Sundays with Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Vol. 60

November 1st, 2009 by Karen 12 Comments

I need your help, ladies! This afternoon I sent Tabs to the grocery store to pick up some macaroni and cheese (I had a craving), but he hasn’t come home. I think he might be lost. Can you help him find his way home?

Please use the map below to help T-Money find his way home. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Are you ready for the new week, chicas? I think I already have the Monday blues. I’ve been trying to chase ’em away with leftover Halloween candy, but it’s not working… Maybe I just need one more Snickers. 🙂

Right now I’m eating canned chili over rice and downloading Adventureland in iTunes. What are you up to tonight?

Blinc Eyebrow Mousse: Help for Overplucked Brows

November 1st, 2009 by Karen 8 Comments

MBB guest post!Today UK-based bridal makeup artist Rochelle O’brien tells us what we should know about Blinc Eyebrow Mousse.

Blinc Inc Eyebrow Mousse

Fountain of Youthful Colour Eyebrow Mousse, the newest edition to Blinc’s range of bestselling products, is designed to give fullness and colour to sparse brows. As well as having a long lasting colour formula, it also has anti-ageing properties to benefit the skin beneath your brows, too.

I love that all Blinc products come in cute little tins — they appeal to the packaging geek in me — and their eyebrow mousse is no different.

The applicator looks like a regular mascara wand, and the information leaflet explains that you to start by brushing the wand through your brows to build up the colour before using the tip of the wand to add fullness where you need it.

Now, my brows have never been the same since I plucked them all out back in the late ’80s, and it would take a lot to drag me away from my trusty Clinique brow pencil that I use daily; however, after trying Blinc’s brow mousse, I could well be converted.

Thanks for your help, BCA 2009

Ladies, just wanted to quickly say thanks for your help making October 2009 a good month in the fight against breast cancer. With your help, our combined donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure was $500 this year ($250 more than last year).

Pat yourselves on the back. 🙂

What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

November 1st, 2009 by Karen 30 Comments

MY BEST:

With the move, I fell off the cardio wagon about a month ago, but I finally started exercising again this week. I think I already notice a difference. I’m sleeping better, my skin looks a little clearer, and I have more energy throughout the day. Yay for endorphins!

MY WORST:

Trying to make Lippmann Collection’s Funky Chunky nail lacquer look pretty. Seriously, what do you do with something that looks like glittery tar on your nails? Not a lot of options…

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. How was your Halloween? Did you OD on candy (damn snickers)? We got just a handful of trick or treaters and were about ready to put on jammies when the neighbors invited us to an impromptu block party next door. They were all nice people (had a fire pit going, beer, ice cream, good convo). It was a lot of fun. 🙂

Floating Pumpkins

October 31st, 2009 by Karen 11 Comments

Earlier today I went to downtown San Rafael to grab lunch. Kids were trick or treating at the stores on Fourth Street. It blows my mind that kids trick or treat at malls in the middle of the day; all my Halloween memories are of trick or treating with my dad at night around our neighborhood.

Boo! I like these ghosts. They’re friendly, unlike the one from Paranormal Activity.

The EcoTools Cleansing Sponge: A Poor Girl’s Clarisonic

October 31st, 2009 by Karen 17 Comments

MBB guest post! We’ve been put on notice tonight — theNotice, that is. The delightful Rae of theNotice blog shares one of her favorite drugstore beauty products, the EcoTools Cleansing Sponge.

Ecotools cleansing pad A

When Karen asked if I would do a guest post for Makeup and Beauty Blog, I didn’t know where to start (I rarely do). I asked her for direction, and she suggested drugstore beauty.

“Hm!” I thought. “I’ll have so much to talk about!”

But I thought. And I thought. And I blew the house down.

Well, no, not really. But I did come to realize that less of my makeup stash comes from drugstores than I previously thought.

But this is actually great news for you (no, really, it is). It basically means that if I’ve kept a drugstore item, it’s a darned good one.

Take these EcoTools Cleansing Sponges ($9 for a pack of 12), for instance. They’re one of my drugstore holy grails.

Ah, the joys of being easily amused…

I’ve been scarfing down candy and singing a Halloween version of Joan Jett’s I Love Rock ‘n Roll while I do some chores around the house, but in my version the song goes, “I love candy corn!” candycorn
