes a few back and forth swipe. I’ve found that it also helps to tilt my head back so I can really see the area I want to line, too.

    Hi Karen B.,

I didn’t get to wear makeup in middle school, but I was allowed to in high school. For some odd reason, though, my mom didn’t let me wear mascara… maybe that’s the root of my lash obsession now, LOL!

Drama for yo momma! First of all, if I was dating a guy and he acted the same way Spencer did with Heidi’s sister, he would be outtie! What a loser.
What a showdown between Lo and Audrina. I used to like Lo but now I think she is sort of creepy.

I am too obsessed with this show.
