Going the Distance with the MAC Styledriven Pro Longwear Eye Shadows

September 13th, 2011 by Karen 46 Comments

Pigment. Like. Whoa.

I’m serious. These new MAC Pro Longwear Eye Shadows ($20 U.S./$24 CDN each) from the MAC Styledriven collection, like the Pro Longwear lip products we looked at last week, are built to throw down.

With potent pigments, a downy soft texture and an easy-to-blend formula, these powder eyeshadows look and feel to me like muscled up MAC permanent shadows in the Veluxe Pearl finish (picture Woodwinked but even cooler).

I’ve been bouncing between six of the 16 colors from the line, and I’m still no closer to picking a favorite…

I love the lack of fallout and how long the colors stay true without fading (all day long), but for $20, I’d expect no less. Matter of fact, I’m a little bummed about the minor creasing I detect after about 12 hours of wear. It’s minor, to be sure, but considering the price, it shouldn’t be an issue at all.

For what it’s worth, these do contain far more product than MAC’s permanent line pans (3.4 grams vs. 1.5). That makes the higher price a little easier to bear.

Even with some minor creasing, I can’t help but covet the other colors in the line.

Dayum, MAC! You hit it out of the park with the Styledriven collection. Excellent work.

PRICE: $20 U.S./$24 CDN each
AVAILABILITY: Coming September 22 to North American MAC counters and stores; internationally some time this month

Dang, I’m not liking the price at all :/ But thru the night sure looks pretty!

About Tara…am I horrible for wanting her to stay dead? I really hope they don’t make her into a vampire or something like that >_> Also, Sookie’s totally going to bone Alcide next season 😛

The price kinda hurts, but you do get quite a bit more product. The pan is big!

Oh, I bet you’re not the only one who feels that way. They’ve REALLY changed her character. Remember what an @ss kicker she was in the first episode? Now that’s the Tara I wanna see. I wonder if what happened at the end will prompt her to finally open her dress shop, LOL.

I’m so disappointed TB left me hanging! The books never leave me hanging, I can’t stand it! I was so surprised to see Tara get shot. Maybe sookie will do some sort of fairy thing and bring her back without realizing it. Who knows. I keep hearing how the producers are straying away from the books. Wish they wouldn’t, however I’m really excited to see what they’ll come up with next year. (just stop leaving me in suspense!!)

These shadows look great but I wish MAC would have brought back some of the originals ie dalliance.

The season finale seemed more rushed than last year’s. I can’t believe I have to wait until June 2012! Ugh, waiting sucks lol. Tara’s character seems too fragile now but I don’t want to be killed off completely, someone needs to be human in that town. I was so upset to see Jesus gone, Lafayette deserved a good bf. And what about the crazy Christian guy turned vamp?!?!? Not to mention Russell’s back, woot woot!

Okay, I could seriously blab on about TB. G’night.

I heard that these eyeshadows will be limited edition, while the rest of the products in this collection will be permanent. If these eyeshadows turn out to be permanent, then I hope MAC will release an empty palette to hold these bigger size eyeshadows. =)

I think they are the same size as blushes so they will fit in the blush pallets MAC already makes if you depot them yourself. 🙂

Oh my god, KAREN. Everything about this entire post is gorgeous! What an amazing eye look – I wasn’t sure if I was going to get all excited for this collection, but I think you’ve just secured a “yes!” out of me 😛

;asdklfjgh and TRUE BLOOD. I cannot deal with True Blood right now! I’m just a flailing pile of emotions when I try to go over the ep in my head; it’s ridiculous and completely incomprehensible. Ahhh!

I think this collection is the bomb! I love the shades! And they sound perfect, except for the minor creasing. But everything else makes it so totally worth it. Gosh I need more moolah for this!

Is the minor creasing with your trusty Nars eyeshadow base, or without? With would be a shame but acceptable, without would be kinda impressive for 12 hours of wear

On another note, I know you’re pretty stoked about Cindy Sherman and the Mac fall collection, which is sooo cool! I just heard (and I guess I’m a little late hearing about it)
that photographer David LaChapelle will be shooting the promo images for Viva Glam 2012 with Nikki Minaj and Ricky Martin. I saw a LaChapelle exhibition when I was in Paris and I was totally blown away, so now im super jittery excited about him being he photographer. I can’t wait for 2012!!!

These look so pretty!!! I will definitely get some.

I honestly did not see the end coming AT ALL!!! Once Jesus and Marnie died i thought that was it. I was so shocked at the end!! I don’t think Tara will die. Bill and Eric were feeding on Sookie and i think they’ll come in and try to save tara, however, her brains were blown out so i’m not sure how they would save her but i think they’ll try anyway. Also, i can’t wait for some ALCIDE action!!! I like Bill and Eric, but i much prefer ALCIDE!!!

That’s a fabulous eye look! I love Hot Paprika, but don’t think it would be too hot on me. I must find out who can wear red shadows! 🙂

Lots of action on TB for sure. How fabulous was Pam? I was laughing during her rant (stupid Sookie and her stupid name). Do you think we’ll see a return of Russell next season? I can’t think of anyone else who’d been buried at one of Alcide’s construction sites, but you never know. And I know I keep saying this, but I’m so glad that sarcastic Eric is back. On a Tara note, I was just starting to like her again in the last few eps. Some miracle will save her, no doubt. 🙂

I hate it when companies do this(its why I didn’t but wonder woman) I’ll take the normal size and normal price please. I never hit pan as it is. I’d rather have the extra $6 to put towards something else thank you. Plus I depot all my eyeshadows anyway, this will take up extra room in my palette and if I don’t depot it its extra bulky when I carry it around.

Oh True Blood. Jesus… sad face. Poor Lafayette. I really hope Tara dies and doesn’t come back. I don’t think she adds much to the show. I felt like I needed more to happen between Sookie, Eric & Bill.

    Okay Karen,
the first half of the finale was kinda like YAWN for me. Then it really picked up! I’m so excited Steve Newlin and Russell Edgington are back, I really loved them as bad guys.
Sad Tara is gone ( Poor Lafayette!) but the writers kinda put her in a corner, she has had it pretty tough for the past few seasons.
Sad about Sookie and Eric, I would have liked to see their relationship extend a little longer, particularly with the new good/bad Eric mix in there.
Will have to read the books until the new season starts!
